Personally, I really liked it. I really want to see season 2, especially Toph and | absolutely loved what. they did with Zuko and lroh. Their whole backstory and the 41st division, gosh, just amazing. I'm certain they can improve in future seasons if it gets renewed. You can tell that everyone who worked on this love the original show
I'm actually a big big fan of the way the agni Kai between ozai and zuko went. They mashed the og with the agni Kai against Zhao where zuko shows him mercy. Tickled my brain just right.
I personally hated it for that reason, so let me rant a LOT bcs imo it affected how people will view and feel about these characters in ways that just cheapened the OG storyline. This show loved to make Zuko waaay more compelling than the animated one & waaas too fast at that, and it just makes his character less of what it was bcs it was too sudden for just s1 imo. His Agni Kai with Zhao was one of the (if not the) first moments where we see Zuko as more than just a "villain". Bcs at that point s1 Zuko was just an angry teen hunting Aang, until thanks to that Agni Kai with Zhao we saw a glimpse of his true strength, his conviction, his discipline, his morals... but most importantly, his appreciation for his uncle while also asking for his reassurance on his honor & actions. When Iroh told Zhao, "Even in exile, my nephew is more honorable than you." With Zuko later softly asking if he meant it. We see how even if he's a villain to our cast & can't see the wrong in his ways, we see he has humanity. It's not all lost bcs he also cares about what his uncle thinks of him, so he may be able to change & maybe it's also bcs he's simply just a diamond in the rough bcs life hasn't been kind to him & he has a motive for his actions. Actions that, in his eyes, are entirely correct & commendable. Meanwhile with his father's Agni Kai we finally understand why this "villain" is the way he is, but also why we want to root for him to get his "honor" back & why even when he kidnaps Aang by the end of s1, as an audience, we're not even mad, just sad bcs we want smth better for Zuko. His Agni Kai showed how he was simply a kid who was just so afraid to even dare to fight his father bcs of how he respected & feared him. We also see how ruthless & downright evil his father was to punish his child when Zuko was begging for forgiveness on his knees. But this show threw that all away by having Zuko be able to best his father? How does that make sense? A pre teen 13 yr old Zuko beating the firelord?? Yeah that makes no sense & just made Ozai less intimidating too. That's a scene that just makes you notice even more how the adaptation wants to show u sm of Zuko & the characters that it'll trade the appreciation & love the audience slowly built towards them in the animation for a dump of exposition in this story, just giving you information so you know, "Zuko is strong, misunderstood & very understandable so remember NONE of this is his fault." Rather than make us have that journey of show DON'T tell about Zuko where we go, "dang who does this angry kid think he is?" To in the end be rooting for him & basically tearing up the moment he hugged Iroh. It felt earned, it felt worthy & special. This just feels bland. Oof sorry for the rant lmao. + And not to say I disliked everything in his character, but some sacrifices made to the story were not for the best imo
I feel like the main problem that really keeps this show from being good is the writers just telling and not showing. Literally when Aang found out he was the Avatar and went to talk to Appa and he literally just says how he’s a kid and he doesn’t want to be the Avatar. Another example is when Sokka at the start just starts talking about why Katara shouldn’t water bend and there was just so much exposition in their first conversation. Also when Zuko was on the ship, he literally just tells Iroh how he’ll take any sign of the Avatar. Also Aang’s conversation with Gyatso just felt really unnatural where Gyatso just tells Aang he needs to train and Aang just tells Gyatso how he’s so good at bending already. Also when Aang “runs away” he was just going for a ride cause he was upset and he was gonna come back so it didn’t have the same impact as in the original where Aang truly felt like he didn’t want the responsibility so he was planning to run away and not come back which had so much more of an emotional impact. Honestly these kind of problems just shows up throughout the season and it feels like the show is so afraid of being subtle and the show is always just telling the audience everything as if they don’t think the viewers are mature enough to pick up on subtext.
Agree. Why is Aang is so ready to accept everything they said? He isnt on denial or anything and just accepts. Like in the OG, he says "the only way to reach the air temple is with flying bison and I doubt fire nation has any flyng bison". In here he just accepts and depressed. I always laugh when I say Aang take Appa for a casual flight in to the storm LOL. How is that make any sense man. Arent they gonna told them, never fly trough a storm LOL. Another thing is why made Gyatso in the spirit world? In real life or in here, when u r dead, u r gone forever. That showing Gyatso in the spirit world take all the seriousless of the situation. Now death is just mild inconvience. U just meditate 5-10 mins and u can talk to your best friend and mentor whenever u want. Are they gonna forget Aang can talk to Gyatso in the later seasons? I really hated this in the Korra as well. And if they are gonna keep mesh Korra and ATLA, then we are in for a disaster in the later seasons. Bumi also butchered in netflix as well. If this guy is messed up in the head due to war then why is he gonna let Iroh transport to another prison instead of killing him in his city? That never made any sense whatever. The guy wants to kill Aang for abondening them but Bumi doesnt care about Iroh, the brother of fire lord and the dragon of the west or whatever, LOL. In the beginning Katara and Sokka left Appa in the ice and it is funny, cuz if Zuko went for the glow then he wouldve caught Appa, just like that LOL. The remake writers always make that simple mistake, they always assume everyone who is gonna watch it did watch the series. But that is the beauty of the remake, u have to change it and that makes it more intruguing. Like instead of showing the genocide and make Aang accept it jst like that, u go like the show but change here and there and we are gonna bo curious to how he is gonna see the bodies or instead of giving all that info make us learn the different ways. Showing the genıcide is really edgy no matter what everyone says. I never wanted to see it. I wanted to see Gyatso like in the cartoon and u can speculate that that old guy is one hell of a badass.
After watching the entire season, they really nullified Aang and Kataras relationship. Katara not calming Aang down after finding Gyatso, Sokka and Katara in the cave of two lovers... Aang going from teaching Katara water bending in secret at the northern water tribe to being against Katara wanting to fight. I'm not even a fan of the pair and yet it bothered me how obviously they avoided all their bonding scenes. Alot of plot was changed- the Omashu episode being the lowest low of the new series for me. Even so, the new writing is also responsible for my new favourite moment- Zuko and the 41st division. It felt really satisfying and powerful to learn about how he got the crew for his impossible mission. The series costume design is near perfect as well. It's not so black and white bad like alot of fans make it out to be. It tries to do it's own thing in a risky hit or miss situation and can be enjoyed for what it is.
I was pleasantly surprised by this show it was a lot better than I was expecting it to be my biggest complaint, is that animated Katara had a lot of spunk and fierceness that made many fans happy and live action Katara does not seem to have as much as spunk and fierce personality I hope this show gets a season 2 and if does I would appreciate it if the writers gave Katara the same kind of spunk and fierceness animated Katara had.
