      I wish I could say this movement would do something. The problem is 30000000 million pounds is practically nothing in comparison to how much is in the ocean. As was said in the Mark Rober video we need to block off the sources that are feeding the trash into the ocean.

      This is just a example of, one person isn't much, but a community, when it comes together can do something massive, 10 mill in 4 days, but there are billionaires who could easily do ten times that and they don't care, yet their corporations produce the most

      people act like its mister beast idea and mark rober but boyan slat was working on this for years in my oppinion to clean the ocean will take alot of time and money i think its an cheaper alternative to stop the plastic from entering the ocean just like the inteceptor of the ocean cleanup company

    UA-cam has taken world movements out of the hands of corporate bosses and the 1%. These two might be the 1% tbh but they are just different than businessman and politicians. Love this movement and how much traction its gained. Need a lot more projects just like this

      Ocean clean up is a ( unintentionally) just a feel good effort, it's not effective at doing anything against the problem of plastics in the ocean.
      Over the multiple years of being active they have removed less plastic then gets put into the ocean in less then a day.

    Definitely need to find a way to get the massive companies that contribute to this problem to invest in the cleanup. Companies like Coca Cola, Pepsi, P&G, etc.

      This whole thing is bs tbh. Is garbage in the sea a problem? Sure, but the real issue that is wiping out aquatic life by hundreds of millions every year is overfishing. The fishing industry is the most brutally violent and destructive practice human beings partake in and the crazy part is they’ve managed to pollute and destroy the entire ecosystems at such insane levels but some how convinced every day people that it’s our fault and we need to drink out of paper straws to solve the problem.

    I’m so surprised how dedicated and how many people decided to pick as many trash as possible from the sea for the survival of our earth.
    It’s always been bothering me, thinking we’d never get trash from the sea.
    This really is an amazing miracle. Unfortunately I do not have any money or a bank account considering how young I am. But I will be sharing this video to as many people as I can, and doing my part.

Getting us 'normal people' involved, it creates a thought process which hopefully means a larger number of people will refrain from making this worse or doing it again...

      @@kuki2349 While I agree with that, the fact that someone like Elon Musk could literally fund this whole operation or even set up a whole team/unit with robots with only a small portion of his money... Yet he is designing ships to leave the Earth instead of saving it. At least Tesla seems like it's beneficial to the Earth but I read somewhere that electricity still takes fuel to generate which then creates its own pollution.

      17 ,000,000,000 pounds of trash are put into the ocean every year, 30 ,000,000 pounds will make no difference whatsoever especially when you consider this is not ongoing or expanding like the input of trash into the ocean, this is a one-time thing.

      @@bmxscape it is still a good start. You just want to make it into a negative thing when what they’re doing is spreading awareness. The goal is to make the ocean have less plastic waste.     I really love how Mr Beast is able to reach such a large audience that he is able to address these environmental problems we are facing and pull people together to find a solution. I believe that the internet has caused us to underestimate the people around us and because of that, nobody wants to be that first voice who starts the change. Mr beast was willing to ask for $30m and because of that, and his large following, he very well may get that money and make a huge change (and if he gets less he still puts it towards the job proposed). He isn't the only person/company capable of doing this on such a large scale and I would love to see it continued. Even when it comes to resolving small community issues, I feel like sometimes humans aren't open enough about the problems to come to a solution.

      But this is nothing?? Removing less trash than the human race dumps into the ocean in a day isn’t a victory, it’s a comforter.
      We need bigger change than this, and influencers with these huge platforms could mobilise millions of people if they wanted to. Despite good intentions, without changing anything about how we live, this will ultimately accomplish nothing

    Having a better understanding of how the ocean effects us definitely helped me wrap my head around the "why" factor. I don't have my own money, but I do live right next to a beach, so I'll go on the shore whenever I have the time to pick up some trash once or twice a week. Thank you for the motivation, science.

    This makes me hopeful, because as a kid born around 2010, I have almost given up hope that world governments will do anything at all to stop climate change. Every week, I go to the library and check out books about climate change and what I can do, except I am a kid, so I can’t do much. But I do donate a lot of my allowance to climate charities!
    Also, something that I want to address is this quote from a book: “Older generations keep on saying that we ought to give the younger generations hope. But we don’t want you to do that, we want you to panic and to actually DO something!”
    Just wanted to share that quote that I wholeheartedly agree with.

      I hope that as you are growing, you are doing more research on who you are supporting
      Mr. Beast for example, shouldn’t be someone you support simply because he has no idea how to actually stop the issues he says he is helping fix.
      With team seas, 30 million pounds of plastic was removed, which sounds amazing, until you learn 90 million pounds of plastic are dumped into the ocean each day.
      This means not even a day’s worth of plastic was removed from the ocean, and he failed to address the root cause (hold corporations accountable and lobby governments to make them fine said corporations)

    It’s insane to me how companies have brainwashed consumers into thinking that it’s their responsibility to clean up the mess that said companies made.     I remember when plastic packaging was the exception rather than the rule. Everything was packaged in metal, glass, or paper packaging, and it worked just fine. It was all completely recyclable or biodegradable. So why not just GO BACK TO THAT????
    I honestly don't mind paying a 5 or 10 cent deposit on a glass bottle that can be returned after usage, and get my dime back.

    Fun fact: The ocean is actually the world's largest carbon sink, which means that it absorbs more CO2 than anything on the planet; this is due to tiny microorganisms called phytoplankton (algae, tiny plants, etc) that photosynthesize. The ocean absorbs more CO2 than the amazon rainforest.

    In the electrical industry, all lighting is become integrated, which means whe the light breaks the whole fitting goes in the bin. We used to be able to replace the light bulbs.
    So sad.
    And yes I know old fittings can be recycled. But we all know that doesnt happen.

      It's not even close to be enough, but the thing is, projects like this creates traction, and the more people start engaging in such projects, more companies will start putting money on it because their reputation will benefit from it, so it creates a loop of helping the planet, that's why "small"( I know 30 million USD is not small, but you get it ) projects help a lot.

      Its not just the money, its the 100 million views these videos will get across hundreds of UA-cam channels, getting attention from lots of people, some will stop littering, some will join cleanups, some may become scientists or conversationalists.

    i like how removing 30 million pounds has such minuscule impact they didn't bother showing us what it would be. This video is clickbait and completely fails to provide any concrete numbers like the title suggests it will

      Yup that’s the problem, the money could have been used to fix the root of the problem but instead they remove 34 million pounds of plastic which sounds impressive but 90 million pounds of plastic enter the ocean a day, meaning not even a day’s worth of waste was removed

    Additionally, maintaining the health of the ocean can accelerate the healing of the ozone layer, more than what the Montreal Protocol has done! Ozone (O3) is actually oxygen!

      An influencer is one that has influence and easily affects their audience (primarily into action). As long as that is satisfied, you are a "true" influencer. Whether you think their cause is good, bad, neutral or a waste of time doesn't make an influencer any less "true" than any other.

      Yeah sure, "no show off". All his videos are based on flexing how much money he has, his thumbnails are full of luxury cars. He has a full on fast food chain and has the luxury to ask his friends (who are also millionaires) what type of burger they want named after them. Cleaning oceans is the least they could do. And it'd be wonderful if they did this more often, not once in years.
