  • The 1st half of the January 17, 1982 NBC Sports broadcast of the Louisville Cardinals vs the Missouri Tigers contest at the Checkerdome in St. Louis, MO. The history books show that the final score had approximately the same deficit that was faced at intermission so hopefully the lack of being able to see the 2nd half action isn't too disappointing. Dick Enberg and Al McGuire were on the call.

A 42 year old game and the video/audio quality is fantastic!

And hopefully now, along with these other broadcasts, it will be preserved that way on here for all to enjoy in perpetuity.

I was not quite 10 when I watched this game with my Dad. At the time, the Cards home and road uniforms had black numbers. Technology at the time made it difficult to read the numbers on the red jerseys. For some reason they changed to white numbers for this game only in this season, but changed to white permanently in 82-83. I wish they’d revert to the black numbers now. They were the best looking uniforms we ever had.

Dick Enberg and the coach Al Mcquire…you knew it was big if they were there. This was the first season after cbs took over the ncaa tournament from nbc

That Louisville team had some great players and more importantly, great people. Over the years, I'd encounter Lancaster Gordon, the McCrays or recent grads Tony Branch and the incomparable Darrell Griffith and they were always down to Earth, just like meeting pals.

Back when teams would play conference games on Saturday then come back the next day to play a big non-conference opponent.

You're right. In fact, Louisville played Virginia Tech and Virginia on back-to-back days the very next weekend. Louisville's schedules in the Crum era were brutal.

It was network TV that arranged or pressed for these weekend matchups. And on a court still cold from a hockey game the night before. Too much interference from the big money forces. That's far worse today.

@@brianarbenz1329 Also back then, unless they were on ESPN, teams didn't play nearly as many weeknight games as they do now.