It is good, but I hate how they change some things like Sokka's subplot which allowed him to develop into a respectable man And Katara being a compassionate motherly figure is a good thing too because she is the hopeful one out of the gang to omit or forget this part of her is not alright
Sokka’s subplot change had no impact on his growth, they did really well taking the sexist subplot and turning it into him being insecure as a “warrior” and how he can move to accept that he has other things he’s good at that make him a good leader. Katara was gutted as a charecter so far though
i dont like how they fully changed some characters personalities, but people sh1tting on the casting and making fun of how its written upsets me. yeah, at some points they could do a lot better but honestly i loved it. cant wait for the next season, i just know its gonna be top tier
I’m 50/50 on it but some people are absolutely overreacting you can tell it’s made by people who absolutely care about the source material but feel a little embarrassed about it at the same time
My overall problems with the live action are that they make some changes that don't really work out well. Like, I'm not asking them to make a shot for shot recreation, but if they are going to make changes, at least make it help improve the story, not make it weaker.
One of the feel being weird about it it's how ironically the live action doesn't feel this much alive (details such as emotion in the eyes, clothes always clean even tho they fight in the muds...) But the visual effects are very good
yeah its a shame they seemed to put so much money into the costumes on the surface but didn't bother to wear them a little with dirt or tiny tears. I immediately noticed that too. Made it look more like cosplay for certain scenes
I am glad they went for a tone change and made some of the characters less goofy. If there is one improvement I could push for, it would be the over explaining dialog. I don't want to hear Aang tell me he is scared of his power and responsibility. SHOW ME!!
I think being less goofy is fine but I think they should be more expressive with their emotion...the closest we have was the argument about Sai vs. Jet but it was kinda jarring because they haven't had that intensity before, IMO.
@@zjzr08 I thought I was a little more jarring because of how suddenly they stopped. But yeah agreed. I think some of that comes down to the younger actors though. I think Zuko's did a good job with it in contrast.
@@wildfireamvI can see that being young might cause an issue but i think it has to do with the directions they’re given like the director should’ve seen that they needed to push for more emotion
The way I saw it, Aang did help Heibai when he planted the seed in front of his statue because Heibai is the spirit of the forest so by planting the seed he's starting the process of healing the forest back to the way it was before the Fire Nation burned it down.
Yeah people want a shot for shot remake of the cartoon, but I don't. I've seen the cartoon and enjoyed it, but I don't need this to be a live action carbon copy of the cartoon.
I don’t want a shot for shot remake of the original. What’s the point of that?? The world of Avatar the Last Air Bender is full of rich lore and amazing world building that it doesn’t need to stick strictly to the original. A live action adaptation has a ton of potential, it can build upon things that we didn’t get to see in the original, like the air bender genocide. A live action version can expand on the darker themes of the story and can get darker or show more brutality because it isn’t restricted by Nickelodeon’s ratings, which can be a good thing for portraying the darker themes. The potential for live bending battles is HUGE it’s one of the biggest appeals of adapting this world and this story into live action. The live action show doesn’t need to be just like the original, it just needs to be faithful to the story and the incredible world-building. The book of water is the weakest season in the original, it doesn’t reach the same heights as the later seasons. Season 1 of ATLA has some growing pains and it’s safe to say that the live action show will probably have some growing pains. Taking on this story is a monumental task, and this was their first outing. There’s room for growth, and the show will improve, the actors will improve as they gain more experience and become more comfortable with their characters. The show would benefit from longer seasons 10-15 episodes, but considering the fact that each episode costs millions of dollars, 10 episode seasons are the most likely. A remedy for this is to not try to adapt one book per season and break the story into smaller chunks. That’ll give the show room to breathe and allow for more character moments and development. This show has potential, it’s off to a good start and it will only get better as it continues.
That’s a complete mischaracterization of the criticisms being offered lol I’m tired of people responding to the absolute weakest criticisms being offered and acting like they’re responding to the strongest criticisms
@@iomis2001 I never said “nobody” said that, I said that people are responding to the weakest criticisms and ignoring the criticism that is well-reasoned
Bro Kyoshi popped up and fvcked sh!t up!!! We don’t want a shot for shot but damnnnnn don’t just throw in the things “we love” just because and don’t put things where they shouldn’t be. The show is AWFUL and we don’t need it. How can’t y’all see how fvcked this remake is ?!?! 😭😭😂🥴 and the acting is TRASH. They tried to make it “look like Avatar”, but said fvck trying to make you FEEL it too.
First Percy Jackson, now Avatar live action... both needed kinda more episodes for better pacing (let's say 10) and a serious rewrite for these exposition dumps throughout. Great potential but flawed execution basically - neither are terrible by any means and obviously better than those non-existent movies. Both added some new scenes I really loved for the emotional impact but all in all I'm not hyped about rewatching either.
i think the avatar one was a bit worse tho percy jackson one had 8 on average and some 9's avatar had one terrible one (the spirit hei bai one) and fluctuating others, it didn't understand the source material as well, and had a lot of terrible changes
I have a ton of positive thoughts, but I’ll need to get back to those thoughts at a later point. In regard to Aang flying, I think that made sense. In Legend of Korra, we find out that Airbenders who have nothing weighing them down can fly. Aang is 12 before the 100 year war. Aang was also a prodigy. Aang had nothing weighing him down. He probably lost the ability to fly without a glider when he saw all of his previous friends and family were skeletons, being weighed down by his grief.
One thing that bothered me is that Aang doesn't learn water-bending at all! Not even from Katara or Master Pakku. I also didn't like how Aang said that Katara shouldn't fight Master Pakku since he was scared of losing her in the war, because in the OG he was in full support of her fighting him. I did like Sokka supporting her though. Although, I think my favorite episode so far has been Masks- that episode was great to explore Zuko's back story and the Blue Spirit. I think Zuko and Uncle Iroh in the show was my favorite part of it, especially about Lu-Ten. I just want something more out of Sokka and Katara. I didn't really like their character changes except for Katara still feeling trauma with her mother being killed. I feel like everyone was having their own separate adventures and they were almost never together. I need more of the gaang together and Aang learning more water-bending.
Right?! Because that’s how the first season went anyways and Katara not teaching Aang is a really big thing because that’s how he learned to master the elements with the help of Katara, Zuko and Toph so it’s very annoying
1:18 i’ve always wanted to show to get its animated movies, and luckily that dream is gonna come through in the future. I could always adapt the comics.
The 1st episode was horrible. 1st and 2nd episodes are the worst out of the other horrible episodes. There’s spectacular moments and beautiful visuals…. But that’s it. It’s empty. The actors don’t sell it or make me feel ANYTHING.
All of the casting is perfect and the acting is good too? Only person that could be improved is azula she lacks the scary points in her but other than that I enjoyed it and it’s a great improvement from the horrendous 2010 movie. And I think the story is like the original but they changed a few things and I like it
Positives: CGI and sound design are pretty good - you can tell a decent part of their budget went into that. I also think the bending movements and fight scenes are well-choreographed, in addition to the actual effects when bending the 4 elements. Negatives: My God, the acting. Also, some of the casting choices. I'm mostly referring to Katara and Azula, and maybe Aang (he's a bit younger though, so it's tolerable). Sokka and Zuko portray their characters pretty well in comparison, but Katara's acting in particular was abysmal.
