Excellent video but since I don't have any od those troubleshooting tools handy, I always always check fuses first. Most informative auto repair video I've ever seen
@JoeYoung25 Thank you!
Was going crazy chasing down the P0449 code issue on my GMC Jimmy. Followed your lead and found the rotted ground wire ( in the harness above cross member ) from the vent solenoid to the ECU. Appreciate your approach and step by step diagnosis. I'm a fan!!🤗
@wilgoo55 Thank you! I appreciate it! I'm glad to hear that the video was helpful!!
Just wanted to update you on where my problem was. It was also inside the chassis harness. But it was the White wire going to the ECM. A buddy of mine came over to help me and we found a point in the harness that the White had continuity back to pin 34 in the chassis harness connector. Since the open was yet beyond that back to the soleniod connector, we added a small length of White wire, and spliced it into the harness to the EVAP Vent soleniod. Doing that we could now test for a completed circuit between the power pin 33 Red wire, and pin 34 which goes to the ECM. We then reconnected the chassis harness connector, the battery negative cable, start the truck, and the check engine light was now off! The code was still in permanent mode, but cleared after the 2nd drive cycle.
Thank You for your video on this as it really was great, and I will look for more great videos coming from you!
Stuart Tell My Pleasure! and thanks for the update I'm glad to hear that you fixed your vehicle!

Nice video, these evap systems are a very common problem for this era of GM trucks and vans
Cool Ranch Thank you! Yes these Evap systems are problematic !
Great logical diagnostics as usual ... nice find. Better there than underneath the fuse box .. :)

Very detailed video and great angles. I have this issue and I’m browsing videos to see if I can do this myself. I changed my throttle body myself but this looks like a job for a real mechanic🤣 can’t keep up with this 1 💅🏾

Good video. That wire was most likely damaged by someone stabbing it with a test light to check for power. Insulation is damaged so then the corrosion starts.

Very informative, thorough.
@billjenkins7179 Thank you!
I got the same problem PO449 code with a 2015 GMC Canyon, only I do have 12 volts on the EVAP vent soleniod red wire, and if you ground the white wire it clunks, so I guess I am going fishing in the harnesses for a broken white wire. Thanks for the video and the greatd work!

I watch your Awesome videos all the time. I noticed that you always use your Snap On scanner. Great tool. But it’s very expensive. I would like to see you review a few good quality less expensive scanners. Your opinions on less expensive scanners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Phil
Phillip J Lynch My Pleasure Phil! I will do tool reviews as soon as I can! Great suggestion !
Launch X-431 pro! A lot less expensive with many of the features high dollar scanners have, such as live data reading, ability to read abs, bcm, etc. etc. computer codes as well as perform bi-directional scanning with ability to enable and disable components and set different values in order to test components on the vehicle in live time. I spent around $800-$1000 for mine but have ability to do ecu coding etc. etc. Not to mention mine came with all the necessary hookups in order to diagnose almost all obd1 vehicles which was thousands by itself when I went to college for auto tech. Very good cheap scanner over say a snap on which I have used a few models of them myself when in college! I have only used it on 3 vehicles I own so far, but has already been worth getting hands down!!! The ability to blutooth from OBD port to a well protected tablet is well worth the extra expense no question as well!! Then it can be used under hood in the cab or take inside to print or update the software (I got a year subscription with free updates with my purchase)
Did a lot of research before my purchase and so far no complaints, wonderful tool once understand how to naviagate it! Best part for me since I've personally owned it is the ability to not only read the pcm but all the other computers like the bcm, tcm, abs module, etc. has helped diagnose brake light on my 00 C2500 I couldn't figure out prior, and just last week used to diagnose a bad wheel speed sensor and exactly which one on my moms 17 journey, which without would have been a big guessing game on the ABS traction control lights on without an expensive scan from the dealership that I can do whenever wherever myself thanks to my Scan tool! Hope this helps.
Excellent!!

Did you inspect very closely the black wire loom, those plastic adel clamps that hold the harness are known for rubbing through the loom and eventually rubbing through the wires, thanks for the easy fix.

If the power is good and the ground is not good what we gonna do ?? Chevy tahoe 2007
@hamzabenyahia9499 you might have an open in the control wire! check the control wire!
I have a 2004 5.3 silverado that p0449 code came up for me . Will the vent selonoid cause a hard start if its bad ? The only time it gives me trouble starting is after i refuel. If i open my throttle up and keep the engine at about 1500 rpms for a lil bit then it wont shut off other wise it takes a few cranks to get it going. This only happens after getting gas . It starts up fine any other time wether it's first start of the day or going into a store and shutting it off briefly.
Napoleon The Frenchie your purge valve is the problem. it's sticking open!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thanks for your response. I have replaced it several times before due to a code being thrown and fixer app said it was purge valve. It was tested for vacuum leaks as a smoke test. So if its stuck closed then it wouldn't show on a smoke test if it was bad I'm guessing. If by chance it isn't the purge valve what else could it be ? I was thinking the vent valve in the rear and that's what led me to your video thanks .
Is there a product to plug into the truck and feed into PC/laptop with the correct software so one has easier access to controls, menus, and reports ?
@darrinfrench9018 I'm aware of such a thing but you never know maybe there is a computer outthere that can do that!
How do I check the negative trigger that comes from the computer (white wire) without the expensive scan tool?
@thomasnoguera9883 you can disconnect the vent solenoid and the ECM connector then do a continuity test of the vent solenoid control wire!
Why my ltft bank 1 show -16 an stft show +2 an bank 2 ltft show -17 an stft show +3 please respond thank you for your good videos
Simon flores Your engine is running lean! email me at Deo@caaleva.org for repair tips!
I like the way you Teach but Question ❓ 👈 how would you test another word Command the Test light On/Off if you didn't have a BiDrectional Scanner I would like your answer...🤔
svhebert that's a good question, if you cycle the key 5 times and watch the test light the computer might turn the vent solenoid on to test the circuit, this technique may not work on some other trucks, but the easiest way to check to control wire when you don't have a scan tool that has bidirectional controls is to disconnect the ECM and send power on the control wire from the ECM's connector with the ECM disconnected then check for power at the vent solenoid connector!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repairmake perfect sense I appreciate your response ,thank you 👍

@bassdee10 Lol!!
Sir I don't get no voltage from the white wire or red wire at all I have tried everything you said but nothing! At the beginning I did get 12v from the red wire but accidentally both wires touch and now I'm not getting nothing
Pantera Rocks Check your fuse and make sure there is no open in the circuit!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair the fuse is good but wires touch and I had a spark
@@LEONDELASIERRA1 so! you have a wiring problem!
Can you video on p0448 if possible?
Shawn Usman Yes! when a vehicle with that code comes to our shop I will make a video!
How do I ask my mechanic to do this job and what is an average price for it
@muhammadparham5333 you can tell him to test the vent solenoid circuit,
What happen if the control wire is not working, you have to replace the computer
alsteven44 if there is no ground on the control wire the issue could be an open in the wire or a bad driver in the ECM!
I want to know what scanner he’s using
@detonationpyrotechnics4156 I used my snapon Zeus scanner in this video!

What is the work of the vent solenoid?
@user-dw7jv9zi1d the vent solenoid allows fresh air to enter the canister for it proper function!
@@KITS_Auto_and_Truck_Repair thanks so much but I don't know what is canister in a vehicle what does it work
