    With help from this video, I finished replacing the front flex pipe catalytic converter. My car sounds so much better and feels a little bit more powerful than before. This mechanic makes it look easy to replace but I found it pretty tough and time consuming to do because these bolts are so damaged and a complete pain in the @$$ to remove especially when the car is on jack stands with little room for me. I cut 3 bolts and drilled out 3 holes. The heating didn't really work for me. I drilled 3 holes and 1 hole had an awkward tough angle for my drill but I eventually got it off. I used a Milwaukee compact hacksaw for 1 stud (w/ spring) because my power tools were too large and I couldn't get a good angle. The reciprocating saw was great for me and preferred it over my Dewalt angle grinder. At the end of the day, I finished the job but I think this job was definitely tougher than I expected due to little room with the jack stands, seized damaged bolts and some awkward angles. Very satisfying when I finished it all.

    Take a deep socket that is smaller than the nut size it it supposed to be (if it’s supposed to be a 14mm then try a 13mm or 12mm deep socket) you will have to hammer it on so watch your fingers 😊
    Hammer it down until it’s all the way on *important keep pressure on it as you turn so it doesn’t slip off.
    When you get the nut off save for half a turn (when it’s almost all the way off) you can jerk the socket off and use your fingers to take it off the rest of the way, if not then you have to use a screwdriver to pop the nut out of your socket or just throw it hard on the concrete and sometimes that works.
    Watch a video if you need to but I promise this can work if you commit. Once you get the socket on the nut do not take it off until you can take the nut off. If you don’t keep pressure on the socket as you turn it can slip off and it will strip the nut worse and you may not get a second chance if it is too damaged. Good luck 🍀 ❤
    Long story short there is good metal under the rust. Hit a socket on there with a hammer. Probably wanna get new bolts afterwards even if you get the old ones off without cutting them

    Hey 1a auto, brakes plus says my car a 2016 Nissan altima needs a new catalytic converter it's got a p0420 code but they're also telling me that they recommend getting two new oxygen sensors as well as a tune up with the new converter. Is this true or are they trying to pull a fast one on me???

    We have a Nissan Rogue that starts up high idle and then lowers after like 2 seconds. The other day we were driving and the car lost acceleration in the middle of the highway. Pressing the gas only made it worse, it felt like the car was going to come to a complete stop. I was wondering if you had any ideas what this could be? No check engine light comes on. Every time we turn the engine on it starts really high and lowers back down after about 1-2 seconds. Any help is appreciated thanks.

    1 - Why is the flex pipe needed? My 98 Nissan Maxima had one of these before it rusted completely away It was actually a braided pipe. Can I replace it with a plain piece of pipe? No other vehicle I have ever owned has had one of these flex pipes.

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  7 років тому

      +andy soccerboy Thank you for checking us out. The P0420 code is a generic code which could indicate a oxygen sensor failure or catalytic converter. It is in most cases tough to identify the reason for this code without a special scanner to obtain the exact specifications to determine what part is faulty and throwing the system out of alignment. 1aauto.com

    • @1AAuto
      @1AAuto  7 років тому

      +David Orellana That is not an O2 sensor, it is a plug. A lot of times aftermarket companies build parts to fit multiple applications, so they probably have an additional hole for an O2 sensor if needed. You can simply plug them if you do not have an O2 sensor at that location. The pipe will typically come with the plug, so you do not need to purchase additional parts! www.1aauto.com/1A/direct-fit-catalytic-converter/Nissan/Altima/1ACCD00255?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&T6NodXCYs1Q

    My Sentra has been throwing P0455 for a year and the mechanic just told me that the flex pipe is cracked. (Does that make sense?)
