I was a owner of a low torque Yamaha 350 from 1985 to 1993, blue color, KRQ5525 reg.. The best bike experience i ever had on a twin carb, twin engine mean machine. The king on the road then. Regret give it off when I went abroad. But it is always fresh in my mind and heart. Thanks for this episode....bring back memories of my youth and fun I used to have with my bike...wow
Hey! I was the guy who bought KRQ5525 in 1993 from Thiruvalla. But I think it was an HT. I wish I could tell you the bike is still with me... but sadly, rising fuel costs and maintenance hassles forced me to sell it off after a couple of years. I was just a college student at the time. I recall sending the documents to the owner in the US (Colorado, I think) for their signature.

Efficency എന്നും ഒരു പ്രോബ്ലം ആയിരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ഒരുപാട് exhaust പുകയൊക്കെ പരത്തി നല്ല ഒന്നാന്തരം exhaust നോട്ടുമായി ചീറി പായുന്ന ഒരോർമ്മയാണെന്റെ മനസ്സിൽ. പിന്നെ ഇന്റർനെറ്റിന്റെ കാലത്തിൽ ഇതിനെ ചികയാൻപോയപ്പോൾ മുന്നിൽ double ഡിസ്ക് ബ്രേക്ക് ഉള്ള വണ്ടികൾ അമേരിക്കയിലെ റോഡ്കളിൽ നിരത്തി വച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. ഇപ്പോഴും അടങ്ങാത്ത ആവേശമാണ്. I owned the RD 350 from 1987 to about 1992 I think when I went for higher studies outside Kerala. I drove this bike predominantly in Trivandrum and what a fantastic bike it was then. The brakes by today's standard was definitely substandard but still better than the bikes available then. The HT version which I had gave me a mileage of around 12KM to 15KM I think. The 2T oil was actually poured into a separate tank under the seat and not as mentioned along with the petrol. It did have an oil pump and filter. Even the Trivandrum city police had this bike for their traffic Sub Inspectors at the time. I think this was to chase and catch the speeding youngsters. However, the cops being sane could not drive at the insane speeds the youngsters would drive. Eventually I think due to cost and other factors, cops moved to other bikes. Tuning this bike was a huge problem and not every one could do it. Even Yezdi came out with a rival the Yezdi 350. It was one ugly bike and not a patch on the Yamaha RD 350. Probably you can do a review of the Yezdi 350 if you can get hold of one. Cost, mileage, maintenance and a bike ahead of its time (at least in India) caused it to fail in the market.

I personally know 2 guys how've had major accidents and are deformed for life , but still searching for this bike as their family had sold it . If you are in Benagaluru , please meet Mr Nisar Khan . He is the best tuner of RD 350 in India . I have worked with him and his bikes does quarter mile in 10.5 seconds . Cheers to you strell for highlighting this legend . Very good video, was checking for this for some time. One point you might have missed is that RD350 and even the RX100 has a good 2T oil pump when it came out. In higher revs it needs more lubrication, so the pump was recommended. At this vintage, the pump might have become unreliable and the owner might be filling 2T from petrol stations. If the oil supply is disrupted then engine would seize for sure.
Yeah I agree with you Man. It was such a beautiful and powerful bike. I was born in 90 I still remember rajdhoot a.k.a Rd 350 back then. But it was discontinued and by then Yamaha's Rx 100 and Suzuki's samurai and Shogun. But this one was a killing machine and as you mentioned people were not having the technique and knowledge to handle this powerful machine. There was amazing technology back then.

Stroll, there is one mistake in your comments about oil, which I may point out here, the oil is not mixed with petrol but there is separate tank below the seat to fill the 2T oil and one can see the oil level through the oil level window on one side of the bike, thank you for your comments. I owned the same during 1988.
Ive ridden Ducati panigales, diavels and Suzuki hayabusas on all kinds of roads including empty expressways, but the scare that an RD350 put in my heart when i rode it back in the early 90s still makes me tremble.. it is not about the sheer power, it is more about the raw unpredictability and the lack of confidence in the brakes and general balance.. the only other bikes that genuinely scare me are the now discontinued triumph daytona 675R and the Suzuki GSXR1000 2015

Fuel ന്റെ കൂടെ ആണ് oil ഒഴിക്കണം എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞത് തെറ്റാണ്.... Oil tank side ൽ ഉണ്ട്.. RX 100 ൽ ലെ പോലെ... 90 സിൽ use ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്... പിന്നെ, പണ്ട് ഈ smoke വരുത്തി college ന്റെ front ലുടെ പോകുന്ന ഒരു feel ❤️❤️❤️
I closed 200 on my HT in many occasions, engine literarily goes to a silent mode and you can hear only the spinning chain noise. Also you should remember to consider the road conditions during 80's. At that time, if you are not a seasoned rider, RD will Definity turn into a death-machine.

Main drawback was the insufficient brakes. Originally, escorts had planed to introduce liquid cooled rd400 but shelved the plan and introduced an older model due to higher cost .
Sorry. But am confused with the round and square headlights? Most bikes when the rd350 was introduced had round headlights only. It was only later that square headlights came. Also round headlights didn't become a fad later unless it was a cruiser or something retro.
In USA it was introduced in 1973. Use 30ml 2T for a litre of petrol from a sealed bottle, you will not have the same experience of strell in traffic signal 😅

Very good video, was checking for this for some time. One point you might have missed is that RD350 and even the RX100 has a good 2T oil pump when it came out. In higher revs it needs more lubrication, so the pump was recommended. At this vintage, the pump might have become unreliable and the owner might be filling 2T from petrol stations. If the oil supply is disrupted then engine would seize for sure.

Yeah I agree with you Man. It was such a beautiful and powerful bike. I was born in 90 I still remember rajdhoot a.k.a Rd 350 back then. But it was discontinued and by then Yamaha's Rx 100 and Suzuki's samurai and Shogun. But this one was a killing machine and as you mentioned people were not having the technique and knowledge to handle this powerful machine. There was amazing technology back then.
Owned one during my days in Bangalore, typical 2 stroke with a peaky and narrow powerband. Was fun, and raised lots of eyebrows on the street.

Stroll, there is one mistake in your comments about oil, which I may point out here, the oil is not mixed with petrol but there is separate tank below the seat to fill the 2T oil and one can see the oil level through the oil level window on one side of the bike, thank you for your comments. I owned the same during 1988.

Ive ridden Ducati panigales, diavels and Suzuki hayabusas on all kinds of roads including empty expressways, but the scare that an RD350 put in my heart when i rode it back in the early 90s still makes me tremble.. it is not about the sheer power, it is more about the raw unpredictability and the lack of confidence in the brakes and general balance.. the only other bikes that genuinely scare me are the now discontinued triumph daytona 675R and the Suzuki GSXR1000 2015

I closed 200 on my HT in many occasions, engine literarily goes to a silent mode and you can hear only the spinning chain noise. Also you should remember to consider the road conditions during 80's. At that time, if you are not a seasoned rider, RD will Definity turn into a death-machine.

Main drawback was the insufficient brakes. Originally, escorts had planed to introduce liquid cooled rd400 but shelved the plan and introduced an older model due to higher cost .

Sorry. But am confused with the round and square headlights? Most bikes when the rd350 was introduced had round headlights only. It was only later that square headlights came. Also round headlights didn't become a fad later unless it was a cruiser or something retro.

In USA it was introduced in 1973. Use 30ml 2T for a litre of petrol from a sealed bottle, you will not have the same experience of strell in traffic signal 😅
