  • I had no idea this would still be helping people after all these years! Yes, a common problem with many Nissan vehicles.
    I finally grouped all my videos of figuring out the problem and showing the fix into a PLAYLIST!. Nissan has probably made MILLION$ taking panels off jammed doors and needlessly replacing door locks!
    The fix is simple and it's right here! A paper clip, some basic tools, WD40.... no need to involve Nissan or your wallet!
    I still have this Xterra in 2019! Making those springs stronger has worked all these years!

    It worked! Thanks a million times over for posting this!
    For those still struggling, try building shaping and practicing with your tool on the non-stuck door while looking through the access port, then once you have it you can try it blind on the stuck door.

    Thanks for the tip, my 2006 xtera recently had exact same problem with rear door , had my mechanic take a look, he said he'd probably have to remove the inner door locked panel and would no be an easy fix, came across your video by chance , a coat hanger and a little WD40 and wear back in biz , again Thanks for the tip 👍👍

      I have a 1997 Pathfinder, but this solution didn't work. It seems like a different mechanism. Can you explain how you made it work? Thanks.

    I'm glad you got the door open! You have a very good idea there about taking off those grommets and spraying WD40 in there! It would help if folks did that BEFORE the lock starts jamming, but nobody looks for this till the door won't open!

      I just did that. I used the unscented Pb' Blaster and worked the handle. That slow returning lever started snapping back into place immediately. Problem Solved! Thank you sir.

    I fixed the door by holding the open latch open, locking and unlocking, then doing the reverse. After trying various combinations and then trying to open, the door was open in less than 30 seconds! I think the problem developed because I had a dying battery, which did not have enough power to fully unlock the door, so it was half engaged. Thanks for explaining and showing how this mechanism works.

    Thank you so much for posting this video. I have a Nissan Pathfinder with the same style doors and door handles on the side. I have had issues with both back doors jamming continueously. Really a pain to deal with when both doors are jammed shut and I have a toddler. Your video was very easy to follow. Appreciate it so much for sharing how to do this. Thanks again! Aloha!

      I never thought of that. It only seems to happen to the rear doors. I'm sure Nissan has changed thousands and thousands of door mechanisms on various models. I show the simple free fix!

    Spraying brake clean in helped free it up for me. It's also work noting that under the exterior handle is a little cover that pops off and makes it really is to get in from the outside.

    Hey Jemal thanks for the info but I tried tour way and I could not get the latch to go back so I opened the door handle where you said to stick the wire in and sprayed wd40 in there and sprayed it pretty good, waited a few minutes hit the power lock and it opened right up then i took the grommet off and sprayed pretty f\good in there and did it on the other door as well since it will happen there to Thanks for the info

    I am having rear door problems like this on my nissan xterra. Apparently there is that cable that runs to the actuator. I am wondering if the cable is binding in the cable housing like a throttle cable of an atv or motorcycle. At least I can begin to understand how to unlock the door manually and then take it to the next level and cure the problem. Thanks

    • @JemalCRM
      @JemalCRM  5 років тому +2

      The cable can't move around or twist so should not be subject to binding. Rather, the return spring gets tired and the mechanism gums up over time and needs a stronger spring. if you watch all the videos in the playlist, I show two ways to make the spring stronger!
      The hardest thing for folks to understand is that the door lock itself works just fine! But no lock will open if someone is holding the handle in the open position. That is exactly what happens when the cable does not retract. The lock "thinks" that someone is holding the handle!
      My trick with the paper clip pushes the cable back so the lock can work like it should! Good luck!

    I have a Nissan pathfinder 92 with same problem.. Would this be the same trick for mine 🤞😂

  • @HairyBlackBeard
    @HairyBlackBeard 5 років тому

    Do you think preemptively spraying an all weather lubricant on that will help prevent this or is it all about the spring?

    • @JemalCRM
      @JemalCRM  5 років тому

      It certainly can't hurt! I'd say it depends on your environment. If the car is constantly on dirt roads in a muggy climate, it's more likely the spring will get tired!
      You can see other comments about WD40 working just fine. It did for me too, at first! But we do go off-road, so eventually I had to strengthen both door springs, and 5 years later it's still working just fine....

  • @dantsa671

    Will this technique work for front doors?

    • @JemalCRM
      @JemalCRM  4 роки тому

      I don't think the front doors use the same type of locks, and you can always unlock at least one front door with a key! Remember, this won't get you into a locked car! Just gets you around a stuck lock, you still have to unlock it the normal way(s).

      Note driver side back door

    • @JemalCRM
      @JemalCRM  5 років тому

      If it opens from the inside, you have a different issue! The child lock PREVENTS opening from the inside.... I explain it well in another video. Try tapping with a rubber mallet around the outside door handle while you operate the lock MANUALY (thru open window). The power locks do click, but the stuck one does NOT unlock until you can get that cable to retract! Watch all these videos... it's how I figured it out!

      @@JemalCRM I have the exact same problem as Sonnier1972! the rear door on my 2006 Nissan R51 Pathfinder (Australian) behind the driver is having difficulty opening from the outside after the car had been locked using the central locking. I have to reach in and open from the inside evertime I lock the car. If the car hasnt been locked, the door will open from the outside without a problem. Then... I tried to fix it, I had the interior panel removed, was trying different things, and stupidly turned the child lock on. Now I can't open it at all. I still have the interior skin off though. Please please help!!

    • @JemalCRM
      @JemalCRM  5 років тому

      Part of the mystery is that if you DON'T TRY the outside door handle while the car is locked, it works normally! Once you TRY the outside handle with the door locked, the cable does not retract fully and the lock jams. It is as though someone is pulling on the door handle as you try to unlock it!

    • @dantevanniekerk

      @@JemalCRM If your child lock is on; take a wire, bend it and push it in between the door panels from the inside. Check/ test the shape and length of the wire with the other door to see what would be the best. Then push/ disengage the child lock and open your door with the inside handle...
