George Jones wrote this song, recorded this song and is the best singer on the planet and did not reach #1 while 3 other people did.How strange is that.

All to often Charley Pride is overlooked when it come to country greats, can't help but thik of my mom watching this because my parents had a "freebie list". My dad's list: Miss Kitty from Gun Smoke, and a female wresler whose name I have long since forgotten and Suzanne Somer, my mom's least-Pat O'Connor (a wrestler), Charley Pride and George Jones, I have come to realize that my parents were kinda pervie and we kids were kinda dumb, we had no clue what they were talking about when they talked about this list while watching wrestling, gun smoke, three's company and the old country music shows (i.e. heehaw, grand ol opry, Oorter Wagoner) that used to air so many years ago

Klunket, thank you for posting this stuff. I LOVE how you put in the category of education! Their needs to be a movement that takes Country back from the current (I'm sorry, I don't mean disrespect) idiots! These two guys are among the greats and if ONE kid picks up his guitar, forgets about whatever's coming out the the TV this week and tries to live up to these men, why that's a noble thing as far as I can see. Thank you.

You are the first one to comment on my decision to put many of these video's in the education section..lol. I had been waiting for someone to say something about that! It looks like you made this comment over a year ago... I am sorry but I must have missed it. I figured some of the young pups aspiring to be country artists could get an education from the masters of Country :-)

At the time that Jones recorded this song he was still a newer act, but Red Sovine and Webb Pierce were already well known (They recorded it as a duet) . Decca probably just promoted their version better and they got more radio play which is why they had a number one and Jones didn't. Had he recorded it just a few years later I'm certain that he could have effortlessly hit number one with it. But it isn't such a bad thing since Jones charted more hits than any one of them!!!!

Melba Montgomery released a song, No Charge, that was supposed to be a hit, but Tammy Wynette rushed her recording. Tammy hit number 1, but Melba was only 14, I believe. Songs chart based on popularity at the time and airplay. At one time, payola existed, which meant labels would pay radio stations to play a song, but not 2:11 disclose to the listening audience.
