The Lego City cosmos designer is just amazing, and the other tech kits and friends are cool too. Then you can make a lot of different crafts with your own hands.
I think they figured it woulda been awkward if the giant six-wheeler were the only Technic set with an airlock piece, so they shoehorned them into the two other ones. Which, in my opinion, has not worked at all: the small rover garage is exactly that: a garage for a Technic-scaled small rover and not a minifig interior, plus the door of the airlock is just a sticker on a Technic panel, and the crate from the small four-wheeled rover could be used as a small length of corridor with optional entrance hatch, but it's so gappy that even as a child I would have trouble to pretend it's airtight. All in all, the City/Friends implementation is … passable, because of the solid/unopenable airlock doors, but they sholdn't have bothered with Technic.
It's even more of a compatibility issue if you try to attach them to previous years sets with the airlock. In the end I've had to modify almost all of them to have a consistent connection. Not ideal, but also thats the beauty of lego sets - that you can modify them to suit your needs.
4:42 But, we can customize it by removing the blocked path in the air lock. Isn't that, why we all love legos? So we can customize it based on our imagination instead of playing as intended.
I loved the previous "realistic" space lego series but unfortunately I can't afford Lego nowadays, but I'm glad they've kept the airlock system going and expanded on it! Nothing I love more than this kind of connectivity, like with the Harry Potter sets too.
I can say this space theme is so good, in my opinion, that it got me to buy friends sets for the first time. I actually bought a second space station set and made my own modules including a module that can link two modules to one.
The rocket modules connected together reminds me the Life on Mars solar explorer rocketship! And the whole heavy duty vehicles with interchanging modules reminds me a lot of the game Astroneer. Love it
We did a whole Mars Base for a collaborative LUG build we'll be debuting at Brick Rodeo in July. The modulars were planned more than a year ago and while I'm glad we got a lot of space stuff this year, I wish I'd have known they were doing all this airlock linking with that orange technic brick before hand. I'd have made all our modular airlocks with it and we could have used some of the sets to add more to the display.
I wonder does it fit with the similar airlock system from NASA Mars Exploration Sets from 2019? I remember it used to be a two nice Lunar Space Station 60227 and 60349 and 60350 Lunar Research Base. I wonder what kind of huge space station can be built combining all these sets?
Yes! There are previous mars and moon themes City sets with the same connection piece, just in dark grey instead of orange. I think it should work fine 🚀
Glad to see you are recovered from sickness. Compatibility between themes is weird to me because I only collect a few of them, and build them separately as well. So connecting them is not something I am particularly looking forward to.
I like the piece and the concept, thought it is flawed as you noted. I like the modules as a way to expand larger buildings like the Space Science Lab, or connect them to other buildings.
We need a Ninjago Space theme, and some for other themes as well. That way it will be the perfect way for all themes to come together in this new theme.
Turn the module of the city sets sideways to connect them with the Technic sets, they are the same part and can be connected but they are not perfect squares
City has the problem, that the Rover and the shuttle from the base need the modules to be exactly 8x10 with not a single stud outside of this. This extremly limited the creativity of what could be done with the module, which in my eyes are to small to contain anything usefull, but are still so large, that they are really central when it came to designing sets around them
LEGO [system] isn't perfect but offers many possibilities to modify. I am not fan of modern Space line but I am sure it can provide a lot of fun to anyone with imagination.
Did anyone else expect it to have like, magnets, or a special kind of locking lug like the ones on nerf muzzles? They were hyping it up a lot for a Lego technic piece that’s just a circle with four pin sockets.
I wonder if these sets are compatible with other modular parts from older lines, like the previous City Space stations which also had similar airlock parts but in grey?
I think it's a nice Idea but it's very limited and there is not much benefit to connecting things. It would've been more interesting if there more shapes like you said at 4:52 and there was some kind of Mothership/Build that you can combine them into. Like the Harry Potter Hogwarts Sets do and the two City Sets Space Base and Space Lab do. Connecting all of the Modules from different Sets together to make a very long rocket isn't that interesting to me. Technic could've done even without the orange door lock piece. I still love the sets by them self!
I guess the city and friends sets will be the most desired by children and are also the most playable so that should be the saving grace. I guess they tried something advanced with technic but the compatibility was sacrificed on the altar of design.
A child could certainly have fun, but as an adult, I see this like a failed opportunity. City and friends are okey, but with technic are completely unbound.
I think it’s a fantastic idea that’s a little lacking in execution. The primary color elements crossing over is some fantastic design but some of the more clever design elements aren’t crossed over specifically to technic like the Crystal batteries aren’t used at all and alien elements are also completely absent as well as the technic designs are much more modern and don’t carry as well the borderline sci-fi elements that the city and friends space sets have
I like your video, however, I do disagree on the compatibility of minifigs on the Technic sets. If you clasp one of the hands on the steering wheel, while the fig is in a seated position, you cab swivel that steering column down so the butt of that minifig is firmly in the cockpit seat. I think it looks near perfect.
I showed this in my review video. For me "minifig compatibility" would mean more, as the cockpits are not really designed to be accessible, you need to partially take the set apart.
The recent Lego Space 40712 set is lots more fun than any of these, even tho' it's small. Galaxy Explorer rerelease was great I bought four- had not bought any legos in years 'til that came out.
Well they also had this piece in dark bluish grey for the last two series of space with the NASA mars inspired and NASA Artemis inspired sets and the underwater base with the ocean exploration. So I'm glad they keep giving this piece life, and it it means the modules are compatible with ALL of these subthemes as well! The technic is the only poor implementation, and it is odd that they didn't just leave the ends open like they did before since they capped everything off with those Mario ground plates.
I refuse to buy Technic sets. Just not for me. But I love the City line and the two alien habitats that are coming out without a proper theme other than "space" to add to the worldbuilding. Thought about the Friends set but hate that purple color and how it wouldn't match the translucent black from the City stuff. I am happy that they can link, though.
Maaan o man ,if i had this 35 years ago ! But we had city and clasic/blacktron space 😉... Anyway Duplo,Classic and Creator are NOT compatible, all others can work 👍😁👍👏👏👏👏
The Lego City cosmos designer is just amazing, and the other tech kits and friends are cool too. Then you can make a lot of different crafts with your own hands.
I recall a comment I saw on Brickset:
“Technic, you don’t have to be a part of this if you don’t want to.”
I think they figured it woulda been awkward if the giant six-wheeler were the only Technic set with an airlock piece, so they shoehorned them into the two other ones. I noticed this too. The 2022 base has to be modified to connect to the 2024 ground base sets.
4:42 But, we can customize it by removing the blocked path in the air lock. Isn't that, why we all love legos? So we can customize it based on our imagination instead of playing as intended.
Imagination *and* budget...

