The only thing that sucks about this album is that it was Randys last album. He was pure gold in the right era at the right time in rock n roll and in music period. Surely missed but NEVER forgotten. One of the worlds greatest guitarist to ever play with Ozzy, and was co founder of Quiet Riot!!
I always thought the same about the bass and drums but whenever I wanted to cover a ozzy tune. I usually got flack from drummer and bass. I think they're perfect compliment to the songs
Diary of a madman is the best album he ever put out .. Randy Rhodes and the whole band was awesome.... Bob daisley and Lee Kerslake... A great album the all the way through .. Blizzard of oz second best hands down ... Or you can reverse if you feel like it they are both masterpieces.. The 1st time I saw Ozzy was in 1983 on the bark the moon tour which was my 3rd favorite album by Ozzy... I went to 3 Ozzfest 98,99,00, And saw Black Sabbath at the palace of Auburn Hills with mishugga warming up
I saw the Bark @ the Moon tour as well, at the Spectrum in Philly. Motley Crüe opened up for them, supporting their Shout at the Devil album. I was 15 years old. I also saw Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio singing in 1981. Saw Dio again in 86.
The Outro solo on this one is spine chilling as all of Randy‘s are but it’s just something about this one. According to Max Norman, took only one take other than the overdubs obviously.. just incredible!! Randy was a true musical genius. When I play that outro solo on guitar or just listen to it for the millionth time, it’s STILL runs chills up my spine every time.
imagine if he had the time to work on this song that he wanted I think he said this song makes him cringe knowing he was unable to put the solos on it that he wanted
Ozzy Rocks And Rules Always. Saw Him In '86 With Metallica...On The Ultimate Sin Tour. It Was Killer. In My Opinion The Ultimate Sin Is An Underrated Record. Pick It Up If You Haven't Already. Saw Ozzy With The Original Black Sabbath Twice In The 2000's. Awesome Shows!!!
Agree 100% everything you said! Ultimate Sin is Awesome, also Jakes Guitar Playing Revealed a definite Heavier Metal RATT Guitar style, it makes sense as he was in RATT right before his Buddy Warren DeMartini got the Job when Jake left
I saw that show too which turned me onto Metallica. I was like ok now I get it. My first pit also. And Ozzy let them do 2 encores because they were so hot. Saw acdc fly on the wall right around that time also which remains one of the best shows I've ever seen. Diary started it all..!! And Randy made me want to play guitar.
Saw the same tour in Phoenix at the Coliseum in May of ‘86. And yeah, great fuckin night. I gave ‘The Ultimate Sin a few listens and didn’t find it that good. But I’ll give it another day in court.

Dimebag is nowhere near the conversation he was a B leaguer. Rhoads is so far above him in music theory and songwriting, come on. Ed was close to Randy these guys were a cut above eveyrone, but to put Rhoads and Dimebag in the same sentence is embarrassing
Um, fuck these 2 guys Randy and Dime. So similar playing, I hear dime each listen. 2 of the best ever!! Don't gimmie this music theory bullshit!! Do you feel it in your soul??! That's all I need to KNOW!!!! Rock n Roll baby
God, li love tthis song,, and listening to Randy's playing puts me in heaven. He always gives Ozzys songs something special and exciting.. And if the world hadn't lostt this special soul and he continued playing with Ozzy, I wonder what he would have contributed to Ozzy's future songs.
Ozzy hasn't ever had a slouch on guitar but Randy was a genius. The first two Ozzy albums are masterpieces. Bark at the Moon is great as well but Randy playing gives me goosebumps, even after growing up listening to this stuff.
Ozzy Osbourne has always been a favorite singer of mine. I'm in my early 50s n I've been listening to him since I was 11. No shit, I truly have n still listening,❤️❤️
Randy is a Guitar God, the little time we had him, look at the monstrous influence he has had on all guitarist since, just imagine what if we would have had Randy just a little longer.
Randy rhoads he knows he was the best still to this day no one can play like this tone on ozzys music. Best on every guitar 🎸 his own you can feel his soul in rock n roll.
@@Dave_Wight_The_Rock_Oracle Yes It's called a dummy solo. it's just there till the proper one is recorded. Unfortunately for Randy, he didn't have time to complete the track so the fake one was just left in.
the stuff he is playing near the end of Randy's scratch solo is ridiculous, and Lee....so tight. I think he took part of the bass from a song he wrote before wiht another band....
First time I heard this I’m like ok, pretty stock metal riff for Randy, then the song starts getting all borderline Beatlesy and I’m like ohhhhh…. to me DOM is an order of magnitude beyond BoO in terms of songcraft and composition and BoO was already brilliant in so many respects. But Randy was absolutely maniacal about practice, dedication, and improving his abilities, God only knows where this genius could of ended up had he not died so young. Metal’s Beethoven.
Rhoads never wrote a stock metal riff, if you listen to isolated guitar tracks, the guy was doing so many different things that you cannot hear it with the other musicians playing or singing over it. I thought Steal Away the Night was a nice catchy riff, then I heard the isolated track and it almost sounded like a different rhythm. Blizzard of ozz is a great album, but it is not Diary of a Madman, that is basically genius prog metal. Think about it you have a guitar player who was not even into metal, but he was able to figure out how it should sound to make it metal to match with ozzy's persona.
! Ozzy Man U produce N So many Tracks! Legend! I get so tired of knowing " I'm alone now ! nd no one to turn to " U help me nd many ways " Yes life gets hard when u lose every one u known even family but know matter what life throws at me im staying strong 🌟!
Ozzy was my hero growing up. Crazy as that sounds. Maybe that's why I spent 28 years in prison. I still rock Sabbath and his solo stuff and I am 62 year's old
This album takes me back to high school hearing this. (Even though I was only 8 years old when the song came out and it took until 1988 to jump on the crazy train as an Ozzy fan)
So I grew up with this enceradable alum.Of course way before diary of I loved ozzy.anyway I have seen randy roads two times I'll never forget. Jersey John.
Probably the standout bass performance from this record. Great stuff. Its hard to get noticed when you have Randy Rhoads to contend with, but Bob and Lee were a solid rhythm section. Its s travesty that their parts got cut in the reissues.
Imagine If Randy had the time to work on this solo, this is scratch solo I believe, the bass at the end of the solo is ridiculous, what a great rhythm section. If you do not own this album, you have failed yourself and society as a music listener.

