Thank you for interviewing him again. T1D are a small % of the population, so finding those within our group that also through hikes is fairly rare. Any spotlight you can show on hiking T1D is very much appreciated.
Great episode Al. The trail is challenging enough for someone without health issues and would definitely be more so for someone with diabetes. It was very interesting to hear how he manages his health while hiking the AT. He sounds like he has great support which is good. Very admirable.
Hollywood is such a positive guy that I don't think he looks at challenges as problems, just obstacles to work around and overcome. A great inspiration.
Thank you so much for this! I would love to hike the AT and I am type 1 as well. I obviously have a lot of concerns, so it's amazing to know that someone else did it despite these challenges!
There's so much to consider, but if done right, with careful planning and preparation, a successful thru-hike should be possible 🙂 Good luck out there, and be safe 🤞
Hey dude, nice to meet you too. I'm not the diabetic guy in the shot, that's a friend of mine. From what he told me, the sensors were what helped him to know what was going on inside his body all of the time. It must have been so hard for people previously. Well done on getting out there and not letting limitations hold you back. You're awesome!
Simply outstanding
Thank you
Dude I'm doing the Virginia AT this summer and I've been type 1 for 50 years any input is awsome
Good luck! I hope that you can manage your Diabetes and have an awesome section hike!

I hope he can give more people the confidence to get on trail.
What a cool episode. Thank you guys!
It's incredible the things that people overcome to be on the trail.

dude I got Type 1 in a similar way about 8 years ago. I've hiked the AT, PCT and the Colorado trail. Good to meet you man!
I hike with the Frio gel packs and soak them in a water source each day. The water evaporates and cools the insulin pens/vials.
I just recently got a CGM myself. What a total game changer.
