    hey! found this through reddit and i enjoyed the video, i subscribed and i hope to see more of your content in japan☺i'm currently going into senior year of high school (college app season soon) and was wondering if you considered study abroad as a variable when you were applying to colleges?

      Omg thank you so much for the sub!!! To answer your question, I definitely did consider it while applying to colleges. It was definitely in my top 3 for picking where I wanted to go. Since I knew I wanted to go to Japan, I had to make sure the place I got into had a variety of options I could choose from. Good luck with the college hunt!!

    In your honest opinion, do you think learning at least the basics is necessary or should you learn the language before going to study abroad?

    • @Alexshi11
      @Alexshi11  2 місяці тому +1

      I would say learning the basics before you come to Japan will be so beneficial and helpful during your time here. I wish I had learned and studied more before coming here. With that being said, this is the best place to learn the language and I’ve noticed that my Japanese has gotten a lot better over the past month and a half of school.

      @@Alexshi11ty for the fast reply, but for example I am Portuguese and for me to study there I would probably have to make my own money and have my own financial support(Im already 18 btw), do you reckon its still possible with 1 year of working and then thinking on going there

      Were you thinking of studying in Japan full time? If so have you already applied to a Japanese university?

    • @Shadedemons
      @Shadedemons 2 місяці тому

      @@Alexshi11tbf full time would be cool ig, but in my country for me to go university you need certain entrance exams
      Yet im still discussing the idea with my brothers, weather i move, study or simply visit idk yet
      I would still love to go there but also unsure if I really want university; at first I wanted high school but yea, those days are already gone lol

      @@Shadedemons I’m not sure how the Universities in your country work but in the US its much easier to go through your university if they have exchange connections to universities in Japan. It makes it way easier to apply and they basically tell you what you need to do. If you decide to do a year or semester you’ll be able to plan it better with whatever you want to study. It was recommended to me to study abroad my junior year and since I started planning early I was able to save up, apply to scholarships, and figure out the best plan so that I wouldn’t have to worry about money here. If you do decide to go down a different route I would say try and get connections with faculty and set up meetings to learn more. It takes a lot of planning but i promise you it will be so worth it once you finally get here!

    i graduated HS about a year ago and have been saving up some money to try and go to japan and study. i was planning on going to a community college then transfer my credits to a university to finish my bachelors degree. i want to go and study japanese for around a year before i start college but i don’t really want debt after i come back. do you have any tips on how to plan?

    • @Alexshi11
      @Alexshi11  2 місяці тому

      Usually they recommend going later when you have your degree/major figured out. I’m currently a Junior and was able to get a few scholarships from my home University that made it pretty much free to come here to Japan and study for the semester. In your case I would maybe see if you could find some scholarships and apply for them as early as possible. Going while you’re in college is really awesome tho! It will be easier if the college you transfer to has connections in Japan. They’ll take care of a lot of the paper work and give you better direction and guidance instead of you having to do it all alone if you decided to go before college.

      From what I’ve experienced and heard, it’s much easier to go abroad for a semester or year once you’re already at university and apply as exchange student.

    What can I do to better my chances when studying abroad? I’m graduating hs with an associates, and freshman can’t study abroad at my college. So it’s like I only get one shot 😭

    • @Alexshi11
      @Alexshi11  2 місяці тому +1

      Could you explain your situation in more detail? What do you mean you’re graduating with associates in hs? I’m currently a junior studying abroad and its actually recommended to study abroad 2nd or 3rd year. I’ll be able to help more if you provide me with more details! Thanks!!

      @@Alexshi11 so I did a bunch of college classes in high school and got an associates degree. Which means I’ll be able to get a bachelors at the end of my sophomore year in college, but that might be the end of my college career at that point, unless I go for a further education. So assuming I only for a bachelor’s, I only get my sophomore year to study abroad, if I can make the cut.

    • @Alexshi11
      @Alexshi11  2 місяці тому +1

      @@RareWashington Wow! That’s really impressive!! if I were in your situation I would try and contact the study abroad office as early as you can to start building a relationship with them. I applied the first day they started accepting applications and was even able to receive an early planning scholarship. My University also offers summer programs abroad and short 2 week programs as well. If you wanted to spend an entire semester you could try and finish all your major credits before the last semester of your sophomore year and go then. Most people make the cut so I wouldn’t worry too much. If you haven’t already see if there are multiple schools you can study abroad in Japan. When I applied I got the option to rank 5 different schools so that basically gave me the peace of mind that I would get into at least one of them (got into top choice 😩) if you need anything else feel free to ask here or message me on my instagram!
