Common Pauraque in Costa Rica

- Ranging from Texas to South America, the common pauraque is a type of nightjar. Its beautiful call can be heard in the evenings in woodlands, farmlands, fields, and scrub. It exhibits an incredible camouflage, making it almost impossible to see until it takes flight. The female pauraque lays her eggs right on the ground or in the leaves, not bothering to make a nest.

I have seen Common pauraque myself in the wild in Texas. Fascinating birds!
i found 1 yesterday around 4 pm ish it kept flying and coming back the closer i get to it , it even flew over my head like about a feet and a half over my head
I was wondering what this bird was , I seen them a lot here in South Texas in a jogging trail and if it's night time you can walk right up to them , until you shine the light on them they fly off, I was getting them confused for the common nighthawk, but the sounds they make are the same one in this video so now I know. Beautiful birds
I thought it was a hare, as it moves too fast close to the ground.
What a cute little bird.
We have these in Georgia now, and it’s been driving me nuts trying to find out what it was, mow I know

Awesome video!!! Congrats!!!👍👏👏
what cuties...
I just spent some time in Costa Rica, we heard this bird at night and the neighbor (a local) told me these were the infamous Terciopelo (Fer de Lance) snake making these sounds. Good to know this wasn't a snake, scary. Really loud for a little bird! But a cool sound nonetheless. Ode to the gullible Gringo
Es el cuyeo?? Alguien puede decirme el nombre de esta ave, soy de Costa Rica. Gracias
