Kurt's voice could not have been more perfect for this beautifully melancholic song. I really think this is the direction he was eventually headed. To think of all the music this world missed out on.
I think he wanted to venture into more acoustic music and also maybe mixed with new wave because he loved that style. He was talking to Michael Stipe of REM about doing music together so imagine what that could have been.... so much music we missed out on.... but we do have what we have so....
He said in an interview he was interested in pursuing more of a singer-songwriter avenue in the future, so I think this mtv unplungged was a preview for what may have been :(
Wasn't a huge fan of these few covers when I was younger, but as I've gotten older they've become my favorite songs from the performance. After listening to the OG version, I realized Kurt knew what he was doing choosing to cover these songs, his voice is absolutely perfect for them! Breathed new life into some underappreciated gems that went unnoticed by most.

27 yrs later I still can’t watch without crying. As a huge nirvana fan and a 19 yr old this album had just came out. Nirvana was the band that introduced me to alternative rock they changed the way I thought, dressed, and acted. For me time is measured in before kurts death and after .today taylor Hawkins died it brought me back to April 1994. I thought of Dave and how crushed he must be to hear a friend and band mate was dead again.
I feel this completely. Same. This is hands down my favorite album of all time...and I, too, measure time as ,"before Kurt died" and "after Kurt died".

Funny how all the old grunge guys are dead, all but satanist grohl and confessed satanist Eddie vedder. And before you start Kurt was never friends with grohl, he couldn't stand the man. And oh yeah, grohl the sympathy whore also lost his mother. How on earth will a middle aged millionaire cope with such a loss.. I'm guessing the same way I did minus the money. Grohl is the biggest phoney in the music business. I'd do a a little research on him before you put him on a pedestal. He's a fake and a terrible actor. Don't bother reading the early books after Kurt's death..instead watch the documentary the PI Courtney Love hired to provide her with an alibi. But being an ex cop he smelled something wasn't right. And he actually did his job properly proving that almost certainly Love had him murdered, he knows who pulled the trigger and why. I'm guessing they haven't shown that documentary stateside considering how many Americans still buy the official story despite the events in the inquest are physically impossible. Plus if you bought a gun with the sole purpose of killing yourself would you buy a .22, designed to kill rats! And it was very responsible of Kurt to shoot himself in the head and still put the lid back on the needle and put his used works in his little safe box. But the best bit of all was when courtney (when I grow up I want to be able to read) Love actually read the last part of his very convincing suicide letter and she expects ppl to believe one of the most talented and original artists of the 90s would finish a suicide note with the most corny cliche of all time... 'its better to burn out than to fade away'... the most unoriginal, cringe, totally, un-kurt like words even spoken.
I watched this at 1995, when I was only 12 years old. The concert gave me and still give chills !!! Unbelievable ! One of the greatest performances in history, for sure !
I don’t know why, but this song has been like a close friend throughout my life, 39 now. This song over all others I’ve heard, has a way of relaxing me, pulling me out of darkness (in my mind), even has pulled me out of hate filled rages, gently bringing me back to the here and now, calmed.
I just turned 30 in March... unfortunately I didn't have pleasure and pure rawness of seeing Nirvana Unplugged Live nor at all. I listen and watch Oh me every night before I go to sleep. It calms me down and helps me sleep. I'm always tired but I just can't sleep most nights. Love this version ❤️

it's so cool to see actually Kurt focusing and trying not to screw up, and look nervous!! because usually he has this carefree IDGAF look when he plays, not caring if he screws up or anything.. but I think he actually put in a lot of effort, for respect of the Meat Puppets

You can hear that Cobain was really happy to sing that one, the excitement and fulfilment in his voice at the beginning just makes me so happy for him.

@@andreaschlapek780 Not really. Kurt didn't like pearl jams style of music. It wasn't a big deal in fact no one ever talked about that. I've never heard anything about a major disappointment and I'm from Seattle. It would of been a weird combo.
He sang other people's lyrics much clearer, maybe because they were not his feelings. He seemed to blur his own lyrics when he sang them, maybe because they were very raw and hit him hard, I don't know but he always seemed to be a little apprehensive about sharing such deep emotions of his own, seemed he couldn't do anything else though because he felt everything on such a deep level. But that's what gave us the poetry. Miss him still. Thanks for giving Gen X a voice Kurt, we were all a bit sick and tired of the baggage we inherited and the world's injustices too.
Kurt passed six years before I was born, but thanks to my dad being a big Nirvana fan, I can appreciate the amazing music they made. Kurt's voice in this whole show just makes my soul happy. It's inspired me to get back in to playing guitar