There needs to be a smaller
The T joint is a must!

Love seeing a dad be a dad
I have 6.453.640.235 spare black Technic pins available if you're worried about running out of those.
Are you sure you have enough ?? 🤣
@@adrianlynch9435 +3 since finishing the Boarding the Tantive IV set. I think I'm set for life.
A Castle/D&D theme with a modular gimmick could be fun.
this sounds amazing indeed
I see this a first gen to gauge interest. If they keep with it, I imagine it will get pretty cool
I hate when people say I don't have time in UA-cam videos. THERE'S NO TIME LIMIT!!!
And you think the people who make the videos have all the time in the world for that single piece of content?
a ton of the space sets from the previous two waves of city also use the piece
Glad to see you are recovered from sickness.

Why would I need to turn them sideways?
Airlock connects to older 60350 lunar base and 6-wheel lunar vehicle.
is the centre 2 pins on the modular space station able to hold a module? could look very cool having the main control cockpit be in the centre?
City has the problem, that the Rover and the shuttle from the base need the modules to be exactly 8x10 with not a single stud outside of this.

Where's Duplo space set for comparison? People need to know if Duplo can work together well with Technic :D
The Duplo space sets don't have airlocks.
A child could certainly have fun, but as an adult, I see this like a failed opportunity. City and friends are okey, but with technic are completely unbound.
Yea but technic is always larger.
I think it’s a fantastic idea that’s a little lacking in execution. time for me to design alternate instructions that allow airlock access, and order the parts secondhand
I like your video, however, I do disagree on the compatibility of minifigs on the Technic sets. Hi. is possible connect 60227 modules to 60433? thank you
It’s not like Lego has any parts to build an airlock like that. Makes sense they made another specialized piece.
Well they also had this piece in dark bluish grey for the last two series of space with the NASA mars inspired and NASA Artemis inspired sets and the underwater base with the ocean exploration. Anyway Duplo,Classic and Creator are NOT compatible, all others can work 👍😁👍👏👏👏👏
Meh. I'd still rather have straight up re-issues of Classic Space. Bring back the notched wing pieces! :)
Nice 👍👍
I don’t care if you’re absent from this app all it matters is that you and you’re family had fun and are okay and health is important
I wish the chinese brick makers like webrick would make more Space sets... since Lego has punted / is not interested in cashing in on that market.
Hello
0:09 - You lost your hair by being sick? 🤒 🤢 🤧
Hello first here
I love Lego Space but these sets are boring boring boring! Am not sure what Lego is thinking.
These look.. awful. They don’t look like either Space or City.
