- Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was announced as the Maternal Mental Health Alliance’s (MMHA) Royal Patron during Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week on 6th May 2022.
The MMHA is honoured and delighted that The Princess of Wales has recognised and chosen to support our work by becoming Royal Patron. The Princess’ longstanding dedication to the Early Years and keen interest in mental health marry beautifully with the Alliance’s mission to ensure every mum, baby and family affected by perinatal mental health problems can access the right care and support necessary. We look forward to working with The Princess to make this goal a reality for all.

The birth of a child is one of life’s greatest gifts. But it can also be one of the most challenging times for many families and one that should not be faced alone.
This Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week is about the power and importance of connection. The past couple of years have reminded us just how much we need each other and how vital our relationships are to our long-term health and happiness. This starts in the very earliest years of our lives, when we need close and continuous care from the people around us to nurture our development and ensure that we get the right start in life.
But we all know that pregnancy, childbirth and the first months and years of a child’s life can be hugely demanding. Parents often feel lonely and overwhelmed by these early years. Around twenty per cent of women in the UK are reported to experience perinatal mental illness. Sadly, we also know that many more are suffering in silence. No one is immune to experiencing anxiety and depression during this time.
It is crucial, therefore, that all those who might be struggling are given the right support at the right time, so that they’re able to share these feelings without fear of judgement and can access the information, care and support they need to recover.
Over the last decade, charities and organisations working in this space have come together to transform attitudes, raise awareness and ensure that services are available to parents and babies at this important time in their lives.
Much of this vital work has been led by the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, a fantastic organisation of which I am extremely proud to become Patron of today.
There is plenty more to be done. And it’s down to each and every one of us to support parents and carers, and all those who are raising children today. Because by ensuring that the next generation of children can thrive, we can help to build a stronger, healthier and more nurturing society which benefits us all.

I am 68. With my second child, i really suffered post partem depression. It lessoned, but oh how I wish I had known what it was. I couldn’t explain why I was crying when I was holding my beautiful baby. I hope this organization helps many new mothers who suffer what I did.
I went something similar but read a lot of books while I was expecting and that helped. The princess's Heads together programme brought worldwide real awareness of this problems and companies are also more willing to look after their worker's mental health far more readily. I applaud her for all the efforts she put into her causes

Really? So you want even more turmoil by putting another politician as head of state. Loose billions of revenue that is brought into the country yearly. Loose the millions they help to bring in for charities. The goodwill they bring to countries the world over in a manner that no politician can achieve. They cost you less than £2 a year. Well we all go this way but none of us normal citizens gets such an attention. It is a huge circus and not fitting modern times. I would have appreciated a different funeral, strictly privat and afterwards a celebration of Elisabeth s life and anecdotes surrounding her. I wished that Charles would not look so sad. He has a terrific life since more than 70 years eating, consuming, experiencing only the best and belonging to a family company that has such an enormous wealth that they could all together move to another planet if they wanted to. Elisabeth filled in a job. She sold out Great Britain by losing colonies releasing them into independance and over crowding the Great Britain with more foreigners than English people living there. My father who was my KING and became 97 years old said that a human being should consume and live in the balance of the Golden Middle Way. What Elisabeth did was in many aspects exagerated and too much, having lost balance. The colonies she released are nor better off without the English as the English have an enormous culture, knowledge, creativity and are one of the top industrialized countries who would have transformed African colonies into peacefuller states if they still had the reign over there. You should avail yourself to the real facts and not believe every stupid lie told by someone who is a proven liar. Harry had therapy from a very young age when he was taken for therapy by his mother and father when he started school because he was always causing problems. That therapy also culminated in him being sent to rehab after his father became aware of his drug usage as a teenager. He had his therapist's number on speed dial. I am quite sure that he knew exactly how to use it. It says a lit about himself that he failed to do so.
