Hi, a viewer from South Korea studying in the U.S.. Actually, bullying based on bubble colour is actually a huge problem among South Korean teenagers. There is social phenomena for those who goes to school (high school and down) wanting only iPhone because they get left out when iPhone users share files through airdrop and get ignored or get scolded if they ask for such files separately for making the whole work annoying. Back when I was dating, I would match with girls that when we moved off the apps to texting would generally be bothered that I had green bubbles. I'd see if they were serious or joking and offer Whatsapp but it was really surprising how much Apple has truly manipulated people's perception of technology. The irony being that they think we stopped talking bc they were bothered or too good for me when I felt like I dodged a bullet when I almost wasteed my time and money on someone who genuinely cared about something that idiotic.
Try offering Signal instead, it is an even better filter. They're less likely to have used that app, and then they won't have the excuse that they fear Facebook might be watching (which honestly is pretty fair).
Apple's engineers are clearly a very skilled bunch. I feel bad for them though because the sales/marketing teams clearly have full control over how their work is presented. coming out with things like 8GB of apple ram is equivalent to 16GB of other ram and "oh its not awesome engineering its magic..."
@@dewdop that claim was made bc they keep offering "pro" models that have 8 GiB of RAM as the base option to upgrade the RAM you need to spend 4-5 times the market price
@@arjix8738yeah, but Apple hardware is not a fucking TARDIS! 8 gigs is 8 gigs, even if they have clever tricks employed. I always HATED developing for iOS devices because of the low RAM. Their own first party software was designed and optimized for the low memory, but that just made third party apps that much harder to get right, having to squeeze every bit of memory to make it work well. iPads were the worst offenders.
The reason why Apple has small ram but runs decently is because most of their devices don't allow multitasking nor apps in the background. F.e if you have an iPhone and 4 apps open at the same time, some time later the last used ones will reset when you get back to it. So all your progress is lost unless it autosaved. That's the trick behind the "Magic RAM"
Protecting my personal data is pro consumer to me. You know that if you are using Meta or Google products that they are spying on your usage because they sell that pattern data to third party data brokers. Apple doesn't, because they get paid upfront in hardware sales. That is valuable to me, so I choose to accept that their are prices higher.
As an android user, It can be hard when people are mad at ME when I "ruin" their group chat and they have to make a new one excluding me. It is a very clever business move but it is infuriating and almost coercive, and in an economy where so many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, systems that make people spend $1000+ on a cell phone every 3 years is causing more real suffering and misery than people are willing to acknowledge.
you can blame the consumers/audience too. they know the proprietary bullshittery of iPhones isn't good yet they choose to bandwagon with it because of first world problems.
I’ll give apple this; if I had to replace my phone every 3 years I’d be pissed, but iPhones last a surprisingly long time. I have friends who, to this day, daily drive their iPhone 7’s and 8’s. My S20 didn’t get android 11 2 years after it came out, but my friends iPhones still run the latest iOS version. I switched back with the iPhone 15, and I’m not unhappy.

