This is a closure song for Hanbin. It hurts to stan them without the leader but we need to accept that he's not around anymore.
This song is definitely about the group and B.I. Notice the scene when they're all on the bus, they left a seat in the middle empty where B.I. would have been. That bus represents the journey they were all on as a a group but now it's missing one. The bus in flames represents the end of that journey and now all the rest of the group can do is move on. Last lines of the song reflects how they feel...they've always loved him and that love will not end.

Bigbang and 2ne1 are the only groups I used to stan. Then came iKON. Very outstanding artists. A threat to others that's why others' fans are trying to bring them down. But nah, iKON is pure talent. No one can tell me otherwise.
This song got me teared up as an ikonic! It feels like an acceptance no matter how painful. A farewell and a start of moving forward to a new era. 😭

I love that you interpreted the mv and music well. Yes, Hanbin is all throughout the video, lyrics, and choreography. Only true iKONICs can tell and I'm still waiting for a reactor to explain the ending 😂 because the ending of the song represents sudden separation, it will left you hanging for a while, it will give you a lingering feeling.. iKON is not just an idol, they are artists that many people has been denying from a long time ago.

I want to add that most of their lyrics are written by themselves and when B.I was with them he produced almost all their songs and for other artists of YG Ent as well. Actually we cried a lot when this song came out, it really sad to lose someone who was like your brother for so long...

For me it was the ring being tossed by the payphone..that solidified who and what this song was about..(The members of ikon have matching rings.).🥺

One thing I respect about YG Artists is that they really appreciate and are grateful of their time with former members and are able to express it musically. 2NE1’s GOODBYE and WINNER’s FOOL are known to be dedicated to members who had decided to leave YG. Both are beautiful lyrically as well.
Though WHY WHY WHY hasn’t been directly confirmed to be dedicated to Hanbin, we as fans feel it is. And the “open ending” feel of the song supports it imo. I really liked how you translated the bus “moving forward but now burning to ashes” yet they still have to keep walking forward.
For me, the open end also means we really don’t know what still lies in the future. YGAs are still really close friends even after leaving YG. The relationships that went thru hardship like theirs would be hard to completely break away from and the way the artists within YG respect each other artistically is also a factor.
I’m confident that the members will one day be able to work alongside Hanbin again... one way or the other.
As close as they were and what they endured and experienced-I believe this also.
When their contract ends can iKON like... Leave and join Hanbin's label....

And how they finally decided to move forward keeping him in their hearts , marking their new beginning !
They showed us how even their new beginning has him and originated from the ashes of their past , where they are not condemning their past , but instead taking it along as a happy memory for a new start!

A few references from their past songs, 725 on the bus they burnt (7 members, 2 rappers & 5 vocalists) etc. The bus burning representing an end to their past and possibly the beginning of a new era for them as 6 members. My hypothesis is that they were on a break for so long from the fans. then when the covid hit they are not able to preform for ikonics hence the burning tour bus and maybe they realize they should not have taken so long to get back to the fans. Because now they can't tour and preform with covid and It feels like a loss of a break up. They have mentioned how much they regret being away for so long from their ikonics and feel grateful we waited for them. Love thes guys so much. ❤
