  • My hands-on walkaround of the Nikon P7700 compact travel zoom camera with a microphone input. It's a very nice quality camera, with good flexibility and features. It is hobbled solely by slow and sometimes very slow performance. Speed up the camera's reactions, and get rid of a few stupidly simple limitations, and you got a winner because the image quality and video quality is very good.

Great all round review. and the best one I have watched so far, regarding the Nikon Coolpix P7700 thank you.

Thanks. One thing I really like about the P7700 is the tilt-swivel screen. I've been a huge fan of that since my Canon S2 IS. That's the reason I own a GH2 now. But the overall sluggishness of the P7700 makes it bothersome to use.

REally helpful review. I know it's old now but I'm still getting to know mine.

Great review. I also read your review on the website.
I was wondering or can you share with us, in about 10:20 of your video,
you talked about "can not adjust exposure...", but can you adjust
focus manually during movie recording if you set focus mode to "MF"?

Curious...what kind of SD card was used for the test? I have read some other reviews that this camera's shot-to-shot sluggishness is mostly resolved (especially for JPEG's) when using a 95 MB/s UHSI card.

I have a question, when I record video with p7700, can i control the shutter speed, and set aperture and ISO in Auto mode ?
I only want to control the shutter speed when recording video, for videos look like film.

Hi! Just saw that you commented something some weeks ago. I´d like to know if you´d recommend this camera in 2022 (i´m thinking of buying one used really cheap). I like photography as a hobby (casual + some urban landscape or sky photos) and i would like an "advanced compact" to carry with me at all times in my backpack. Do you think it has better photo quality than a smartphone? Thank you!

I've been looking for the same. Yes, better than a smartphone in certain respects. Especially a real optical zoom, and easier to do fully manual controls, the swing out screen makes it way easier to take overhead and very low angle shots and still easily see the screen to get proper framing. Plus I like the retractable lens so it can be dropped into a little belt pouch with ease.

I don't own this camera or even scene one in the flesh. But I would be pretty confident to say that it is the exposure compensation. The Aperture adjustment will most likely be the the front dial as on Nikon DSLR's.

Nice review. I gave up on my Nikon P7100 - so so slow. Assume P7700 faster - Love Nikon DSLR's and have a few. For size, seems they could have included a viewfinder like Fuji X20. 10X is really a nice focal length for point and shoot. I think I favor the Sony RX100 for size and video.
I think the lens cap is a killer as well as size - So I would say Sony RX100 king followed by Lumix LX7 - Nikon P7700 - Fuji X20 - only due to that P7700 has nice IQ but size and looks so so

I have very recently bought a P7100 which suits me very well. It will do most of what my Sony A350 DSLR and assortment of lenses will cover. My bigger camera bag, a back pack is gettig fairly heavy to carry far now, I'm getting older! The Nikon fits in a pocket. The best camera to use is the one you are actually carrying isn't it ?

The GH2 is not a DSLR.

I see why these cameras are so cheap now, bummer that you can’t access the “manual” buttons while recording

I think the improvement in cell phone cameras has been the biggest reason people don't carry pocket-sized cameras any more.

It only counts down so you don't know how far into the recording you are? That has to be one of the dumbest things I have heard...
