You know what is more important?Parents, good education. I've listen to hip-hop since 8,now I'm 24. Never smoked, robbed or killed even being poor, being in the hood and all.
@4:49 Lord Jamar is 100% right. All that coping mechanism shit is not the way to go. Meditation and getting in touch with your true inner self will bring you some answers because you'll abide to your higher wisdom.
That whole "I'm using this to cope" is a cop out for these new young junkies. They are in competition to see who can get the highest. Now look at Fredo, in the hospital singing a different tune.
Jordan Clemons he in the hospital getting the good dope now all they do is ask if you have pain if so on a scale. Of 0 to 10 where is it all you gotta do is say ten and ask for something theyll give it to you once they look at your fharts and ask the dr. Usually they give it to you because its their job to make you feel comfortable i was able to get 4mg of morphine every 3 hours i smoke weed constantly but for the week during my stemcell transplant they kept me good high and numbed the fuck up i aint lieing lmao
Realist shit ever! These dumbass love to brag about how much of that shit they take and then want some sympathy cause they're "sick". I have no sympathy for that shit what so ever. Been through it too long. These mfs don't want to change till it's too late
The end of the day its just music. Music is influential but so are movies and tv shows. If you cant separate your reality from entertainment you gonna be chasing a dream forever.
sfspartan You must be a Pale. It's not just music. It's a CULTURE. Hip Hop is indistinguishable from popular black culture, you dolt. You cannot understand unless you live in the hood.
The black community cannot separate dreams from reality for the most part. In fact, nobody can, which is why Caucasians don't make music about self genocide and drug glorification. If they were, y'all would be the same way.
Been that way since i was lil. Im a pill poppin animal. Lolll. surp surp. Surp surp sippin n**** And everyone i know still on that tip boy. Me included
Rappers from the 80s was anti drugs & gangs, rappers from the 90s were pro gangs & drug deal, rappers from the 2000s - 2010s are pro gangs, drug dealing & NOW being junkies so it has been consistently regressing properly.
gangs have changed as well. it used to be all for protecting the community and standing up to the powers that be, now its all about having a badass image and causing havoc to the community
There is nothing appealing about drug addiction. Coming from a family with many former addicts and former dealers I know its all bad. The self medicating thing is a lie people tell themselves. Also look at former addicts as they age. People have health issues well into their later years from drug use that happened in their youth. Nothing cool about being a dope fiend.
There was NOBODY in my HS years of the 90s proud to say they are an addict and if you were a druggie nobody wanted to be around it. It too associated to being on crack or coke...if you looked strung out that shit wasnt a good look. I guess if a NEW rap artist said crack was great in orange juice the youth would do that too in this era smh
Talk about the side effects and the dark reasons behind why you really high all the time..low self esteem, abuse, struggling with identity etc... instead of using the "turn up tarp"
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 it up for Lord Jamar and the young rappers trying to get resist the craving, all these young people deserve to live a long life and be able to see children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren etc
The Weeknd made this shit cool with one lyric from his breakout hit "The Hills" ..."When I'm fucked up, I'm the real me" Like it or not, that was the first time I personally saw drug abuse glorified to such a relate-able degree. I remember The Weeknd blowing up first from it.
I think this is kind of the natural evolution of any popular genre of music. At some point it becomes about the demons that kill all the artists, drugs, fame, mental illness etc. Happened with Jazz, happened with Rock'n'Roll, Modern Pop, etc. We just haven't had any high profile suicides or death by overdoses in hip-hop yet. High profile as in someone like a Drake, or Future, etc.
Why would u abuse drugs to get rid of the pain from losing a friend? It’s only temporary, therapist and meditating is not permanent but it hurts less and stays as a small ache where as drugs it lingers forever as a big ache.
I don't do any type of drugs or alcohol....Nothing. And I'm good. The strongest thing I take is coffee. People should learn how to handle lifes on their own
No Malice got his moment of clarity along wit maturity along with spiritual enlightenment , welcome to growing up! I'm a Christian as well, some will say yes to to God but don't do his will!
What I don't see people talk about is how, if they were rapping about selling drugs in the 90s, all the mess the drugs they sold caused, where did all the kids by the addicts go? Could it be that they are the ones rapping now? The ones who eventually turned to the one thing that destroyed their families, Maybe we should start thinking about Educating these guys instead of judging and pointing fingers. There's always a reaction to an action. Hip Hop Forever, let's focus on helping.
"See we The Gang, we mash and blast to maintain Weed, money, cocaine got us all insane" - Dogg Pound, 1996 and then Kurupt in 2000. Rappers BEEN rappin' about taking hard drugs
Yet another reason I refuse to listen to any of these new mumbo-jumbo "rappers" All you gotta do is keep your eyes and ears to the streets and watch how these young teens out here are walking around like mindless drones.
I almost went to jail while listening to Beethoven.. people use to do drive-bys to songs like Flashlight and Roll Bounce.. so, I don't see No Malice argument
That battle rapper who Vlad mentioned towards the end of this clip name is Cadalack Ron. RIP....He was actually kinda nice too. Sad he lost his life to drugs. Check out some of his battles.
I meditate. 40 minutes a day during my work week. 20 in the am, 20 in the evening. full on my days off, on my path. Plans coming together. my art form resonates with people. Don't love me any less.Pray for them.Love them.Keep your mind together for them, Let them your energy and how good it feels to have your own free will and not be at mercy of a chemical.
I never understood when ppl use drugs to “cope with pain” my close homie got killed I don’t see how bein drunk and high is gonna temporarily relieve u? U gonna be jus as sad as u were when u sober
No you won't, you won't feel shit and to most thats better than feeling pain, you're right tho but people different instead of drugs my big bro would act out and fight and my cousin quit all drugs when we lost our granny, nigga turned his whole life around, gotta be strong
I'm 40 so I relate to Jamar on that junkie shit. Junkies were cracky and shoot up and that's the worst human on Earth. That's how I was raised. You smoke weed, ok, you drink a little, ok. You do coke you're on the thin line but you smoke crack or do heroin, you're the worst! I don't understand how that changed.
J Cole speaks on this heavily in KOD. Meditation is the only way to surpass your trauma, drugs exacerbate problems and leave you stuck. Like you could injure your leg and use a crutch to get around, eventually it will heal but if it’s more damaged than you thought you may have a permanent limp. Surgery and real rest and recovery means you heal much better... without the limp
The reason why it's more exceptible today in hip hop to use drugs is because it was more exceptible to sell drugs back in the day if back in the day u had drug dealer rap it's only logical to think that today or the out come would be drug addict rap...makes sense right...

