I run a '17 DD13/405hp in a dump truck/municipality fleet truck. A great engine, with plenty of power. Never had an issue with low power, but I can say from experience, if you have to idle the engine, shut it down (if possible). It's cheaper to replace a starter, than waste fuel (and wait for constant regenning). Can almost time the regen, to the hour (every Tuesday). I like the info & content of your channel, I 'scribed!

Maintenance is everything, filters, sensors, etc etc etc. I'm curious to know if there are any proven facts on longevity between using synthetic diesel engine oil, as opposed to standard diesel engine oil?

The fleets I service don't shut the engine down. Now they are not coast to coast trucks either. Such as idling all night with heat or ac while the driver sleeps. These are day cab trucks. I instructed them to not turn the tricks off while off loading simply due to failure to restart. Detroit's suck to put a starter on them and doing it on the road trip is extra crappy. 1 hour offload idle is not 10 hours idling while off log at a truck stop.
Then again, all the truck I service have never had internal failure. Few time injector cups leaked compression, but always had a POS for a driver when that problem happened. Oil sump tube seals get monitored by me when servicing. Recently found two truck with 9 psi hot oil at idle and the fool drivers never noticed. Major damage prevented by one little seal on the pressured side of the pick up tube.
Clue and don't give a damn drivers are the cause of major failure. Had a owner operator call me the other day to diagnose a Pete with a isx15. First thing I noticed was the filter still had the 6/20 sticker I put on it the last time I worked on it. Meth doesn't make better driver and I told the guy not to call me again.
Shane, thanks for sharing, and it is nice to hear techs that check maintenance for troubleshooting. We must all work together to increase the efficiency of the USA's supply chain. Drivers, techs, shippers, and receivers all share a high demand and workload during these times. 💪🏼🔧🚚
I like how everything is the POS driver's fault.. I understand not noticing a low oil pressure gage, but what is he supposed to do to keep injector cups from leaking compression???
Sometimes we are all humans and we make mistakes, even technicians..
@@larryhutchinson4271 Additionally, drivers just drive. A good majority of them don't pay attention to engines other than checking oil and coolant during pre and post trip.
I have a DD13 with a ultrashift plus, sometimes it comes out of gear while driving. The check engine light comes on but never last long enough to get code. Any recommendations?
Hi Adam I have a 2014 d13 I have no boost pressure and the gauge does not move on the dash board I can only get it up to 67 miles what could be the problem thanks in advance

Less than optimum duty cycles can increase cylinder scuffing with any diesel engine. Thanks for watching

@Trucker Ro from The N.O., It all depends on what we need in the build. If you suspect your engine needs an overhaul, I would recommend having the engine checked out and tested before overhaul. What problems are you having? 🔧👍🏼🎥🚚
@Ancormane, we do not recommend junkyard motors. Junkyard motors may have a history that will decrease longevity. A failed junkyard engine may only make matters worst due to rework.