I honestly feel the three Meat Puppets covers on Unplugged benefitted so much from Kurt having Curt Kirkwood there handling the guitar parts. Kurt so rarely ever played songs while not playing guitar and in this one we not only get amazing vocal performances from Kurt but we also get the guitar parts played brilliantly by the original songwriter. It's just great.
This is my favorite Nirvana song.. and it’s a Meat Puppets cover. I absolutely love this song! ❤ I went to a local record store when this album came out in 1994 and bought it as a cassette tape. I’d sit for hours at a time, listening to the songs so I could play my guitar and sing along with them. This was one of my favorite songs to play and sing, not only on guitar but also on a mini keyboard. My kids all grew up listening to Nirvana and grunge, thanks to me. (I also got them into classic rock like Zeppelin, the Beatles, and more.) They’d always ask me to play Nirvana songs on the guitar and keyboard. This music brings back memories of the 90’s when they were little and I was so much younger (lol). Thanks for the music, Nirvana and Meat Puppets. ♾️🕊️❤️🌻🎼🎵

This is a Meat Puppets song. He wanted to do songs that MTV didn't really want them to do and he did them anyways... they feared the audience wouldn't know those songs but those were some of Kurt's favorite bands, like Meat Puppets, David Bowie... he didn't think lots of Nirvana's songs could be played unplugged... the Meat Puppets songs definitely sound great unplugged. Kurt was the best. Nirvana got me through my teenage/20's years and still does today. I'll never forget those years... the 90's were special in a number of ways... you could feel a change in the air. I agree an old soul gone way too soon....

I read that even after the concert he thought it was a terrible performance and had to be convinced it was great.

Nirvana would've been a fuller band if Kurt actually worked on his guitar playing.. even for live performances sake
You can hear that Cobain was really happy to sing that one, the excitement and fulfilment in his voice at the beginning just makes me so happy for him.

you can tell how excited kurt is about this one, the childish giddy is infectious in sure he felt like a human being in those few fleeting moments, like someone who fit in and was normal and got to be a normal person
Kurt was enjoying so much playing in that dimension, actually feeling the love of the people around him. A better stage for his career, compared to angry and loud usual one. He was a real musician, looking for some evolution too. God have mercy on him !

He seemed to blur his own lyrics when he sang them, maybe because they were very raw and hit him hard, I don't know but he always seemed to be a little apprehensive about sharing such deep emotions of his own, seemed he couldn't do anything else though because he felt everything on such a deep level. But that's what gave us the poetry. Miss him still. Thanks for giving Gen X a voice Kurt, we were all a bit sick and tired of the baggage we inherited and the world's injustices too.
Kurt passed six years before I was born, but thanks to my dad being a big Nirvana fan, I can appreciate the amazing music they made. Kurt's voice in this whole show just makes my soul happy. It's inspired me to get back in to playing guitar

I honestly feel the three Meat Puppets covers on Unplugged benefitted so much from Kurt having Curt Kirkwood there handling the guitar parts. Kurt so rarely ever played songs while not playing guitar and in this one we not only get amazing vocal performances from Kurt but we also get the guitar parts played brilliantly by the original songwriter. It's just great.

This is my favorite Nirvana song.. and it’s a Meat Puppets cover. I absolutely love this song! ❤ I went to a local record store when this album came out in 1994 and bought it as a cassette tape.
I’d sit for hours at a time, listening to the songs so I could play my guitar and sing along with them. This was one of my favorite songs to play and sing, not only on guitar but also on a mini keyboard.
My kids all grew up listening to Nirvana and grunge, thanks to me. (I also got them into classic rock like Zeppelin, the Beatles, and more.) They’d always ask me to play Nirvana songs on the guitar and keyboard. This music brings back memories of the 90’s when they were little and I was so much younger (lol). Thanks for the music, Nirvana and Meat Puppets.

This is a Meat Puppets song. He wanted to do songs that MTV didn't really want them to do and he did them anyways... they feared the audience wouldn't know those songs but those were some of Kurt's favorite bands, like Meat Puppets, David Bowie... he didn't think lots of Nirvana's songs could be played unplugged... the Meat Puppets songs definitely sound great unplugged. Kurt was the best. Nirvana got me through my teenage/20's years and still does today. I'll never forget those years... the 90's were special in a number of ways... you could feel a change in the air. I agree an old soul gone way too soon....
