- One of my adult piano friends requested a video of me just playing a typical prelude for my church.
I recorded this video at home but is similar to what I would play at church.
I LOVE using chord substitutions!
See if you can spot different chords to add to your hymn prelude.
Or better yet...suggest your favorite chord sub not seen in this video.

Hi Jenifer! You were my first piano teacher, and I have great admiration for your ability with playing and arranging hymns (I wish I could have stayed with you longer to keep learning all your hymn-playing, improv skills). I still remember watching you play in church as a little girl (and getting to play a prelude-duet with you at church as well). Hello Jenifer! I have followed your channel for awhile and love your playing. What a blessing you are to me. Thank you for taking the time to post videos. At my church, we sing out of the hymnal some and a “chorus” book some which has loose leaf paper. I would love it if you have some tips and tricks on how to organize your sheet music as well as how to place and organize all the music you are playing during a service. Like, I have some hymnal pieces and some loose leaf pieces and I struggle with keeping it all together on the piano during the service and playing it in order. LOL . Thank you!
LIKE these topics! However I'm currently trying a new way of storing my sheet music. I'll need to try it out first. Concerning having music organized at a service....just came up with a solution that works for me. Will share soon in a short post on my website sometime this week.

Have you ever done any videos or written any articles about confidence at the piano or organ, Jenifer? You see I play and sing hymns on my UA-cam channel on my own piano in my own piano room. But I could never ever play for a service because I would become ill with worry about the event, sweat uncontrollably, not eat or drink, panic, talk myself down, and then proceed to play so many duff notes I'd just run out of church and run and run and run Forrest Gump style. My piano teacher, who is a church organist in Minnesota said these are telltale signs of extremely low self confidence.....do you have any ideas as to how I can arrest this destructive trait? To be serious....lots of prayer. Once you practice & learn several pieces real well....try playing at a nursing or retirement center. I LOVE playing at these places because they make an excellent low profile place to play. The people are also very forgiving and supportive. They're just happy you took the time to play for them :)
Try playing for family via cell phone or other online means. You can do it! God has given you the gift....use it :) It's normal to feel at least a little nervous no matter what.
I'm always nervous before playing a piano solo during offering so I pray for God to calm my nerves. I also picture myself in my living room instead of a full auditorium of people.

@@ICanPlayPiano You're making progress then! :) Being in front of a camera makes me more nervous than playing for people in general.
