Yes it's okay to be able to actually hear the bassist, modern metal bands take note
+Omair Sheikh listen to loner haha its almost louder than the guitar...sabbath rules
Marijan Barać Fathers of metal. Geezer is a fucking beast as of course is Iommi.
+Omair Sheikh
i think thats because black sabbath (unlike modern bands) have only 1 guitarist, so they have to add some "volume" to their sound. great song though
pold92
it has alot to do with the player itself, not just the volume
+Marijan Barać
I agree. Geezer is the 'rhythm' section of Sabbath, no need for a rhythm guitarist.
Most good metal bands don't have a rhythm guitarists, but have two leads instead, as in Maiden, Priest etc...
John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, is another good example of a one man rhythm section from a one guitarist band.
I don't think Sabbath (or Zepp) would sound the same with a rhythm guitarist.
If you consider Hard Rock, then someone like Malcolm young is definitely needed.
It is iconic how a band can write such a strong song more than 40 years after their debut.
Yes sure is.And love ozzys singing.
May I correct you.. 50 years. First record is dated 1970, this band is mind-blowing.
@@Zaxael This song is 8 years old
@@brennonrokovetsky3801 yes it was their last album, that sounds very similar to their first records (check the song N.I.B.) obviously the quality is better than the recordings im 1970, but the tune is very similar, now it is a bit more slow and dark which I love it.

Ozzy just hits different. Its like you feel his music down in your soul
Black sabbath*
Its the bass line that hit your soul :D
Ozzy is the perfect performer. The most excellent Bill Ward provided the floor, walls, and plenty of decoration. Tony Iommi tunes his guitar down. Geezer Butler battles him on bass like twin-guitar leads only much deeper (in more ways than one). Immortal art.

I don’t think this song is the least bit satanic. I think it’s supposed to be about a man seeing the atrocities of the world and struggling with his faith.
True Gopnik it’s about a religious fanatic who has began questioning his faith but finds his way back. Geezer is a devout catholic, he wouldn’t ride anything truly satanic
Your right, even Ozzy ... during his concerts or with the Sabbath after finishing a song, he constantly say to the crowd '' God Bless You All!'' ...

As a Catholic, the line "give me the wine, I don't need bread" hits home
it struck me too, what do you think he meant by that?
@@folkertdejong7557 I believe it means he would rather just have the alcohol and get drunk than participate in the ritual of "consuming" Christ, which is what you do at mass. The wine represents the blood of Christ, the bread represents the body. The prayers represent the Holy Ghost. He saying just let me have the wine so I can get buzzed and tolerate this world. I believe. Who really knows with Ozzy?
@@valuedhumanoid6574 thank you! That sounds like a very solid interpretation.
@@valuedhumanoid6574 Yeah thats the impression I get as well. To me this is a statement on how the western world has fallen into the glorification/idealisation of sinful deeds like gluttony, it hit hard like you said and then later in the song 'Give me more wine, I don't need bread'. The rejection of christ. And its a mean song
I think it just sounded cool he didnt tell me thst when i asked
This is why *Black Sabbath* are the kings of Metal, _controversy_ cannot touch them, they have risen above us lowly mortals.
Black Sabbath is the perfect band: the riffs, the bass line, the vocals
Sometimes I wonder how Ozzy survived, but then I learn to Accept that he is still out there, with every band he has formed, Out there making sense. Society would rather watch Tic-Toc/ Fantasy God Land...can't they realize that they are being turned into 'virtuality'? They had the magic touch for sure. Decades after they invented the genre - "At the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in 2014, the band won the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for "God Is Dead?". Commercially, 13 was a number-one album in several countries, including the United Kingdom and United States. It was later certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for selling 100,000 copies in the United Kingdom. The album was also certified platinum in four countries."
To do this 45 years after their debut is unreal . The longevity of musicians from the 60's and 70's is why modern music will never reach the heights of classics . The closest I've seen in modern days being a kid born in the 90's is bands like Green Day and the Foo Fighters still going in their early 50's when I remember growing up with their music .

Eventually, I gave in and replayed this song on UA-cam... that was back in 2014. Fast forward to 2016 I was already VERY into metal and saw them live in São Paulo - Brazil (where I'm from)... almost a decade has passed since that MTV programme and, well... the rest is history. This is a statement on how society had lost the need to have God as a way to explain things we dont understand. Because of science we know how certain things came in to existence instead of giving God credit for it.
@@kultenhughes3585 That part actually is even more detailed and gets more and more eerie the more you look into it. The madman in Nietzsches work talks about how people KILLED God, and that they will see the consequences of their actions. People didn't lose the need for God, they just turned away, since as you said, the technological and social changes, the decline of the power of the Church as an institution (which is a good thing). The "madman" is looking at this absurd situation where people gradually discarded one of the most crucial things in their life. And boy was he right to worry, just look at the 20th century.

And murder in mind
Out of the gloom I rise up from my tomb into impending doom
Now my body is my shrine

The voices echo in my head
Is God alive or is God dead?
Is God dead?
Rivers of evil
Run through dying land
Swimming in sorrow, they kill, steal, and borrow. There is no tomorrow
For the sinners will be damned
Ashes to ashes
You cannot exhume a soul
Who do you trust when corruption and lust, creed of all the unjust,
Leaves you empty and unwhole?
When will this nightmare be over? Tell me!
When can I empty my head?
Will someone tell me the answer?

Is God really dead?
To safeguard my philosophy
Until my dying breath
I transfer from reality
Into a living dead
I empathize with enemies
Until the timing's right
With God and Satan at my side
From darkness will come light
I watch the rain
As it turns red
Give me more wine
I don't need bread
These riddles that live in my head
I don't believe that God is dead

This song is not about questioning God’s existence. He is asking himself how has the world separated themselves from God, and lived immoral materialistic lives.
No not really. I'm pretty sure it's about how a guy is having a mental breakdown because people are suffering and a guy in the sky who most people are forced to believe isn't doing anything. And the guy's like "What are doing??? Do something we're suffering??? Why are making innocent people go through this???" But like nothing's happening so he has to question his faith because would a person with infinite power really put all these innocent people through suffering even though he's suppose to be a merciful God? Yeah I don't think so.