@@michaeltokarev1946you don't need the latest android to run smoothly lol, plus iPhones get that much support because they only have flagships, no mid or low range
Tbf, the technical reason for green messages was to allow the user to know when they are consuming their SMS/MMS. iPhone to iPhone also has green messages, it just means one user isn't available for iMessage (iPhone was off or not connected to the internet) so it sends a green SMS that is guaranteed to send via your mobile network. This feature is important because in the beginning (and even now in many places) carriers would charge for text messages if you went over your limit so it is very important to know whether or not you are sending an SMS. The gimmick at the time was you can "text for free" and you would know it was free cause the bubbles were blue. You are right though, they needed to upgrade the technology for texting a long time ago. Everyone should be able to use the features if they are available for use. At this point Apple is keeping messaging watered down allowing to maintain their "luxury" appearance.
Yeah, back when I had an iphone this was the case. And it was pretty cool to be able to text as much as I wanted. But then I bought an android and we all got whatsapp and I havent seen a blue bubble since (I had an iphone 4)
the mobile plans today have free sms/mms by default so the colour racism is useless. It actually is a bullying tactic. When I was in like 7th grade and finally got my first phone, people would make fun of me because of the green bubbles. They’d say I have an android because I’m too poor for an iPhone. Like, there’s literally no point in their being different colors other than for android users to be singled out and made fun of. Tbh, it was hard when most of the people I knew had iPhones, and even in the video it says almost 90% of teens have one and/or expect one now. Kids then beg their parents for an iPhone so they can stopped being bullied. Now, my younger cousin is one of those assholes lmao She says if she’s in a group chat and sees a green bubble, she’s blocking them
The way my eyes do a full 360 roll every time that an apple user thinks that androids have cameras worse than 1990 nokias just because THEIR phone refuses to accept the full quality image from an android
My appearently "Cheap" camera can take better pictures than a lot of iphones. Keep in mind Iphone has live photo, where it's actually a short video, which increases quality by a lot. But as soon as I send any image or video to anyone, it looks like it was recorded on a toaster or smth.
Pixels feel significantly more premium than the non-Pro iPhone models these days. The glass housing and the metal camera ridge looks cool too. It's very distinct. Meanwhile my corporate iPhone has a plastic camera bump.
Speaking as someone who's 40 years old and remember how Apple was back in the day, it's not that I dislike them but it was always that brand I used to envy where it was something unique and innovative from the norm albeit expensive. I used Macs a lot in school and I owned a hand-me-down black & white Mac model from the 80's as something to toy with but even when I started working full time I couldn't bring myself to seriously buy an Apple anything whether it be a phone, computer, laptop or iPad because the features never justifed the price. I don't know if it's because of Steve Job's passing away as CEO but the discrepancy between average features and high cost is even wider and more glaring now than I'd say in the past 15 years or so. I digress but it is funny watching from the sidelines as the industry, especially in the EU, knocks them down a peg and puts them in their place. It's also equally entertaining watching them try to market or pretend like their dated technology is something new or innovative. 😄
exactly, because the features never justified the price. and Apple created an M2 mac pro computer tower But it doesn't allow a Dedicated graphic card and the Computer tower was supposed to cost over $6,000 or more. Muta, I have something PC gaming related that might be a bit interesting (or I'm just stupid). Could you look into the fact that Steam's suggested pricing for devs seems to put Poland as the second richest region in the world, right behind Switzerland? There are so many games like that, and pretty much any new game that opts to use Steam suggestion ends up with this pattern. I tried to find out how that is possible and how exactly Valve evaluates that since there is not a single person on this planet who knows of the existence of Poland and would say that Poles have higher purchasing power than, e.g. Germany, much less the entire world but Switzerland. Steam only says that foreign exchange rates are a bad strategy and that they have a better, more in-depth system, but they don't disclose anything beyond that. I can't contact Steam support about that because there is not a box to click for such an inquiry, and I don't have twitter. Since you have reach, could you please ask about this? I know this is a stupid request, but since you always advocate for PC gaming, I thought it might be worth mentioning this to you since no one talks about it. When I try to find some info about this, I only find threads from 2013 where Poles were begging for a separate region since Poland had the same prices as Germany. Well, they didn't realize that Poland would now have higher prices than Germany, and unless I slept over something major, Poland did not leap economically over Germany, and if anything, people are worse off nowadays than they were few years ago. If you look it up on SteamDB, the only titles that don't have this ridiculous pricing are by Polish devs because they took the time to change this manually. Even Factorio devs, who are Czech, and have economic situation closer to Poland than Germany, have the price set in Poland at around 12% higher than the one set in the German region (Euro region). It would be literally more beneficial for Poles if their region did not exist because the German prices are cheaper. I know Steam can just say 'It's just a suggestion' but the reality is that if devs are faced with the choice of using Steam's suggested pricing or being unfair and getting potentially less sales in some regions by setting the price the same everywhere, or researching each region - we all know what the obvious choice is.
You are lucky, now that our money's value fluctuates too much daily, steam decided to make our currency USD in Turkey instead of TL. The prices are about 6-8x compared to 1-2 years ago, it's insane. (Steam recommended prices also went up by 550% here last year)
I checked the chart, it seems like they just completely missed the ball on Poland... I can understand raising the exceptionally low prices if there is a problem with people using VPNs to buy games there. I guess they consider Sweden to be close enough to the US to not merit its own category. So I guess games are just overpriced as a whole since I can't afford them either.
The iMessage green bubble thing is such a 1st world thing. I still can't believe that northamericans still use SMS, everyone else just uses another message app.
SMS is expensive in my country; hence, most of us use telegram, messenger and other third party platforms. iMessage is also not popular in my region, so I agree that it’s a first world thing.