Yea the streets didnt become huge addicts ..i mean you got so many millennials homeless living on the streets... Never seen so many so young in my life esp here in NYC....like its cool to be a smelly hipster bum ...

brooklynborn718 guess what, this "new wave" is doing the fucking opposite and think that shit cool
That’s not true I’ve seen people come from good families all the time and still do the wrong thing
Quila Quila people will fucked up as long as possible, but the probability of someone with poor to no education/parenting fucking up is a lot higher
royalkina one of the reasons I don't do that shit is because I've seen it when shit goes wrong
You was a square 😂😂😂
Rappers promoting bad life stlyes is nothing new
But I do agree it's getting out of hand when it comes to drug use
getting?
New Royal. Yes my generation was promoting bad lifestyles too

Worse, people in academia who pretend to be HipHop scholars perpetuate the cope narrative like it is something to celebrate or excuse.
So fuckin What? It doesn't excuse anybody! Past or present
lord jamar just predicted fredo santana's death.
basically
damn man damn

I love when Lord Jamar gets deep, when he's not hating he's dropping some knowledge 💎👌
The end of the day its just music. Music is influential but so are movies and tv shows. If you cant separate your reality from entertainment you gonna be chasing a dream forever.
sfspartan agreed👌🏾
I bet you're white. Hiphop is more than Music

Corn Ball exactly
It's very therapeutic to workout without music as well. It gives me the opportunity to reflect on life and train.
Birdman's first record "I need a bag of dope" was all about using heroin.

He also later told how he felt his handlers were keeping him doped up in order to thief his money. He regrets it.
A junkie is never ever cool

I Love Lord Jamar Interviews.

Fitjo SOA I've always said that! we get mad at them being strung out but we forget how our white-t snowman culture contributed to that.
Very true. There's always a deeper issue.

I Remember the days when rappers stood up against drugs, but now, rarely Hip-Hop artists are standing against drugs. Today's Hip-Hop are talking about doing drugs.