Can't leave a comment on the rest of this album. Wtf. Great song.(Imagine if) they had a few months to fine tune this masterpiece... They recorded both of those first two albums in like a year. Randy had stated that he wished there was more time to compose solos for DoaM but he was content considering the circumstances. I like the sound/production of Blizzard but would rather it have the high dollar treatment that Diary received.
This album may mean more to me than any other album I've ever owned in 56 years.

True that saw John ozzy osboune twice did a speech on randy blew everyone’s mind
Undisputed brilliance
Couldn't have said that better..

It is a great album.
This whole album Diary of a madman in my opinion is the best solo album Ozzy has ever recorded, and I think every album has it's own unique sound.
Coolest drum intro of any Ozzy song…underrated, Mr. Kerslake.
surprised Frankie Banali did not try and take credit
Over the mountain is another great opening :)
The only thing that sucks about this album is that it was Randys last album. He was pure gold in the right era at the right time in rock n roll and in music period. Surely missed but NEVER forgotten. One of the worlds greatest guitarist to ever play with Ozzy, and was co founder of Quiet Riot!!
absolute one of the greatest to ever do it
The bass playing on this album is exceptional.
I was just thinking the exact same thing before seeing this comment
Rudy Sarzo!
Bob Daisley*
Great lyricist too @@cardo_theonly
Ozzy has had some great guitarists, but he has also has some great drummers.
Lee Kerslake was f-cking fantastic on the first two albums.
and great bassists too !! those bass lines on Tonight !!
I always thought the same about the bass and drums but whenever I wanted to cover a ozzy tune. I usually got flack from drummer and bass. I think they're perfect compliment to the songs
Randy was essentially a guitar god
God needed a lead player, with mad skillz and talents.....he took him March 19, 1982...sadly
I was lucky enough to see Randy Rhoades live. What an incredible guitarist 🎸. One of the best ever !!!
Awesome 😎 Bro
yep I saw him with quiet riot - my cousin played with him for a minute... said He was the kindest and lovable little man he ever knew... ;)
Me too. Even had a chat with him backstage.

Listening to Randy can still make you tear up.
So fucking amazing!!!
Every time I hear Randy Rhodes I can't help but hear... Dime bag Darrell.
It's uncanny!!

This song is just phenomenal, plus Randy has said that this was just a placeholder solo and he never got enough time to write a solo for this song
Was that the main solo or the outro solo?
You’re 100% correct.. it’s just a dummy solo but it’s still killer.. I just couldn’t imagine the real one...

Writhing and screaming the pain just won't go

Your image in his hands it's useless to try

But he's in no hurry
The pins and needles prick the skin of little dolls
No where to run, your fate is in his hands

I'm warning you, the worst is yet to come
The killer who, remains a mystery
I that believe in the stories of old, would never fight it
Legends and curses that play on your soul
Like something ignited
You never imagined such a fate could follow you (you never thought it was true)
And when it's your time I wonder how you'll do
Your kind of troubles running deeper than the sea
You broke the rules
You've been a fool
The little doll is you yeah
No where to run, your fate is in his hands
