PrincessLucki you don’t have to be good at calligraphy to penpal :) the only thing that matters is the letter, but remember everything looks better with a little bit of effort put into it :D

I'm in love with the way you decorate your letters. When I was around 15-17 I had penpals who I met from the long forgotten LiveJournal and it was amazing, I remember the excitement and how happy and relaxed I was. In 1969 I was in the United States Marine Corps. I was several thousand miles from home and people trying their best to kill me. I was 18 years old and homesick. The most valuable and cherished thing was to receive mail. I was engaged to my High School sweetheart who was waiting back home... I looked forward to her letters because it connected me with home.There were times when we could call home by using a MARS radio. All of a sudden the letters quit coming. At first I just thought our mail just slow getting to us. When the other men in my unit got mail I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t getting my mail. One day as luck would have it I ran into an old friend from where I live. I asked him if my girlfriend back in the world was alright. He was quiet for a few seconds and then he said you don’t know do you? I asked him what he was talking about. He said awe shit I really hate to tell you but your girlfriend back home got married. Talk about hit with a hammer. I was stunned! That was why Cindy (my girlfriend) quit writing and when I call her parents said she was out with friends. I was heartbroken
and extremely depressed. That’s a dangerous combination when someone is trying to kill you. The next week I was feeling sorry for myself and when they dropped the mail to us I didn’t even bother to go to mail call. After the mail was given out I was laying on my cot when one of my friends came to me and handed me a package. I asked what it was and my buddy said he didn’t have a clue. The box itself looked like a shoebox. It was addressed to me: Sergeant Michael Melton, 5th Marines, FPO (Fleet Post Office) San Francisco, CA.. The return address was Leeds, United Kingdom. I took the wrapping off opened the shoebox. I was stunned! There were at least 100 note cards and letters from school children. I can’t explain how extremely humble and thankful I felt at that time. The cards and letters from people in the U.K. that I had never met restored my faith in people. Those letters and cards saved my life. I know that’s a long story but I just wanted you to know how much I love the U.K. and will always be eternally grateful. I learned that there are people who have a huge capacity for loving others. I served in the Military for 27 years and have done a little traveling. In 2013 my wife and I took a trip to the U.K. and it was even better than I had hoped. Over the years I lost the box of letters. However, I will always be a citizen of the U.K. in my heart and will never forget the kindness extended to me over 50 years ago. PEACE & BLESSINGS Mike

There's no need at all to add so many things and decorate so much! The point of writing is still the same, to communicate. I know that I'd be overjoyed to recieve a simple letter

There are many styles of pen paling. Not only the over-the-top filled with things letter. There’s always a style you can find!! [like minimalist - blank or maybe solid soft colored paper, for questions you can just use a sticky note mail tags for a touch of fun or write the questions in the letter. As for extras - they’re extra. You don’t have to include them! They’re optional! Don’t feel pressured to give them! And, If You’re not interested in this kind of style, you can do the old-school, but with a fun touch ~my style, but i actually do a bit more, idk If You’re interested in my made up style~ the old school is basically a blank sheet or a lined/dotted/or whatever notebook (like or the actual thing) paper which is the letter, it has everything in it (letter, questions, playlist or smthng), but the envelope is made by you. Simple yet so effective. You still need normal envelopes for protection of the fancy (or not) envelope you made yourself! For extras - maybe a couple of stickers or a candy? Or a picture, drawing, whatever! The slightest touches are the best!]

I love writing letters but I feel like nowadays with this whole penpal movement there is so much pressure. Of course I make my letters look nice and I might send someone a little present sometime, but I feel like now it is expected to follow a certain protocol rather than finding people all over the world:/

I had a penpal who oknt talked to me because of the free stationary and stickers and it made me feel like I was being used. She admitted it herself after a few months of penpaling. The only reason she admitted was because she said my stationary were getting boring. 😭

I'm currently not looking for a penpal yet but I wanted to say that you can download this app Amino (if you don't already have it) and get into a penpalling community. Just simply make a post about your interests and whatever you want them to know (not your address yet) and that's it! Pen pal seems good for shy people because you don't have to worry about knowing what you want to say at the same time because you can take a couple days to make a reply. Sorry if this wasn't very helpful, but I still hope I helped.

You can create any way you like. I love Kikki.k products but if you’re not in Australia just start at your local dollar store 😊
It’s ok if you don’t have all that extra stuff, the actual letter is the most important part and the rest is just for fun and isn’t necessary

I’ve once learned about pen pals when I was little and is in the 2nd grade, I became pen pals with an American, her name is Nellie. I even took my letter then put it in post, it took 7 days to send that letter! (I’m Australian though)

I’ve seen people saying there parents won’t let them and ya know , I’m also not aloud to do pen pals from around other people but if your not aloud maybe do it with your neighbour , friends or even cousins I know this isn’t pen paling but I think it’s quite fun ( I do it with my neighbour )

I love this but I’d be afraid to give them my address. What if it was some creep only doing it so they can come to my house and kill me or something 😅
Once covid is over I might see if there is one that allows me to just ship it to my postal office and go pick it up
You're local post office has a post office box that is private and that way nobody has you're physical address for safety purposes. I don't blame you at all. I wouldn't give a physical address at all. A post office box may cost you money, but a much safer route if you want a pen pal the safe way for sure.

I always use my PO Box address! I’m not sure about costs in other places, but in my town it’s only $60-$65 a year for a PO Box.

I remember having a pen pal as a kid and i was just looking this up tonight because of the quarantine and all. maybe open a p.o. box, then u won't have to give out your address! also I love star stable :D
Go to you're local post office and get a p.o. box and have you're mail sent there so you can check it , that way you don't ever haft to give out you're physical address to be safe.

Thank you xx I can't wait to see what creative ideas you come up with. Wrapping a bit of washi up is just a way you can share some of your favourite tapes with your penpals without sending them the whole roll. :)
people like to decorate things such as kpop journals with washi tape (picked this example bc i see yoongi in your icon) and this allows people to trade small bits and decorate your journal in a range of different ways

I really love penpalling the idea of it. I mean I haven't done it since I was in primary but I like to travel a lot and so that would stop me from being able to write consecutively, if I was to start penpalling which I feel is unfair cause these days when you penpal it's like every month or at least that's what I've heard so it would be unfair on the person 🥺 sad times

Go to you're local churches and places and sometimes they donate supplies in you're area were you live. I'm not sure we're you're from? USA America here.

You keep what they send like stationary and stuff and then you can send some of your own to them.
