- The philosopher, Walter Benjamin said that only when we lose ourselves are we fully present, and to be fully present is to be capable of being, in uncertainty and mystery.
The art of knowing how to get lost involves daring to go beyond the boundaries that contain you and explore the unknown. To escape for a day from the safe path and enter the unforeseen.
And it doesn't mean that you need to wander into a forest on your own, without a map or GPS. There are many simple ways to get lost - reading an engrossing book, engaging in a conversation about a topic you don’t know much about, or just trying a new meal in a restaurant that is outside of your usual.
Feeling lost can be a gift - if you only choose to look at it this way. It’s a state that presents opportunities you can’t see when you live your life according to a predictable schedule. It involves opening yourself up to the uncertain and the new. It stimulates your imagination and gives you new perspectives.
Let's all go out and get more lost.

As an Indian, I completely understand needing parental approval. Even subconsciously, we so easily give up the things that we love just cuz we know our parents wouldn't approve of it, or at the very least be proud of us. We so want to make our parents proud and be happy when they talk about us in their social circle, that we forget it's making us more and more depressed. Although, realising this itself is a big step towards self love and change. I hope all those kids who feel this way, realise that it's okay if your idea of happiness is different than your parents'. You're allowed to make use of this life in a way that makes you happy because at the end of the day you're doing no one any favor by living a life that you don't love.

I think every culture has a version of this.I felt this way when I was young and even tried to push this on my children. In my late forties my life fell apart. I got divorced and the veil came off. I was devastated at the time…..but luck would have it the Universe knows exactly what you need! It was the best thing to happen to me! My kids were the one thing that kept me going even though they were grown. That event put us on a even playing field and I was able to see my kids for who they are, amazing! Now I try to pass on the good things handed down from generations of just doing what we were taught. I don’t always understand my kids, but I don’t have to. I love them just the way they are and wouldn’t want them to change one thing!

The definition of a trauma bond - seeking validation and healing from the source of the abuse. I imagine it’s more than just difficult in cultures where loyalty to parents is valued above personal well-being. Her expressions are very familiar to me (childhood emotional neglect, or maybe emotional abuse). She’s truly a lovely human being.

What I love about your videos is that they show human beings in that most human of tasks - making sense of. Today, I called my mom and told her about the difficulties I’m going through and I told her how disconnected I feel in some of my current circumstances of life, especially work, tired of not being able to express myself as I am, my quirks and creativity etc and as I was listening to her telling me something about Kant’s philosophy on choosing your path and constantly evolving and taking full responsibility on your impact here on Earth….I suddenly realised I actually called her to hear ‘’yeah, but you can try this or that and it’s okay if it doesn’t work out” and then it finally sunk in that I don’t need her permission to live as I wish to live anymore and any path I take is a good path. I was given this permission already, the moment I was born, by god. I can’t imagine how challenging it was for Kelly to keep true to herself, especially in a culture that celebrates conformity and parental guidance through every step of life is seen as inevitable.Thank you for showing that it is possible. I keep going back to this video.

It is lovely to listen to Kelly and the point she makes about moving forward into unknown territory is perfectly right according to my experience. You don’t even have to leave the house sometimes to accomplish that, but ‚simply‘ go out of your own way for longer than just a few minutes.

And yes, often that uniqueness can cause us to feel very lonely in the world that seems to demand conformity in order to fit in. This rings very true for me. But it's my natural state. I grew up a military brat, so I was always the new kid. I was never meek, never trying to fit in. I'm 71 and my life is a long series of getting lost again. Huge career changes, relationships came and went. Big learning curves. Moving to the woods at 53. My latest venture out of my comfort zone is learning piano from scratch with a creative improvisation coach, like Zen & the art of piano. He's like the best therapist ever, unblocking my discomfort. so many of your videos expose in real, grounded, human experience the fallacy of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. There are so many people in your films that demonstrate clearly that self realization is available regardless of any other needs being met. What most of us think of as adequate living conditions and satisfying social relationships as prerequisites for self realization, some folks just go right by those and find the home of their heart and soul. Ahh I loveeee this! No matter where we are, background, language, we are all humans trying our best in this world. Definitely understood the validation and approval of parents, I tried my hardest and made sure I was always being the "good" child. And now to hear my parents tell me how proud they are now that I do what I love and not to do things for them is freeing and I hope children everywhere can get that. It's so okay to be your own person, that's what makes you unique ❤

Her message about getting lost, and doing things out of your comfort zone really rescinates with me, but i also think she a product of social media influence, and the loneliness one feels at no fault if her own . I feel what shes craving is true friendship and sadly thats lost alot in todays generation due to the wrong "influencers" . True contentment is found with inner peace, and a creative mind .