Right? When she was “consoling” Aang in the first episode she had no trace of empathy or any emotion indicating that she felt for him! She literally said I’m sorry 😶😐
man i dont get it the reviewers who are mwant to be heard arent and the one ones who arent are which is crazy as a fan i loved it too but crazt how reviewers were just bashing it so bad but it was so good and we need people who arent following a trend
The live-action with complete and thoroughly all things considered was objectively at the very least a 7/10 & a 8/10 at the most. I gave it a 7.5/10. It definitely was so incredibly far from bad. People are overreacting. Spreading, feeding from and selling negativity because it equals attention and money. People crave and need drama. It's why people kept lying and making stuff up with all the headlines, news,... by misinterpreting them for the sake of spreading negativity; doubt, fear,... setting ablaze a firestorm of hate through controversy and drama. This was before the series came out since it's announcement. It has gotten worst and continues. I hope the real true fans like myself can overcome this and help get the live-action series to continue for more seasons and possibly more. Triumph. It's only a good thing, more and bigger Avatarverse for us.
I think it's less about a need for drama, and more about how the American entertainment industry seems to be so flush with live action remakes, at the moment. Disney has been going at it for a while, and now DreamWorks is apparently planning to release a remake of "How To Train Your Dragon."
I don’t think it’s awesome at all due to the writing of the show but if I did think it was awesome I wouldn’t pretend otherwise, I’m not a fan of pretenders or people pleasing. I would be interested to see some video essays from people who really like the show addressing some of the well-reasoned criticisms that have been laid out in some of the detailed video essays. I feel like most of the defenses of the show I’ve been seeing are pretty much just responding to the absolute weakest criticisms of the show but are acting like they’re responding to the most well-reasoned critiques. The original felt like it was made for smart kids and this live action feels like it was made for dumb adults. Even this 20 minute video didn’t address any of the detailed criticisms of the writing and dialogue, one of the most basic problems being to the complete inversion of “show don’t tell”
Yes I agree! There’s a ton of things that I don’t like/agree with but I’m not saying it should be an exact replica of the animated series and I don’t like that everyone thinks that the criticism the show is receiving is due to the fact that people wanted an exact replica 🙄 that’s not how everybody feels
@@jazmineavila6578 yep and it isn’t just not how everybody feels it’s barely anyone that feels that way. If anything I was kinda hoping for a 2:1 adaption, still being as faithful to the original as they could but going into 2x greater detail, but instead they really just changed up the story rather than adding to it. I was hoping for more smaller character moments/ stories, kinda like the episode ‘zuko alone’ except exploring all of the characters in a deeper way and showing more subtle moments with the characters. But if they had had really talented and ambitious writers then it still could have been really great even if they changed it up significantly
I'm really happy that this season is doing great. I don't have Netflix anymore, but when the series is done, I'm GONNA get the DVD collection of this one. Yes, this is still a mixed bag based on reviews, but I've seen clips and so far I'm hooked. It might not be 100% adaptation but at least they got the core root of it. And another big thing in its favor...THEY GOT THE BENDING RIGHT!!! 'We don't talk about Shyamalan- naw-naw-naw'
I still feel mixed about the show. I like the changes they’ve made to Zuko and Iroh and how they have more of a reason why they have a strong bond and the story episode changes don’t bother me too much. I just feel a little upset with how the Gaang was handled. Sokka was pretty good but I think it was important for him to be kinda sexist or at least flawed early on so he learns from his mistakes to become the great leader he is by the end of the show. Katara doesn’t feel like she has as much as motherly role as before which is fine but I feel like part of that is her being more assertive. Like when she decides to fight Pakku because he won’t teach her she just says it to sokka compared to how she got into his face about it and her frustration felt more genuine. Aang has it the worst I’d say. He doesn’t water bend a single time (besides the avatar state with the ocean spirit but that doesn’t really count since he didn’t learn it) and originally that was the whole motivation for going to the North Pole. I think Pakku even calls him out on it and how he should have been practicing and I think if they did it could have been some good bonding time with Katara. Idk I guess overall with these and other missing pieces at the end of the season the Gaang feel kinda like we don’t know them that well or at least haven’t grown that much besides maybe Katara being a better bender? Idk I’m just curious what other people think about the three. I think the visuals are beautiful and omashu was literally breathtaking when I first saw it and I really think this show had a lot of effort and care into it.
Idk how it’s “mixed”!!! Lmfao it’s TRASH and I’m shocked that we (the og fans) haven’t come to that collective conclusion!! 😅 it’s trash. Nothing mixed in my corner.
I really like the show, and I like a lot of the character changes, at least enough to see how they play out in later seasons. Solid 8/10. I think I would have given the original cartoon 8/10 when I saw the first season too. The amount of negativity toward this show is a little overwhelming though. I’ve skimmed hundreds of comments and only found a handful that were positive. So here are my defenses: -I think there is a guiding principle behind the character changes: greater emotional realism. In a cartoon, it’s ok for characters to have extreme personalities because it’s natural for us to suspend our disbelief more when we watch a cartoon. I just think that if they didn’t make adjustments to the characters to moderate their personalities, it would be impossible for the actors to pull off those roles in live-action. -Zuko and Azula: Like many fans, I assumed these characters were much older than they were watching the cartoon, and didn’t realize they were teenagers until probably in season three when my brother brought it up. I think that’s because they aren’t believable teenagers. Some of the actions they take are far too cruel to imagine of a fourteen or sixteen-year old. We’re used to this in anime, but I just don’t think you could have a fourteen-year old girl believably threaten to drop a soldier overboard (which is not even close to the most frightening things Azula does). -Ozai: people seem to be concerned that he’s not heartless or powerful enough, mostly because of the Agni Kai. I think it’s fine that he wouldn’t use his full power on his son, and I think he let Zuko have an opening to see if he could ruthlessly strike his own father. I guess he looks slightly hesitant as he burns Zuko’s eye, but he still follows through as an enormously demanding and manipulative father. Again, he seems like a more believable version of how a father and monarch might try to repress his emotions in real life. -Iroh: he was great for comic relief and advice in the cartoon, but I never felt like that well-adjusted wisdom and slightly detached humor were consistent with his back story. If he’s really sensitive enough to abandon command of the most important battle of his life and perhaps the war when his son dies, is it really believable that he would have an aura of having everything figured out just a few years later. The Netflix Iroh seems much more consistent with this fragility that was crucial to how events turned out in his family. -Aang: he seems a bit more serious, but I don’t really mind. I’m just glad he hasn’t been obsessing over Katara. It was ok for him to have a crush on her in the cartoon, but for that too develop into a romance while he was 12 didn’t make any sense. -Katara: I agree, she seems to have lost much of her forcefulness, which I do miss. But again, I’m just relieved that she shows zero signs of romantic interest in Aang so far. So I guess that makes me ok with her character on balance. -Sokka: I guess I never thought of overcoming sexism to be very important to his character, so I didn’t notice much of a change. He’s probably the closest to the cartoon version of the main cast. -Zhao: I like that they made him more conniving and duplicitous, I think that’s more interesting than cartoon Zhao who just came off as generally competent if overly prideful. I was a little disappointed that his death was a little anticlimactic compared to the cartoon. -Bumi: he was good for comic relief in the cartoon and his quirkiness masked the issue that his story doesn’t really make any sense. Netflix Bumi seems like a person who has believable been in power and at war for the better part of 100 years, weighed down by that power and responsibility. -I do agree that the writing didn’t come off as elegantly as the cartoon and there probably was too much exposition, but it’s hard for me to tell having watched the cartoon already.
