According to Wikipedia, the inventor of this cool instrument has sadly passed away in 2013. I'm very fascinated with the sound of these peculiar instruments, I think they sound hauntingly beautiful!
Just found out about this via the podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz. Looked up images of it.....and yeah, now I either a) need one asap, or b) must make my own. This is too cool. As a fan of shoegaze music, and I write/record my own stuff....I _need_ this lol. I used to be able to get a very similar sound though....on my electric guitar, using a bow, and plenty of delay and reverb and chorus.
@rickdior Can you provide the name or any contact info you might have for the knockoff instrument you play in this video? Or for that matter, any other knockoff in current production that gets your vote? I've wanted a waterphone for decades, but I waited too long and now R. Waters has been gone for 10 years. :( I guess I'll have to settle for a knockoff. Thanks in advance!
They are no longer produced as Richard Waters is no longer with us. There are a few inferior models out there, such as the aquasonic version. You can see a comparison here ua-cam.com/video/8pTVLZX5Ns8/v-deo.htmlsi=6u8DyVX81Byy2YDL

First I heard one was the start of "Circles" by Joe Satriani, didn't find out what it was until about 20 years later.
I recognize this sound from the end of the Subnautica menu music ("Salutations")
I instantly think of Hannibal when I hear that waterphone.

What's the name of your band/music project? I love shoegaze! And did you ever get a waterphone?
Wow! Never knew about this instrument!
Such a cool sound to hear in The Matrix.
They should make more of em again
Hi
Unfortunately the creator, Mr. Waters, passed away many years ago and took his secrets with him.
@@rickdior I think Mr Waters should've left instructions on how to build these things.
@@RockStarOscarStern634 his son (or grandson?) still makes them. Music Inn Instruments in New York has them
When I hear these I think...Dirty Harry. Great soundtracks.
Yes!
Amazing!

Beautiful haunting sounds
Reminds me of the MC cave sounds.