Apple's stubbornness was actually nice for me as an Android user since I could weed people out of my life that were superficial enough to care about the color of a text. I could also read people's messages, ignore them, and act like I just never saw them since I don't send out "read" receipts. Though the inability to make group chats efficiently, and the degradation of media sent was frustrating knowing that it stemmed from said stupid stubbornness. With Apple making this move, both Apple and its competitors like Google and Samsung can actually take on Meta with WhatsApp and call out how Meta is a data hoarding company all around and hopefully give meta enough of a hit to where RCS and other messaging apps take over for WhatsApp. Just a thought.
its much much harder to do that tho, whatsapp is a service and there are other services in the market so no monopolistic behaviour there. also since they are not hardware locked nothing to do there. the only thing they can say is WhatsApp is too big but then you can't be like people should stop using a service they think is good. with apple they are actively trying to lock services by hardware and introducing discrimination of sorts

Since Apple is so dominant, when someone's not using them, it become weird and contrasting. Whereas in other part of the world, Android simply had more presence making people defaulting to cross platform messaging apps. I even believe other part of the world already abandoning SMS/MMS as daily protocol (except for edge case like OTP code and such kind of things)
A lot of people here in Europe doesn't know that you can send a picture via phone messaging app and it won't be an MMS. We just use messaging apps from the time they became popular. Wen don't really SMS anymore and that already for a very long time. At least that's how it seems to me.
yepp, if a chat bubble is the basis for a friendship or realtionship it will never last.. what if your friend decide to change brand or service? will they drop you in the trash for not follow them?
4:31 “RCS is used by 390 million people a month” compared to the 5-6 billion that have smartphones, that’s not very much. The truth is that RCS wasn’t widely adopted until very recently. I had a OnePlus 6T in 2018, and had to manually install the Google Messenger app from the Play Store in order to use RCS, and even then it was buggy af. I do think Apple could have adopted it sooner than they did, but you can’t really blame them for waiting a bit until the protocol matured.
I guess you understood it wrong, what he most likely meant is that 390 million people's devices support RCS but the users of those devices use different messaging apps with different protocols like for example whatsapp or telegram.
My text bubbles have always been whatever color i wanted since i can just change them to whatever color or shape i feel, like, very convenient since you can effectively color coat people