15:46 and it doesn't even make sense that they're angry and he feels guilty... i mean.. he didn't even run away! he just went on a thinking fly it wasnt hist FAULT!!
It's pleasant to see someone not rip into the show. Most of the reviews I've seen are pretty mixed or straight up dunk on the show. While I don't think the show was anywhere near awesome, it had a couple good bits. Although I disagree with your take on chemistry, the dialogue felt extremely forced in some scenes 😂 And I didn't like Omashu. I felt having so many side characters in the same story took away from their essence and made them a lot less memorable.
My biggest problems with the live action show are, first, how human they made Azula seem, second making King Boomy bitter, making Roku funny, how "quirky" they made Yue, and lastly, how soft they made Zuko. Sorry if i sound really harsh, i did love some aspects of the show. Loved Jet, Sokka, Suki, Zhao, and Uncle Iroh 💜💜
I liked the twist of Bumi’s character. I think it makes sense to have some pushback and realism about what the horrors of relentless war can do to a person
@@melovekittie But it doesnt make any sense. Cuz Bumi lets Iroh transport to another prison instead of giving judjement. Iroh is the brother of fire lord and has the nickname dragon of the west so if he is that bitter than Bumi should killed him. Bumi blaming Aang is never gonna work for me. Cuz the attack happened the same night Aang learned he is the avatar. The kid never learned any other elements and can only bend air so he wont be putting of a fight against comet empowered fire nation so his attitude is nonsense. From his POV: lets say world learned the genocide like after a week later and at that point what is Aang gonna do against fire nation? Isny Bumi should ask Aang what happened, how he survived, why he is still a child after 100 years, why he waited so long. After listening his story he can make that decision. But he right away assumes all that in his head I guess? And if he was that bitter than instead of killing him just teach him earth bending and summon masters to his city, make him prepare and send him to kill fire lord instead of killing him. He must know that killing him will make the avatar circle to move to the next and it will be at least another 15-20 years for the new avatar to become fully prepared. So his decisions are just for the stupid drama or shock value? All Bumi's decisions never make sense. The most important thing is Aang never left. He went for a casual flight with his bison into the storm LOLOLOLOL, This still makes me laugh so hard. And attack happen at the same night OMG, still funny those changes. The writers thought if we blame Aang for all this then we will be mature? Those changes and that blaming Aang is complete opposite. Like u said "I think it makes sense to have some pushback and realism about what the horrors of relentless war can do to a person", if this is true then kill Iroh idiot Bumi. U had the person who u can blame all this on and the guys who started all this, why letting him transport to another prison, why not kill him righ there? What u said and Bumi letting Iroh go to another prison contradicts. But Bumi can blame a 12 yo child for the things he had no control over is make totaly sense, HOW?
Eveyone that doesn’t like it or is “50/50” on it just can’t accept/ appreciate change it has amazing visuals, character arch and development, and the CGI is on par with a lot of big movies atm
@@spy_penguin28.5 It’s literally the first season it’s called story building nothing they left out or changed effects the overall story how do you expect them to fit 20 episodes into one season with a limited amount of episodes and still be able to bring people back for season 2?
Idk I'm not really a fan. They changed a fair bit of the characters and made them worse. They got rid of Katara's motherly-ness but dont replace it with a good dynamic. shes just bland now and for some reason every woman just falls for Sokka and he's just good at everything he does? And the costumes are soo clean; too clean. Bumi's character was just someone else entirely. And aang literally just says "I like to goof around with my friends, eat banana bread and play air ball" without showing any of this. And he's too serious imo. They also crammed a bunch of stories and none of them really developed. I did like the visuals and the fact that they introduced ozai and azula early on.
I'm not saying I want a shot for shot remake, that'd be bad either. none of the changes they made really played out well at all. I also wish they'd added more hybrid animals or just used appa and momo more. Iroh is also eh, he doesn't seem as empathetic as he was. I did like zuko being there for the funeral but I feel like that scene was too soon. I also liked the aang and iroh dynamic. They also made azula a victim from the way it plays out? I wish she'd just be a villain.
There's also an airbender council planning to attack even though they're pacifists? also they keep breaking the "show dont tell rule". i liked they had some pretty niche info on the older avatars. im also glad there was no romance yet since theyre kids and all. also in the original show we see aang start learning bending very early on but this didnt really happen at all until much later
And since sokka's sexism arc has been covered enough i wont repeat it but they replaced that storyline with something much more sexist???????? suki literally said that sokka just existing made her life better like what??? they also turned her into a creep ew
@@UnknownUser-mj8rg The worst thing for me is Gyatso being in the spirit world. I didnt like in the Korra as well. In the OG, Aang lost all his people and his culture cuz he left them and that guilt is stayed with him even in the last season we see it. When Aang tries to open one of his chakra, he has to confront that guilt. Even tho he has Katara, Sokka, Toph, Appa, Momo, the guilt leaving his people especially his mentor and best friend Gyatso stayed with him untill the end of the series. But here, that loss and guilt is now a small inconvience. He meditate like 5-10 mins and he can talk to Gyatso just like that. So death in here is just small inconvience for them to talk. Now they can even talk untill he dies and even after that he go to spirit world and have his best friend and mentor with him forever. That impact of loss is nothing here just a small incovience.
Thank you so much for understanding this amazing masterpiece they made with this live action, it managed to make changes that makes sense if you are trying to make it feel more real. The fact that this amazing adaptation has the essence of the original but still manage to be its own story is just amazing. I can’t tell you about how many people that has been hating on this show. Gosh! People really can’t see what an beautiful show this is and yes I understand that people like to compare it with the OG but come on this was never intended to be a 1:1 adaptation of the beloved anime cuz noting can surpass the OG. The fact that so many people really like to compare every single little detail with the OG is annoying and destroys the uniqueness of this amazing adaptation and destroying the thought of watching the OG but with another perspective. And yes many of the actors where meh! But overall everything was on point they really nailed the essence and the likeness of the characters from the OG with it’s own twist to it. I really love it and I hope we get a season 2 so that they can fix some stuff that was not great. Mostly I want to see what more they can make with a second season :) ❤ #Netflixmakeasecondseason #ATLALiveAction
@@sammyjohnson5596 If we, as fans, want the flaws be addressed, all the hatred spewing is not helping. It would easier for Netflix to find another project :( I really hope the raw viewing numbers give us more seasons. :)
I can't understand what you see in that show. Yes, the visuals and casting are great, but the writing is pure shit. It seems to me the showrunners don't understand the OG show. Yes, the anti war message was important, but at the heart of it was coming out of age story about three kids! But this version has no character development. Sokka is no longer sexist and doesn't overestimate his abilities. Katara is not slightly selfish and doesn't need to learn waterbending because she is a prodigy. Aang doesn't need to accept his mission as avatar, because he is already all about that sweet responsibility! I'm not joking, duty and responsibility are like his favorite words!😢😢
yeah, they ruined it literally. Doesn't matter how flashy and nice the reference scenes look with all that action and beautiful shots. It's worthless when the heart of the series is not there
Yeah it’s annoying that people defending the show are doing so by completely mischaracterizing or just straight up ignoring the many well-reasoned criticisms that people are offering. “Oh you’re just biased bc of the original” “ oh you just wanted a shot for shot remake” “oh you just wanted to hate it from the beginning” etc. anyone (even if they enjoyed the show) who has done any amount of literary analysis and studying of storytelling can say immediately recognize that the writing, dialogue and storytelling overall is of a very low quality. Even one the most basic rules of “show don’t tell” was completely inverted in this show
these guys are straight up a bunch of bots. You want to show them your perspective and they have no empathy. I do want to say tho that we cant really force them to not like something they enjoyed haha@@yomamma.ismydaddy216
only thing i kinda had a problem with was that katara was a little introverted in the live-action(could just be me), i dont really know what made katara look like a boss-lady type social person. overall, she just doesn't have that attitude in the live-action. that's literally the only problem i have with the live-action.
