  • We started our trip with a few days in Peru's Sacred Valley to acclimate to the high elevation before moving on to the even higher city of Cusco. Our first stop was Rio Sagrado, A Belmond Hotel. Its grounds had the feel of a tranquil oasis, as the Urubamba River ran near grassy fields where alpacas grazed. Our next resort was the larger and more colorful Sol y Luna, where we particularly enjoyed the food at its two onsite restaurants, as well as its impressive stables. Our final destination was Inkaterra La Casona, an 11-room former mansion in Cusco that offered both extraordinary character and hospitality. These three properties were some of our favorites in all of Peru.
