You can run your radio to its full power, max. on ssb the outputs on most radio are capable of higher power but the manufacturers set them to 100 w pep the only time you want to turn your power down is on fm as its a continuous transmission unlike ssb the only other thing is when hf radio been widebanded the bandpass filters will not work as they only cover the ham bands meaning you will probably have harmonic with your transmission but I guess if we all cared about that max 555 would be rather quite 😉

FYI, you can program one of the buttons (C.S Voice) to quick;y send a low power (10W) CW carrier, for when you are tuning or checking SWR, without needing to go into the menus, whistle, etc... to do so, which is much easier.
Nice one, thanks. I have always found a very short whistle (or "Ola") just before a call as an SWR visual kinda works and is easy. Old Habits eh? Thanks for your comment.

I am also an 52 year old alpine racer and live at Mammoth Mountain ski resort in America. My coach is a Frenchman ski racer and there are a lot of Frenchmen on my team. I saw another video for this radio where they had AF Gain turned max and used RF gain as volume control. Apparently that gives far better control of noise.
Hi John. It is all down to personal preference and situation really. I tend to only dip the RF Gain on FM and use the digital stuff for tuning and "comfort". Thanks for Your Comment.
Just found your videos and wanted to thank you for the the time and effort you've put into making them. I came across your videos as just purchased a 450d and your videos are by far the clearest and simply explained I've found. Since coming back into radio in 2017 or (mid life crisis) as the xyl calls it I’ve had a fair few radios. I bought one of these and it was my first HF transceiver. I really regret selling it etc, but I’m licensed now, not that it matters and use an Icom 7300. Love Icom stuff but this has a special place with me. I might buy another one. Hi. Thanks for your comment. I have done Videos with the FT450D on tuning. Also, It is easy to see the tuning settings on Video with this Radio. I have a 100w Logitech sound system on the "front end" and my settings are done accordingly. I mostly only adjust stuff on RX when I am SWL or a particularly tough QSO. No Yagi at the home QTH. That is why I do static-mobile with Moxon and yes, I know about pointing antennas, earth 3D orientation and coriolis magnetic deflection. It is rare for a signal to be direct between two stations on DX. Have you ever worked an antenna 6 or more elements to experience this??? I don't understand the point of that comment... sarcasm? I am quite sure that there is no ham band at 11M in the states. 10M (28MHz - 29.7MHz) and 12M (24.89MHz - 24.00MHz) are the closest. I believe that, in the US, 11M is the old CB radio band.
Set it with the DIM/METER button. Note it won't tune or transmit if the antenna is way off SWR (ANT icon flashing on display) Otherwise, you may have a tech issue. Let me know how you do with this, please. Cheers
I have an "import" radio. I bought this radio too because i wanted to. I use many features, not all. I think that is perfectly normal. Same idea as buying an up market car. Do you use EVERYTHING? Do you drive it flat out EVERYWHERE? Or... Did you buy it because you want to and it floats yer boat for what you want it for. @@MaxMountainWorld I'm not chastising your decision it just seems like a lot of money for something that could be done for a lot less. But I understand the appeal, Amateur transceivers are usually a little higher quality than the average CB is.

I Use huge camper-van battery (slow-drain) and auto digital charger (all bought new specifically for the radio) for purity of signal (no buzzing) and also continuation should power-cuts occur. Also the majority of the charging is topped up with three photovoltaic solar panels. Thanks for your comment.
Also, since my transition to SSB in the late 70's a radio set-up should be "All or Nothing" re Earthing. I do the "Nothing " route to avoid excessive QRN and also to minimise the risk of electric storm damage. I am at 1800m (6000ft) and we can get some incredible storms here. Thanks again.

The Shift knob = IF Shift and it's to be used with the DSP width to remove noise not to tune people in on frequency that's what the clarifier is for.

In the States your limited to 5 watts on 11 meters.

Why buy a radio this feature rich if you're just going to be using it on the 11m band? Why not just get a CB or an import radio?
