I worked here from 1971 to 1976. It was L G Jones Shopfitters. You can still see part of the name on the side of the building. I finished my apprenticeship and moved companies in 76. The company got bought out by Manton builders a few years later and eventually closed. I have some lovely memories from my time there. They were a fabulous company to work for and I'd like to add a special mention to my past foreman, Sam Reynolds. He helped me so much in my early career. I'm now 68, so I would imagine he's no longer with us, but he will always be remembered by me. God bless.
This used to be our family business in the 80s, flour mill set up by my grandfather Hari Singh Kang. Thank you for sharing this, brought back many childhood memories.
Hi x you must have fond memories i’m an 80s kid too and I look back to that era with rose tinted glasses x your comment makes me feel humble and I’m glad you put up with me enough to show you around it’s an amazing building x
How sad to see an abandoned brick built building. I think we had a flour building on the corner of our street Weston Street Nechells, it was also looking onto Bloomsbury street. I lived in Weston Street for 19 years but never saw the flour mill used and of course was finally demolished along with my old Weston Street. Thank you for taking me around Curzon Street (still standing ) flour mill....
This Was A Absolutely Brilliant Video. I Was Born Just Down The Road From Here I Allways Wondered What It Was Like Inside. Thank You So Much. Stay Safe. From Blue In Birmingham.
Unusual to see you in jeans, but very wise this time of year... Lovely old building, I love the raggedy old curtains, I am going to paint a ghost ship next week, and would like to be able to replicate the dirty and raggedy curtains in this vid. Imagine the setting that once stood in, long before the horrible tin buildings went up...
I saw this place from google earth and thought some risky climbing would be required, I'm fazing out my old clothes had to detox from all the pigeon crap as soon as I got home I remember a Fred Dibnah video where he became hospitalised from a scratch on his head, he dropped his flat cap into wet pigeon crap and the bacteria got into his blood steam. yes I loved how the wind blew through the old mill, I enjoy loosing myself is these old historical places takes my mind away from modern times. xX Thank you for sharing your thoughts Bry best wishes xX
Another fantastic explore of another iconic Brum derelict - just to note, before it was a mill this was also a famous brewery (went through several companies) so I suspect some of the fitttings you saw could have been in relation to that industry perhaps. Looks like they've given the rooftop a bit of a trim too!
Another amazing abandoned place with such history X Thank you so much for finding these places and sharing them with us and keeping their memories alive. Seemed to have a nice Vibe about this place X But please Take Care of yourself when in these buildings X
Thank you Jenni I love the process of researching then exploring this place exceeded and surpassed my expectations, yeah the old wooden stairs and floors were a tad scary but being on that roof was awesome fun xX best wishes to you and yours Jenni
Another interesting afternoon. Building seems solid enough that it could be rehabbed for many uses. All cellars are spooky. Take care, Ian, and Travel Safe.
Absolutely solid brick roofs and floors there's been fires and all manor thrown at that place and still it stands defiant. I agree ive not found one yet which isn't spooky xX all the best nana xXx

Brilliant stuff, most of central Manchester's buildings are being refurbed or have been flattened, there are the odd air raid shelters and tunnels. btw I am originally from Northfield...when I was a kid, I was fascinated by the bombed buildings that flanked along the Bristol Rd..that was around 1968...I started my urbex website in 2011...I am thinking of having a trip down to Brum..and taking some pics my self...👍
Great video. with the housing problems we are told we have you would think someone would turn that into accommodation while retaining the character of the building.

There were outside lifts and all there pipe work running through the floors was interesting shame most of the machines were ripped out, best wishes to you and yours Alex thank you for your kind words
its a stark landmark in the area, such a well built building there's been fire and water and still it stands solid. cheers for watching and sharing your thoughts Matt
@@XhristinaMacey When l was there the wasn't much in the way of machinery l just remember one workman, but the mill was working and flour was being ground and bagged. l thought it rather odd that with all that space and capability that such a small amount of flour was being worked. As soon as l saw the video it brought back memories of how difficult it was in some places to find the electricity meters, you could spend ages finding the bank of meters only to find that the were more meters elsewhere.
Hopefully the area will get rejuvenated if the roof had not been made from stone I’m sure all the floors would have rotten away along time ago, cheers for watching mom x
Was the burned out truck still in the loading bay? I went there about ten years ago and it doesn't look like much has changed besides the roof coming in
I actually boarded this building up over ten years ago notice the steal sheeting on the windows and doorways it's owned my a man who lives in India f this is what I was told by Birmingham city council officials when carrying out the security work it's very unstable in some parts but yep wicked building my town brumtown ✌️
yeah he was a taxi driver than got into debt and left the country, indeed some of the floors are rotten through and the top flight of stairs looks like its starting to fall away, would have been nice to have seen it with all the machines still in place, Thank you for sharing your thoughts Tracy xX best wishes to you and yours

I love seeing these old buildings but it just breaks my heart to see how they've ended up. It'd be great if it could be restored but that place looks well beyond saving, unfortunately. Dunno if you've ever seen a programme called Salvage Dawgs but we could do with folks like that in this country to at least save the fixtures and fittings, even if the actual building can't be saved. Anyway, another great video and a joy to watch but jesus wept, these places look so dangerous!! So take care, look forward to the architectural discovery.

grade 11 listed buildings developers don't want to spend the money on them, I agree with you, thanks for sharing your thoughts best wishes
Wow awesome building and great vlog! Not sure I would have the balls to go up them wooden stairs onto the roof lol 👍👍

Had the job of reading the meters there, can't remember if we found them, worker on site was not helpful. Approx 25 years ago
You can remember the place full of machinery I’d have liked to have seen it working

It isn't an old mill it started life as a brewery..
Hi thanks for the info I heard the gas works polluted the water and the building changed into a mill 👍
