Congrats Andy. I was the 3:30 pacer. The course measured long for me too. I was a minute in the bank at mile 24, then suddenly lost it all in the next mile, despite my split being consistent. You’ll get there.
Nice one Alex! I was desperately trying to catch you but I just couldn't. I've heard about the long mile! Must have been a nightmare to pace! Well done mate 👏🏻
You did great mate. Well done. The big thing in my opinion for you is to start believing that you can run a 3:15 or even better. You have the dedication and the base.
Well done Andy! I ran 26.74km (Strava). I hope they amend everyone’s official times so they can be used to enter all marathons not just London. I believe Manchester, Brighton and Belfast have all done this one year or another.
Great in-depth deeply honest race review, looking forward to seeing the RTTS, and the 5km series. Keep up the good work, this is going to be the year of “its on andy”
After over a year off running I've lost all the fitness, but hopefully I'll get it back soon (apparently it's easier once you've had it) and going to sign up for an Autumn marathon I think!
Well done Andy. Huge PB is something to be really proud of. I came in at 3:28:55 on chip time, which was under my primary goal of sub 3:30. But the 'extra' lap-of-honour they decided to include scuppered my other goal of 3:24 - well, that and losing two minutes trying to relace my shoes at 23 mile. lol. Garmin measured 26.55 mile for me. Not amending my PB though as it doesn't affect me. I did hear the quite a few of the sub 3 hr group missed out - that is a major milestone. I don't trust pacers after the 4hr pacer at the Exeter Marathon 2022 just legged it at mile 22 and left everyone - think he finished in 3.55! Agree with the bobbing & weaving through the other race stragglers. Last year there was none of that, no extra loop etc, Good luck with Valencia.
I'm doing Valencia too and hoping to go sub 3:30. Started my strength training since Feb and it has helped me tons on my running and cleaned up my diet. Feel lighter and faster. Hope to see you there, IT'S ON ANDY!
You're not far away Andy. I'm doing Valencia this year, too, with the same goal as yourself. I ran it last year in 3.46. The first 4k or so is very congested and will slow your pace down but that may help in the long run. I think finding affordable accommodation will be just as tough as running the Marathon! 😂
I knew it was long compared to last year. It was all after 24 miles but luckily I got the time I wanted by 15 seconds. I’m sure they can do something with the times to adjust them.
Wauw Andy very many congratulations from me. What a race and You sit with your medal proud and telling of your lifes best long run. I understand you are proud ANdy. Congrats. Inga Dk.
I think that if you run @ 5mins km x 15k, 20k, 25k, 30k and in between each week run at your easy pace 17k, 22k, 27k plus your weekly sessions you'll comfortably achieve 3.30. We don't dedicate enough of our longer runs at marathon pace. Enjoying your journey & keep up the great work!
Awesome work mate and really useful recap for people preparing for any marathon, let alone doing Newport and it's own quirks. That has you as a sub-3:35 marathoner in my book! I don't get on with High5 or SIS gels so I use KMC if you've tried them? I always have the same problem as you with chewable food during a race and my mouth dries out instantly which just from a sensory perspective makes me Psychologically break down and feel hotter than I am. Hopefully see you at Two Castles! 💪🦖
How frustrating on the course being long. My first marathon was Brighton in 2021, it ran long. Always felt like an * on the amended time, through no fault of your own. Won’t matter for long though when you go sub 3:30 in Valencia!
I ran the marathon also Andy and I am very bothered about the course , I feel robbed of my time officially time and I would like my minutes deducted from my time as I am sure all the marathon runners would regardless whether they are applying to GFA 😊
I ran 3:43:50 which was a PB. I will be keeping it at that time and not amending it. Bit annoying, having trained relentlessly through the grim winter, only to be shafted by human error, but such is life. I would be a lot less understanding if it had cost me a milestone, but the difference between 3:43 and 3:42 is negligible. Credit to them for investigating and owning up
Mr Mcguire looks like you were actually quicker than you think...turns out Newport made a mistake with course and it was around 270 ish metres too long...apparently your chip time will be adjusted by around 80 secs...so congrats on a new new pb matey 🙂
I'd like the results to be proportionately amended for all. It's nice that I will now have GFA, but this won't amend my PB or power of 10, etc, so I can't claim the faster time unless it's official. I'll run more marathons, but i'm nearly 50 and Newport was near perfect conditions so may never go this quick again? I think we all have our reasons why all times should be amended?
i think you can go faster. did my first marathon two years ago at age 60 in just under 4 hours. I've managed to take 32 minutes off over the last three. I did Newport too and was gutted, but still PBed. Go again next year.
Congrats Andy. I was the 3:30 pacer. The course measured long for me too. I was a minute in the bank at mile 24, then suddenly lost it all in the next mile, despite my split being consistent. You’ll get there.

Edit: I posted that before the end of the video. So yeah, good thinking in my opinion.

Another MEGA congrats Andy! You're still awesome, Daisy is still adorable 🙂
Well done Andy, enjoyed your training series. I am doing Valencia too, hoping for a BQ there 🤞
Great in-depth deeply honest race review, looking forward to seeing the RTTS, and the 5km series.

You'll get back to it before you know. Give it time ❤️
Cracking race recap, we can't wait for what you achieve 💖💖
Thanks guys ❤️
Congrats Andy! We're about the same place in our marathon running journey, so really relatable and fun to see the progress!
exciting plans ! well done. looking forward to next episodes.

Omg the Exeter pacer 😲 What on earth was he thinking?! Well done mate!

Thanks mate - no I haven't heard of that fuel, will take a look. Yes mate - see you Sunday!!!!
I'm getting Floberg Vibes in your production ❤
Highest praise indeed!❤️😎
@itsonandy Sorry what I meant is... when I watch Floberg I get strong Andy-Vibes 😜😜

Your PB is ~82 seconds faster. Congrats!

Great race and review. Can I ask, what is that Race Analysis view you have? I like the view, (data analyst by day over here haha).
I think this was the desktop strava view, and I also referenced the mobile app and also Garmin!

Same here. I'd feel a bit strange changing the time anyway.
Get on Andy! I wanna see you get that sub 1.30 half as well
That's on the agenda for 2024 😎
Last year’s route was better. Went through small villages which had more support.
Yes I heard, I agree. I wonder if it was to do with road closures etc? I enjoyed it overall, but I don't think I'll be racing back there next year.
Great recap mate. Agree - if you're focussed on a time it's a decent track. To enjoy a marathon...erm...definitely a no!
Quite bland and a bit of a mess by the organisers looking back! Mcr different story for you next year 😎
👌👍
Mr Mcguire looks like you were actually quicker than you think...turns out Newport made a mistake with course and it was around 270 ish metres too long...apparently your chip time will be adjusted by around 80 secs...so congrats on a new new pb matey 🙂
Thanks Gary - crazy how it all became such a mess. No idea what happened and how the mistake got made, I'm still pleased with the way it went 😁

UK course measurers. You had one job, it’s even in your name 😂
😂😂😂
Can put you down for a 3:35 then haha!