I feel like it shoots its shots too early. I liked the funeral scene with Iroh but i cant help but think it will lessen the impact of Tales of Ba Singse. That whole thing with his son had almost 2 whole seasons to build. Exposition is also a problem and its like.. are they worried we will not get the meaning if they dont spell it out? That being said, there were things to like. My absolute fave was how they handled Zhao. The actor was made for that role and i couldnt help kinda rooting for him. Sad that they made his death scene worse, i feel like him refusing Zuko’s help matches him too much.
honestly? I politely disagree With live action remake and all , i never really watched the movie because i knew it was bad and i knew i wouldn't like it , but with the avatar remake series.. it just kinda felt hollow idc if they changed some aspects around , i think thats more then ok for a remake but i feel like the charm of the characters that drew me into the series is just not there , the acting is good but i mostly talk about the writing and dialog , like the episode one info dump by gran gran that was literally out of now where caught me off so hard. and also they made my boy sokka boring , i love that fella so ye , definitely not my cup of tea ,as i always care about the characters more then the visuals or the story
I agree with all you said in this video. Loved the production value it has on costume design, bending and special effects. My main issue is exactly what you said, while I liked how they put together the Omashu episodes and Jet & the mechanic, the mix of the spirit world etc felt a bit wacky at times. I also didnt like Katara's acting, it felt like she didnt have blood on her veins and she its too "uwu" sometimes or is kinda expressionless. Completely loved everything about Zuko & Iroh and all the flashbacks. People are complaining about Zuko fighting against Ozai and having Ozai manipulate Azula so "upfront" but tbh I think it adds more to her backstory and everything. Same here with Aangs and his previous Air bender master, really liked these addittions as well. Also OZAI IS GREAT. I loved the acotr Daniel Dae Kim FOR YEARS and the moment I saw him as Ozai, my god I was SO HAPPY. He is PERFECT for the role and nails it. I really hope it gets renewed and they give the series one or two extra episodes so it doesnt feel that rushed. I think they really needed to add the part of Katara & Aang training the waterbending and also the episode where Aang encounters a fire bender who can teach himbut he ends up not being that serious about it/hurts kKatara and then he says "I wont use fire bending anymore".
To me the issue is that it was _always_ guaranteed to be inferior to the original, and I'm just sick of people treating animation as some kind of "inferior" art form. I'm glad that the creators of the live action seem to actually have some genuine respect towards the original, but I just really dislike that they felt the need to change things up like Sokka's short sexism arc (apparently teaching lessons _against_ sexism is sexist). I also don't know how I feel about them showing us a genocide for the purpose of an action set piece... Like, shouldn't a genocide be SAD, not exciting??? It was darker, but didn't have that same feeling. The original treated the concept of war and genocide with much more seriousness... Which is ironic, because the remake is supposed to be more "adult" (which, again, it really bothers me that people treat animation as for kids only, as if the show isn't loved by adults all over the world). Its also simultaneously rushed and slowed down, despite the run time being very close to the original. The way they handled it kinda hurt the pacing.
By showing genocide, the writers tough they are being mature. But in reality it is the opposite and makes them look like edgy. They said they wanted to appeal to game of thrones viwers. But the very best 1-4 seasons of GOT, they showed us one battle and in those seasons we are always shown the consuquences of the battle. What made it what it is is the writing. So if u cant back those mature content with writing, u look like an edgy teenager. In the OG, the consequences were much more impactfull. So they lost the point.
Despite i haven't seen it, i would want to see a prequal series before aang met katara, his life before the iceberg, meeting boomi, and life in the airnomads. Would that be better?
Since this is an adaptation, I want one thing. Sokka deserves a happy ending with Suki. In the timeline of the cartoon, Suki died young after the war and Sokka died alone. She was truly his one and only. So, now’s the time to give him his happy ending. Plus, the chemistry between Ian Ousley and Maria Zhang is just incredible!👍🏻 I loved seeing them on-screen together and I wanna see more, especially after Yue’s death, with how traumatized he was by book 2 in the og cartoon. But, we all know how things turn out in the end.
I’m with you. It wasn’t perfection, but I was also bloody AWESOME!!!! If we don’t get a second and third season (well BookTwo and Nook Three) I’m gonna be crushed.
This version of the show seems very like it was very rushed, with everything, and very out of order!!, and the makeup and costumes didn’t seem top-shelf, I mean they're outside nearly allll the TIME!, and the costumes looked like they came out fresh, and dry cleaned every time there worn!; no grung or wrinkles or tears nothing!, and some other stuff that seemed too much, or overbearing in the face..., and with the makeup was was meh but, like especially with Zuko's scar just looks like a giant blush spot instead of a scar but whatever.
Somebody put it really nicely before in their reaction video. The live action has Great additions, bad changes. The things they expanded on and added to. Gave the core arcs more depth? Fantastic! Everything I wanted from a possible live action! Some changes they made to change the core of their personalities and stories? (not talking about sexism, I don’t see the big deal of it not being there so we’ll agree to disagree) but Aang and Katara feeling empty? All the adults in this except Iroh blatantly SUCKING A**? I know what they were aiming for, it’s like those teen dystopias, the adults can’t be trusted yada yada- but the lessons they give to Aang: how he has to do it alone- aside from being a bad lesson is also said by every past avatar we meet and I got sick of it- he’s not gonna listen to their jaded af opinions, especially after Bumis arc here where Aang proved HIM wrong about having to make decisions alone. Aangs a pacifist. That’s why he’s hesitating to take the offensive in the war, but I wish he tried out other bending types and had a similar emotional block as Katara because being taught only by Gyatso was his last ditch effort at holding onto his past cz he’s scared of change CZ ITS BEEN 100 YEARS AND EVERYONE HE KNEW IS DEAD OR JADED AF! I mean it would’ve made sense if him not wanting MORE change because he’s already terrified, so not waterbending is keeping up pretense at being normal. (In that respect I understand Kyoshi and Kuruk yelling at him to step up and put aside his own feelings, but blaming him for not being there before was so childish coming from the so called wise figures were supposed to learn from..) It would explain why he doesn’t attempt to waterbed at all despite being yelled at about it by literally everyone 😅 Overall I think what I was a little disappointed by was that they handled the main protagonists carelessly and it shows. They really favored Zuko and iroh in this show and I get it, but it felt like a love child of s1 and s3
I really liked it. At first I was confused with how the story was all kinda mixed up and new events were thrown in like how Iroh and Zuko went to Omashu, or why Jet and the Mechanist were there too (in which they never did in the animated show) and a whole lot more. But it did kinda make sense to the point where I’m not too upset about it. All the graphics, bending, and CGI were amazing. The martial arts was actually pretty impressive. And all the events did end up leading to another that happened in the animated show. Except, why they didn’t show Master Jeong Jeong. I’ve no clue because that’s where that led Aang to being afraid to firebend. I’ll give it a 7 out of 10. Still A LOT better than the 2010 M. Night Shamalan movie.