i think bapple have built themself into a hole at this point, they worked hard to stay out and be special and now everyone use the same solutions and ideas as bapple and in many cases are better than bapple. So they have a a harder time to invent something new since it means that they have to drop the "bapple is special" mentality..
My phone is able to somewhat do that actually. Android themes can match theme colors consistent to your wallpaper. It's limited but the bubbles do change color. Mine are orange while others messages are magenta.
Until 15:38 I didn't even know what they meant with "bubbles"... I was so confused... On the other hand I was laughing at the fact that the EU forced apple to do something, again.
i knew about the different chat bubbles for android and ios users.. but i have never heard a single person who give me the trash talk for using android. Maybe i have been lucky? I wouldnt care much if a apple user complain and cry that i use "the wrong brand" anyway..
maybe they will invent a bigger screen with a better PPI ? They can also invent the separate app screen instead of putting everything on the first screen like it was a pc from 1990 that have shortcuts to everything in the computer on the desktop?! They can invent a system that allow their users to install 3rd party apps..
How is Apple taking Ls? Gaining RCS is a pure benefit to iOS users, and this has nothing to do with the EU. No RCS enforcement rule was ever even floated, as far as I’m aware.
As someone who has always been a fan of apple products, but also someone who primarily uses a windows machine, I love to see apple forced into better practices. I love my iphone, I’ll probably never switch to another brand of phone. I don’t fully encompass myself in the apple ecosystem, but even the parts of it I do participate in are very convenient. I want to see apple make more consumer driven decisions on their own free will instead of being forced into it, so that maybe people will stop brushing them aside as over priced garbage. I mean their M series MacBooks are already catching up on performance to price ratio, and exceed some competitors even, so I feel like that paired with these EU forced changes will be putting apple in a gradually more favorable position, even if they don’t see it.
I feel like Apple just torpedoed a lot of progress in this regard by giving their M3 MacBook Pros only 8GB of unified RAM. That's unacceptably low in this day and age, especially at that price point.
if they blacklist you they are not your friends of your family. If your family see you as as "annoying" for using the wrong brand.. they are not your family or your friend. i use android, linux, arch linux, windows and i dont use social media except for youtube comments.. Imagine how many that would kick me out of their circle..
They had this in the works. But Nothing hijacking the security most likely led to the announcement. They, as in Nothing, would act as a intermediary router knowing your password was a huuuge security risk. Apple, say what you will about their prices, always cares about security and privacy. I'm sure that was part of it, but the EU pushback was also crucial.

Apple's engineers are clearly a very skilled bunch. I feel bad for them though because the sales/marketing teams clearly have full control over how their work is presented. coming out with things like 8GB of apple ram is equivalent to 16GB of other ram and "oh its not awesome engineering its magic..."
Just curious where they were making that marketing claim? Because that DOES sound like some cool engineering.
@@dewdop that claim was made bc they keep offering "pro" models that have 8 GiB of RAM as the base option
to upgrade the RAM you need to spend 4-5 times the market price

Damn, I hope he sees this.

Dump that person and find someone who respect you for what you are.
I could hardly imagine a reality where Apple actually joins into the entire rest of the marketshare to allow basic compatibility that should've always been available.
bapple tell us that they are willing to become compatible but i wait for real life proof of that before i trust them.. bapple cant even be usb comaptible, i cant use a standard usb-3 in a bapple computer, the bapple standard require me to force the usb into the female contact with 5 kg of force.
I tried it once and it polished my usb thumb drive contact after being used one time.. it was super shiny where the tight areas was..
The poor employee at the library was ready to give up when i asked her to pull the usb thumb drive out after i was done, potential damage to a customer device and that.. it was stuck that hard.
Another time i took a usb thimb drive apart to the board and demostrated that its impossible to use it as its meant.. i have to take it apart..
It was both old thumb drives so it was no expensive potential damage.. but they were both standard usb-3 and usb-2 thumb drives and contacts.. Not compatible with bapples "standard usb-3"

@@siliconhawk my point with WhatsApp, was through being owned by meta, they are a data selling and privacy breaching organization, and now is Apple and its competitors can use the widespread adoption of RCS universal profile to take privacy-minded folks away from WhatsApp and meta in general.
It would take some real and hard marketing to shift people away from whatsapp.
Every company hoards data one way or the other. No point in calling them out on that.
Even if they started losing users, whatsapp would just integrate RCS into the app.
I think it will be hard to get people off of whatsapp. It's established in all of Europe and we use it across countries, it's great if you don't know what a call to someone would cost. And at least in Sweden the alternative is always Messenger. I have one single person in my life that I actually text.
The whole reason Apple never implemented RCS which is the same version as android is because it's a non-standard Google implementation that would essentially give Google a monopoly over text communications using RCS.
