Scarlet Sprites that’s the dream. A dedicated vertical candy sounds lovely. I’m sure we’ll both have our vertical cabs soon enough. I hope you’re enjoying the holidays!
I'm trying to decide between an Astro City and a blast City and a neo Geo mini cab. Shipping is such a mess that is quite a commitment these days to get a candy cab.
Not sure where you’re located but if State side, and you can swing it, there is better value in having two shipped instead of one. That was part of why I grabbed the Astro and Blast at the same time.
@@ScarletSprites Yeah I'm crammed in flyover country. We drive out to California a lot so I'm hoping to eventually get something from KC out there someday. He seems super busy though. I also owe my wife a few PVM sales to fund these :) Do you have a sense for the going rate these days? Probably about 1500 for a reasonable quality?
Oh mas i have the Astro City and this cp shock problem bothered me til today. So its just a matter of change the original cable cord to a 3 prong cord and taking out the old one?. Thank you.
To be honest, i already tried to do something similar, i wired a neutral cord from the pin located outside of the cab directly to the neutral hole of a outlet but it didnt work (noisy). Now i believe what i did wrong, was wire it from the outside part of the cab, instead a shoud have pinned from the inside where the other green neutral cables are screwed and wired.
It’s been a while, but I’m pretty certain all that’s needed is to run the ground from the new power cord to the screw where all the other green ground wires are (you can see them at 3:23). It should put everything on earth ground at that point.
Hi, where would I be able to find a candy cab on the west coast? I see that I can order it from online and have it shipped from over seas. I was wondering if there are easier ways to get them in the US.
Thegameroom.com generally has some in stock, but you’re going to pay for them. You can also check the sale forums on arcade-projects.com, KC sells candies and is located in California.
I picked them up from thegameroom.com a few years ago. Prices have increased fairly dramatically since that time, so be prepped for some sticker shock.
I’m looking to get a candy cab and don’t know if i should get an Astro or Blast city? What are some main differences is the experience vastly different?
The main thing I would be concerned about is the monitor and its condition. After that, consider how each is wired. You can do whatever you'd like obviously, but the Blast City will typically be JVS wired which makes it nice for Naomi boards. In short, find a cabinet with a nice monitor and then work your way from there. If you have a few options as far as monitor goes, decide what type of board you want to play most and then ask how the cabinet you are interested in is wired.
Finding one randomly in stock from a distributor these days is going to be tough. You’re probably going to have to order when someone is filling a container. Popular sources are KC, GameSaru, and GndZeroGames.
Great video, thanks for the tips on the grounding! Also, do you have a level/walk-in basement, or did you have to get that behemoth down a flight of stairs? I'm looking at buying a Sega New Net City cab in my area, and just trying to brainstorm the easiest way to get it down a flight of 7 steps, haha. Thanks again for the video man. Subbed!
At the time of the video I could bring these in straight through the garage and directly into a ground floor bonus room. Stairs are never great to deal with when moving cabs but the Astro City is actually pretty light when compared to traditional wood cabinets. You can actually tilt these at a 45 and roll them on their wheels.
@@ScarletSprites thanks, that's really helpful, I actually had no idea they had wheels/casters. Between that and their more squat stature I'd probably be able to get it down the stairs with a hand truck/appliance dolly. I have previous experience owning and moving a full size Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition z-back style cabinet, so I fully know what you mean when you refer to traditional wood cabinets, with z-back cabs being even somehow worse. I imagine you probably save at least 100 pounds with these candy cabs. Thanks again for the input man, much appreciated.
I’ve not had any issues with it and no one in the arcade forums seemed to think that that was a concern, so I just ran with it. It’s been a little over a year at this point and all is well.
You made a mistake if you intend to play Naomi games on a candy cab, the Blast City is the best cab for that purpose because of its tri-sync monitor, Astro is either 15khz or dual sync 15/24.
Yep, I still own it but I have no plans to sell. It’s definitely a great little machine. I can appreciate the struggle of finding one on the East if you’ve been searching for a while.
@@Green1up The forums on arcadeotaku, arcade-projects.com, and klov are good to monitor. It can be slow go though and you may still need to drive to pick it up. It's all chance. If you don't want to wait and want to buy from a distributor, it will reduce the wait and you can get it shipped. Thegameroom.com sells candies and arcade4homes.com was taking names of interested parties, presumably for an upcoming group buy.
Kane Dash I’d definitely recommend it, it’s been great the last few years. There’s a decent amount of vendors, concerts, panels, free play arcade, and even some tournaments.
I just happened to come across your channel - nice content! I hope to catch up, and yes, you have a new subscriber. :) I know what you mean about living on the East coast - For years, I've longed for a candy cab, but yeah - Easy Coast pretty much equals "No dice"... :( Anyway, reading below where you discussed your Blast City, I'd really like it if you discussed your NAOMI set up? I purchased a Zero Key a while back in hopes of picking up a NAOMI or NAOMI 2 Unit (hopefully with a working GD-ROM unit as well), even if it means having to run it through a Supergun, It seems like information is very sparse lately. Jasen Hicks of Jasen's Customs used to have a lot of information, and even used to offer some accessories to make it happen, but alas, that information is gone now. The fact that he is still active Military and currently stationed in the Pacific means I'll have to be patient while he copmletes his current tour.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, glad you did. I’ve had a few requests to see more of the Blast City and so I definitely think I’ll cover that at some point this summer. As a spoiler, I am using a Naomi 2 in it that is netbooting via a Pi. It’s a great setup and gives you access to almost all Naomi games as well as the Atomiswave collection. Definitely check this forum out for more info... www.arcade-projects.com/forums/index.php?thread/1086-how-to-net-boot-naomi-tri-force-chihiro-using-pi-force-tools/
Watching this in anticipation of a Aero City I’m due to pick up soon. Love these old Sega candies - they’re beyond stylish.
Nice man! I’m certain that you will enjoy that. I’m really wanting to get a Neo candy or another Sega to use as a dedicated vertical cabinet.

Likewise, same to you man!
I’m binging all your videos in preparation for getting a cab this summer!
I guarantee you will learn a lot once you have it. Read and browse forums. There’s a lot of great info out there.
I just picked up a Sega New Astro City, thanks for the info on the grounding!
Yeah, make sure you take care of that! Enjoy!
What a beautiful machine,i have a new versus city but have always been in love w the look of the astro
I’d love to grab a New Astro City some day as well. Candies in general are just cool.

Good review, now I need one of these too.
They’re super cool, versatile, and keep going up in price unfortunately.

I choose Blast city..more universal,great sound..great screen 15/24/31khz...nice design..big marquee.

Its original cord supply is a 15a pin. Your is a 13a. DO you believe there´s any difference in this matter, or even a 10a pin would hold it?

I already have a NetBoot setup running on my Blast City. The Astro was for CPS2/CPS3 like I called out in the vid.
The naomi also has a 15khz mode.
Looks just fine.
do you still own the astro city cab and would you sell to a fellow east coaster ?

“Too Many Games”, it’s a con just outside of Philly in Oaks, PA.