The adaption is fine, but has many problems. The first problem being that it wields exposition like a weapon. We did not need to be reminded that Aang was the Avatar as many times as we were. We did not need to be reminded that Katara was a Waterbender as many times as we were. For example; They changed the scene in the downed Fire Nation ship from Aang and Katara doing something they weren't supposed to be doing and drawing Zuko to the village to Aang yelling out "YoU cAn WaTeRBeND?!" and Katara going "Ye." The second problem is the strange changes; Like the downed Fire Nation ship going from a looming, trap filled, reminder of a genocide on the Southern Water Tribe to the place Katara can secretly practice Waterbending. In this version, Zuko has no real reason to think the Avatar with the Tribe. The light from bubble Aang was in gives him /The South Pole/, but it was Aang and Katara setting off a trap in the ship that gives Zuko actual visual confirmation. Also, Zuko looking for "the one who doesn't belong" was weird to me. That was where the original revealed that Aang was the Avatar, so I guess they had to change that, as we already knew Aang was the Avatar from the Monks using the exposition cudgel. I would bet that this show will be forgotten after its finished. People will enjoy it for now, but in ten years, it will be left with the Shyamalan movie. An adaption that exists.
Also for Bumi and the other adults, I think it makes sense how jaded they are. They’ve probably spent their whole lives wishing the avatar would show up
"They’ve probably spent their whole lives wishing the avatar would show up" In the universe content isnot this make no sense. In th OG it make sense. Cuz Aang run away and fire nation didnt attack immidietaly so air nomads could start searching for avatar and let earth and water tribe to know that avatar is missing. Not fire nation and we know why. So they searched everywhere and couldnt find him and while they are searching, air nomads are killed so they could not find him. But there could be hope. In netflix, Aang learned he is the avatar and that SAME night fire nation attacked and killed them all. Did any of the other nation knew avatar appeared in the air nomads in the netflix? So other nations could look for the next avatar in the water tribe. But in 50 or so years there is no sign of it and they should think that avatar cycle is broken. So they should lose all hope for the avatar returning. That small and look insignificant change cause this to happen. Also everyone should be surprise Aang's child like apperance since 100 years passed but he is still a child. If we want to make it for adult aduinces.
The show was great even for its little nitpicks here and there. But even then I absolutely loved it that after watching it I finally watched the original cartoon and barely finished it today, and I have to say I'm very much wanting to see a second season for this show and hope it continues to get bigger and better.
I love this new adaptation. Yes, some things were rushed like the story and i do think they should have had at least 10 episodes but i love and appreciate the changes. it isn’t a copy and paste, it adds more layers and new emotions. I love how we truly see how destructive The War is. The live action does better in my opinion showing The War and how many ppl have died. The Siege was amazing, the darkness and reality
I definitely thought they were setting up aang to get possessed by each Avatar like we get kyoshi, roku and maybe yang chen next season i couldn't believe they skipped tge roku fight😂
It's pretty good. The pace is rushed, but my biggest issue is the handling of sexism. I was fine with removing it for Sokka (fight me), and keeping it for the NWT was a surprise, but it created a nice distinction between the tribes. But! There's no lore to explain why this exists, and given Kuruk is the last water tribe avatar, it'd make more sense for sexism to be a recent thing, and for the sexism to either come about from Ummi (who could be a bender here) falling to Koh, OR making the tribe sexist against men since Kuruk after his spiritual trauma, with the tribes believing only women were emotionally/spiritually adept to be combat benders.
I've seen 4 episodes so far and maybe it's because I haven't seen the original in so many years but I definitely agree with pretty much all the points in this video. I also feel like Sokka and Katara annoyed me a lot in the original so in contrast to some, I'm actually glad they toned down their characters to someplace more grounded in this version.
It’s good and people are overly hating on it . I was cautious about it and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by how good it was . Some things I didn’t really care for and a lot of things I did . Overall it was a good adaptation. And the cgi , choreography, and acting was good . I will say I wish they showed Aang actually water bending but oh well 😅.
I don't usually comment before I watch a video but I felt it necessary to say that the title of a video has never made me so angry in my life. I try to maintain an open mind though so I will probably leave a reply to this comment.
We have the exact same take on the acting but that is irrelevant to me. The acting is also terrible so it doesn't really support the point of the show being good. The visuals are amazing and that's why I want them to keep making it. The score is also good. The flashbacks are done horribly I have no idea why people keep praising that specific aspect of the show, the flashbacks are often immature and pointless. I did like the one with zukos agni kai a lot more than the original show if I remember correctly though. Also I hate your take on iroh they ruined that character entirely, he is supposed to be deceptively enlightened, it doesn't make sense to make him so outwardly strong and serious verbally. I think you need to unpack the whole arc between zuko and azula in the original more if you think azula is done even remotely well. Honestly they should've renamed get because she is nothing like the original character, and the intimidation factor of her is entirely told and not shown and it genuinely made me want to throw up. They did azula so dirty and I do have an open mind about it, they can still fix her, but if they are capable of fixing her then they have to know that nobody is going to like her in the first season and it demonstrates an immense lack of understanding on your part for not understanding that. If that didn't make sense, the point is -she might age well when more seasons come out and it's possible that it works even better than the original show, but based off of this season alone, she was executed absolutely horribly. I'm glad you talked about the sokka katara arc because that's a very important part of the discourse. I don't think you saw through the societal causes of the changes with this as I did (not saying I'm smarter I just have a different perspective). Everything between them that changed was a product of trying to avoid weird political "discourse", even though the show is meant to be more mature. They removed sokkas sexism to not get in trouble. This waters down his arc because they kept it very similar just replacing it with insecurity and weakness, but even more so, it waters down katara entirely, because they didn't replace her strong opposition to interpersonal issues like sexism and rudeness with anything, they just removed her personality and replaced it with PTSD. This is disgusting to me because she was one of my favorite characters and they basically lobotomized her and made her way more powerful. She went from chill and funny Hermione to even more boring Rey from star wars. It makes me so sad really. I'm honestly surprised by your take on boomy considering your dogshit take on iroh because mind you boomy is a king, so the way he acts does make sense. The plot of that episode is just complete dogshit. Aang shouldn't be able to fly because only one person has ever done that. I agree that I liked seeing people get burnt to death. To me the explaination is obvious, they only had 8 episodes and they tried really hard to not make anyone angry by cutting stuff but instead they just butchered every aspect of the show.
