VK probably has more classical training and is therefore better in that context; Matt has probably had more experience playing live and composing original music with a variety of instruments with a bit of natural talent on his side (I believe he quit classical training early in his life).
As much as I like Muse... Mozart would've yawned and improvised a better version on the spot. Beethoven would've torn his hair out at the simple chord progression.
I agree. But in their day, it was about pushing compositional boundaries, not being simplistic. And if Beethoven did, on occasion, go for "simple", he made sure it was the kind unforgettable simple where every note felt like divine inspiration (think Für Elise), not a bunch of arpeggio chords on a generic progression. These guys were on another level.

Keep in mind that this is composed for a song, not just a composition. You can't compare both. Both are beautiful nonetheless.
