    As an ebike rider myself the main problem with e-bikes that’s being very blatantly ignored is the fact e-bikes are NOT upgradable! When I say this I’m talking about the motor, battery and computer…. Currently e-bikes are almost like computers in the early 00s where they are out of date the movement you buy it!!! Currently the customer are expected to buy a bike north of 5k which goes massively out of date before the warranty is even up! For example Canyon have stopped supplying as an after sale my battery and my bike is still within warranty…… so the shelf life of these bikes are absolutely ridiculous! If you buy a 5-10k bike in my opinion that bike should last 10 years! For me a company like this should build a bike that has interchangeable motor mounts so you could say upgrade the motor either within the brand or even better cross brand! So you can say fit a Bosch motor if you wanted! And the fact you still can’t buy new motors is just pathetic!!!! A customer should be able to replace a motor with ease and also upgrade it if needed as these bikes cost a bomb!

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  12 годин тому +2

      Totally agree, the built in obsolescence is a nightmare on ebikes. At least with Cotic you can switch between different Shimano motors at least and use whatever Shimano compatible battery you want. Until different motor manufacturers start using the small mounts that's about the best you can hope for

      Absolutely spot on, bike brands take the piss. It's about time after market adapters got involved so as to fit different motors and batteries

      @@GuyKesTVabsolutely but I do think we need to put A LOT of pressure on the industry to dear I say it standardise the motor mounts just like the UHD system motors need to be replaceable! But this bike is definitely a good idea but unfortunately I think the big external battery is going to not be very popular unless some nicer looking batteries come out! Hopefully people like yourself who are very respected in the industry can feed this back as bike manufacturers need to realise that you can’t just bring out a 5,6,7 or 12k ebike and expect people are going to get a new bike in 2 or 3 years time! Plus being so ungradeable also means they will be worth sod all in the 2nd hand market! Lol so I do think bike brands and the motor suppliers need to stop ignoring this and start selling motors direct so if you have an EP8 system you can buy the EP801 system from your LBS and upgrade it! Lol just seems so crazy that customers inc myself are accepting what the industry are doing and totally ignoring this issue while they are totally willing to accept the forever changing tech and abandoning its customers who have invested 1000s! I love the idea of this bike but I would go one stance further and have removable motor mounts so they could then bring out different mounts for different engines as and when the tech changes etc just an idea! There’s probably lots of reasons why it won’t work I’m just getting sick of the ebike industry tbh as it feels like we are getting the piss taken out of lol

    • @clipsandstrapsjounal
      @clipsandstrapsjounal 5 годин тому

      The problem when you introduce tech into a product is that the tech advances so quickly, so yes a bike does become like a phone, pc, etc, the issue is the package around the tech costs a lot more than a plastic case around a phone.
      No matter how much pressure is applied to manufactures standards motor mounts won't ever happen. You can't fit a ford engine into a BMW, and Ebike motors are the same. We can't even decide on a headset or BB standard. Apple Vs android, VHS Vs betamax, Shimano Vs Campag, it's in every walk of life nowadays, and previous days too, just the stakes are higher these days. I'm not saying it's right, just what we want to happen Vs what will happen don't run in parallel.

      @@GuyKesTVI do love Cotic as brand and have rode Jeht which was one of the best bike ive ever ridden, so I believe when you say it’s awesome, it’s really awesome. Yet at just short of £9k i think it will be a tough sell especially with a Shimano motor.
      I’ve not ridden the Ep801 with the new update but general consensus is most want the Bosch motor. I feel this is why Santa Cruz made the switch even moving away from VVP to accommodate the change in motor brand.

    I dont know whether Cotic built this from a "need to" or a "want to" basis. Id guess the former.
    Aesthetically speaking, the battery technology isnt quiet there yet for steel frames to look sleek enough. This will come with time and imagine this first interation (gen 1) will improve in this regard each year. Owing to the ability that batteries and motors become smaller over time making them more accommodating for steel frames.
    They have bought this bike to market and with that future improvements can be made. I dont see many other steel frame e bikes that are at the market stage so imagine other steel bike manufacturers will be interested to see how this works out for Cotic.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  15 годин тому

      Totally agree. I think every MTB manufacturer who still only has pedal bikes is looking at the way sales are going and thinking "we need a motor option" ASAP. This puts Cotic into the mix and in a position where they can evolve to follow feedback if necc. Otherwise they're just trying to survive in an ever smaller market share, particularly when it comes to aggressive angled long travel bikes.

    Loving my current-Solaris hardtail and this e bike looks ace. I think calling it a Rocket is slightly confusing of it's a bit more Jeht-like and I think they missed a trick not coming up with a new model name. I think 'Booster' would be cool! 😊

    "That's Shimano, it'll Bosch on!"....blimey it really is a flexible machine 😜 I'm assuming that's some form of Freudian slip 😂.
    I really think it's a tricky business decision this.one. I mean looking at it purely from a market growth perspective you'd have to conclude ebikes are the future. Also there's plenty of Cotic aficionados out there, well into middle age, who might be considering one (obviously I'm only 21 so not quite in that market segment) but will it be enough?

  • @coonepaul
    @coonepaul 14 годин тому +1

    I’ve had a few Cotic bikes over the years so my comments are not coming from a place of hate or inexperience with the brand….but there’s a sense of The Emperor’s New Cloths about the external battery argument. If it was a £4-5K bike with default to the large battery from stock then I could see this being a great option for those wanting something more focused towards the frame than the electronics…but for £8-10K it’s just a straight no. The level of integration, weight, user interface, electronic advancement, and aesthetic you can get from something like AmFlow for the same money makes this seem like our pants are being pulled down a little. I wish them luck with it, because I really like Cotic as a brand and what their philosophy towards mtb’ing has always been, but this time it’s a no from me.

  • @grahamconway2738

    If you are forking out that much for a bike it needs to look great in addition to riding well. Aesthetics are an important driving force in choice whether it be cars, bikes, MTB or Emtbs. This looks like something from the bargain bucket at Walmart. I always thought the point of putting the batteries in the tubes was to lower the bikes' centre if gravity and also protect them better from weather, trail crap and crash damage?