Thank you! I am really glad to see someone not hating on the live action show because everybody else does it. Most of the time when I watch your reviews, you opinions are the opposite of mine and I find you rather harsh. But this time we are one the same level. I really like the live action show and I think that the way they fused some plots together in one episode is clever. They don't have the amount of seasons and episodes the original has so this is the perfect way to show the best plots of the series. And the costumes look amazing! Maybe a bit to clean but they look like the show versions but also realistic enough to be seen as actually styles. And I loooove the sets, the world the building everything looks so good! ❤ Thank you for making this video ❤ seriously, the show deserves all the love it can get
All the CG in Kuruk scenes were an an unpleasant case of uncanny valley, that's what really bothered me about this. Not the occasional "that's not a real person" switches in bending stuff, not the character rearrangements that happened, not converging plotlines. They did Kuruk so dirty. Something about the blue colors they settled on for the wispy past-life-communication space was not doing a very good job of blending the CG elements with the live action. I didn't take too much note when it was Roku at first viewing, even it was the same quality because the reds they used were doing their whole job and not just half of it. Kyoshi was legit just in a foggy forest so no complaints there. What'd Kuruk do to earn being an errie machine?
I didnt have high hopes when i begin series but I really enjoyed it & I don't know why it's getting so much hate. The cast our young actors so people shouldn't have expected 10 /10 actoring and people keep comparing to animated show. I like the individual actoring except zuko. Watching zuko gave me anxiety bc he felt so much like a spoiled teenager and it's funny. Azula voice could be sharper but I like her still
I read that Avatar had like 21 million views, which is higher than One Piece which already is in production for season 2. I really loved this live action take, and while they did cut some things, i dont think they were necessary to the show. I feel like a lot of people who dont like the show only want a recreation without any changes from the animated series.
I'm still only on the first episode but honestly I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The changes seemed minor and more made so the show stands on it's own and not to try and water it down. Even the fact Aang can just about fly here (which mind you the reason people are complaining is cuz it flies in the face of the lore established about airbenders and flight technically making it the most miniscule yet most blatant change hence why it's ruffled a lot of people) is my biggest gripe so far but still not enough to hate on it. So honestly I think this'll be a good show that stands alone but has more nostalgic power if you've watched the original. Which ultimately I feel should be the goal of remakes, good standalones if you've never watched the original, just with something to make those who have nostalgic
The live action obviously has its flaws, which is a given, but what it does good, it excels in. The visuals, bending, fight scenes, colors and heart of the show is all there
I didn't love the live action show. However, the original show made my childhood and is still my favorite show of all time. So, needless to say, i have pretty high expectations about the material 🩵🩵
1:16 well luckily for us, Avatar Studios IS coming out with some new animated content 😁 I'm glad you liked the live action show. I went in with an open mind and I can understand why people do like it, but personally I didnt enjoy it.
Hm, I see, fair points and opinions, it’s good to know that it ended up turning out alright. Now, i wonder what we could expect next? What would you like to see?
Imo it was decent, but not great. Definitely better than the last adaptation, though that bar was so low it's not even an accomplishment. I'd say it's a solid 7/10. My biggest criticism is that some changes felt....a bit random? nothing that I'd say that would 'ruin the show' but seem to have no reason for having been changed/introduced other than for the sake of being different from the cartoon. For example, that Aang can fly without his kite, or than instead of running away, he just got lost in a storm, or that Yue is secretly a furry. As I said, nothing that really breaks the show but just left me with a feeling of "....why?"
Its better when you view it as a love letter to the original show rather than a direct adaptation.
Exactly
Yeah it’s not meant to be the exact same. That would be boring.
Still good
17:32 they rlly made Sokka a philanderer?
Personally, I really liked it. I really want to see season 2, especially Toph and | absolutely loved what. they did with Zuko and lroh. Their whole backstory and the 41st division, gosh, just amazing. I'm certain they can improve in future seasons if it gets renewed. You can tell that everyone who worked on this love the original show
"Everything I need is on this boat." The Zuko and Iroh scenes were so good! This show hit hard in the emotions.
I'm actually a big big fan of the way the agni Kai between ozai and zuko went. They mashed the og with the agni Kai against Zhao where zuko shows him mercy. Tickled my brain just right.
I didn’t notice the reference to the Zhao Agni Kai, that’s cool.
It is good, but I hate how they change some things like Sokka's subplot which allowed him to develop into a respectable man
And Katara being a compassionate motherly figure is a good thing too because she is the hopeful one out of the gang to omit or forget this part of her is not alright
Totally agree
@@whiteeaglehapkido Thanks
Yea they do that smh
Sokka’s subplot change had no impact on his growth, they did really well taking the sexist subplot and turning it into him being insecure as a “warrior” and how he can move to accept that he has other things he’s good at that make him a good leader. Katara was gutted as a charecter so far though
i dont like how they fully changed some characters personalities, but people sh1tting on the casting and making fun of how its written upsets me. yeah, at some points they could do a lot better but honestly i loved it. cant wait for the next season, i just know its gonna be top tier
I hope season 2 has 10-13 episodes instead of 8 again
I’m 50/50 on it but some people are absolutely overreacting you can tell it’s made by people who absolutely care about the source material but feel a little embarrassed about it at the same time
Perfect description of the ATLA live action
Oh so they cared for Source material and the OG creators didn't like the "care" that is why they left the production
Completely agree 🩵🩵
THANK YOU, I HAVE SEEN SO MANY HATE COMMENTS
My overall problems with the live action are that they make some changes that don't really work out well. Like, I'm not asking them to make a shot for shot recreation, but if they are going to make changes, at least make it help improve the story, not make it weaker.
One of the feel being weird about it it's how ironically the live action doesn't feel this much alive (details such as emotion in the eyes, clothes always clean even tho they fight in the muds...)
But the visual effects are very good
because animation is the GOAT
yeah its a shame they seemed to put so much money into the costumes on the surface but didn't bother to wear them a little with dirt or tiny tears.
SHOW ME!!
yes, agreed. I think they toned it down over time but that first episode was especially rough for lengthy exposition
@@wildfireamvI can see that being young might cause an issue but i think it has to do with the directions they’re given like the director should’ve seen that they needed to push for more emotion
what's wrong with goofy??
@@yomamma.ismydaddy216 I disagree. I think lots of people are upset that it's not a %100 copy of the original.
Both added some new scenes I really loved for the emotional impact but all in all I'm not hyped about rewatching either.
i think the avatar one was a bit worse tho
percy jackson one had 8 on average and some 9's avatar had one terrible one (the spirit hei bai one) and fluctuating others, it didn't understand the source material as well, and had a lot of terrible changes
For the last millionth time.... Aang wasn't flying in that scene
@@KaypainBeatsYeah, it just seems that way because it is harder to see the air bending in live action.
@@KaypainBeats I’m sorry. He was falling with style!
I think with Korra flying is seen as absolute detachment which Aang obviously still has with his fellow Air Nomads and I guess his childhood.
@@zjzr08yeah that’s what I’ve been saying! Then all the air benders (or at least the masters) would have the ability to “fly” but don’t
Yeah, the Ozai and Azula changes were my favorite moments to come out of this live action
I binged it all in a night and it was flawed but enjoyable!
I loved the first episode. I thought it was great. I wished they had a bigger budget and did at least 10 or 12 episodes instead of just 8.
The 1st episode was horrible. 1st and 2nd episodes are the worst out of the other horrible episodes. There’s spectacular moments and beautiful visuals…. But that’s it. It’s empty. The actors don’t sell it or make me feel ANYTHING.
Me too I kinda disappointed that season 1 has 8 episodes instead of 12
All of the casting is perfect and the acting is good too? Only person that could be improved is azula she lacks the scary points in her but other than that I enjoyed it and it’s a great improvement from the horrendous 2010 movie. And I think the story is like the original but they changed a few things and I like it
0:29 I like to see those for the dragon ball and Ben 10 live actions
She literally said I’m sorry 😶😐
man i dont get it the reviewers who are mwant to be heard arent and the one ones who arent are which is crazy as a fan i loved it too but crazt how reviewers were just bashing it so bad but it was so good and we need people who arent following a trend
thank God someone says it at last .
I really liked it. It excelled at emotional delivery.
@@yomamma.ismydaddy216 yeah that’s what i wanted too!! Something that adds to the show it was just such a missed opportunity
Wait for a free day so i can binge this whole thing.
Keep your hopes LOW. It’s not great.
It's great. This gives me chills. Nostalgic.
I am glad I am not the only one who loved the changes in Ozai
Interesting how the reaction to this show is mixed.
Idk how it’s “mixed”!!! Lmfao it’s TRASH and I’m shocked that we (the og fans) haven’t come to that collective conclusion!! 😅 it’s trash. Nothing mixed in my corner.
@@IAmPhoenixXxXxNo it's not trash 🗑️
I really like the show, and I like a lot of the character changes, at least enough to see how they play out in later seasons. Solid 8/10. I think I would have given the original cartoon 8/10 when I saw the first season too. The amount of negativity toward this show is a little overwhelming though. I’ve skimmed hundreds of comments and only found a handful that were positive. So here are my defenses:
-I think there is a guiding principle behind the character changes: greater emotional realism.
Thank you for say that. It’s amazing with great visual effects
The only portrayal I did not like was Roku. Everything was OK to Very Good.
I liked it a lot too and this coming from someone who grew up with the series since it first premiered. I agree with most of your points.
Eveyone that doesn’t like it or is “50/50” on it just can’t accept/ appreciate change it has amazing visuals, character arch and development, and the CGI is on par with a lot of big movies atm

I very much appreciate your opinion on that series. Helps to sort my mind. Well done, keep up the good work.
And since sokka's sexism arc has been covered enough i wont repeat it but they replaced that storyline with something much more sexist???????? suki literally said that sokka just existing made her life better like what??? they also turned her into a creep ew
these guys just speak what they hear they don't even listen @@UnknownUser-mj8rg

Good series overall, but live action Aang is such a brat
seen ep.1 so far. and while that exposition Gran Gran gave to everyone killed me, the episode was still good.
only thing i kinda had a problem with was that katara was a little introverted in the live-action(could just be me), i dont really know what made katara look like a boss-lady type social person. overall, she just doesn't have that attitude in the live-action. that's literally the only problem i have with the live-action.
Sad that they made his death scene worse, i feel like him refusing Zuko’s help matches him too much.
honestly? I politely disagree
With live action remake and all , i never really watched the movie because i knew it was bad and i knew i wouldn't like it , but with the avatar remake series.. it just kinda felt hollow
idc if they changed some aspects around , i think thats more then ok for a remake but i feel like the charm of the characters that drew me into the series is just not there , the acting is good but i mostly talk about the writing and dialog , like the episode one info dump by gran gran that was literally out of now where caught me off so hard.
and also they made my boy sokka boring , i love that fella
so ye , definitely not my cup of tea ,as i always care about the characters more then the visuals or the story
Little soldier boy nearly made me break my toxic masculinity.
That scene was terrible

Despite i haven't seen it, i would want to see a prequal series before aang met katara, his life before the iceberg, meeting boomi, and life in the airnomads. Would that be better?
Finally got around to watching it.
7.5/10
Better than I expected.
Finally somebody actually get it someone actually understands how great this show is
Since this is an adaptation, I want one thing.
Damn I guess dumbing it down worked bc everyone seemed to like it 🤦♀️
I loved it! I didn’t need it to be the same as the cartoon it was so much fun :))
Dude my Internet died too I totally had to wait to watch the show and keep away from spoilers.
I learned that the original creators left because they wanted to change to story completely, while Netflix wanted to keep the Spirit of the cartoon.😊
I loved it overall and I really want a season 2.
If they filmed episode by episode, that changes my whole perspective
(In that respect I understand Kyoshi and Kuruk yelling at him to step up and put aside his own feelings, but blaming him for not being there before was so childish coming from the so called wise figures were supposed to learn from..)
It would explain why he doesn’t attempt to waterbed at all despite being yelled at about it by literally everyone 😅
Overall I think what I was a little disappointed by was that they handled the main protagonists carelessly and it shows. They really favored Zuko and iroh in this show and I get it, but it felt like a love child of s1 and s3
Have you ever compared "The Untamed" to "Mo Dao Zu Shi"?
I see this version as a different iteration, it has problems but it's not the worst thing I've seen. I'm optimistic to see where this goes.
Im very glad to see someone that isnt spewing negativity! Its like all these video creators were planning on hating it no matter what
I agree, but I also see some weaknesses. Still I was fantasticly entertained and hope for a much better season 2.
10:13 i saw only clip and in recap to next episode and in a way made me tear bend by goosebumps
The adaption is fine, but has many problems.
The first problem being that it wields exposition like a weapon.
We did not need to be reminded that Aang was the Avatar as many times as we were. We did not need to be reminded that Katara was a Waterbender as many times as we were.
For example; They changed the scene in the downed Fire Nation ship from Aang and Katara doing something they weren't supposed to be doing and drawing Zuko to the village to Aang yelling out "YoU cAn WaTeRBeND?!" and Katara going "Ye."
The second problem is the strange changes; Like the downed Fire Nation ship going from a looming, trap filled, reminder of a genocide on the Southern Water Tribe to the place Katara can secretly practice Waterbending.
Ozai and Zhao are 3 dimensional in live action. In the cartoon Ozai was just evil and Zhao boring.,,
Also for Bumi and the other adults, I think it makes sense how jaded they are. They’ve probably spent their whole lives wishing the avatar would show up
"They’ve probably spent their whole lives wishing the avatar would show up"
In the universe content isnot this make no sense.
The writing is really sloppy and unprofessional. That's the worst part about the live-action.
Uncle iroh’s and zuko’s actors killed it
I don't usually comment before I watch a video but I felt it necessary to say that the title of a video has never made me so angry in my life.
Thank you for making this video ❤ seriously, the show deserves all the love it can get
All the CG in Kuruk scenes were an an unpleasant case of uncanny valley, that's what really bothered me about this.
The visuals, bending, fight scenes, colors and heart of the show is all there
I was pleasantly surprised by the Netflix Avatar remake too. It’s not perfect but pretty amazing overall. ❤
I didn't love the live action show. However, the original show made my childhood and is still my favorite show of all time. So, needless to say, i have pretty high expectations about the material 🩵🩵
1:16 well luckily for us, Avatar Studios IS coming out with some new animated content 😁
I'm glad you liked the live action show. I went in with an open mind and I can understand why people do like it, but personally I didnt enjoy it.
0:20 it is to me, if done well
Hm, I see, fair points and opinions, it’s good to know that it ended up turning out alright.
Now, i wonder what we could expect next?
What would you like to see?
*As someone on Chernobyl once said “Not great, not terrible”.*
