- The Shops at Santa Anita is a super-regional shopping mall located in Arcadia, California, adjacent to the Santa Anita Race Track, formerly known as Santa Anita Fashion Park and Westfield Santa Anita.
I grew up in neighboring city Monrovia in the '80s, so I used to frequent this mall about once or twice a month as a kid.
Kay Bee Toys, B.Dalton Bookseller, Video Concepts, and Musicland were some of the places I remember going into.
There was also once a Bob's Big Boy restaurant and a deli called "The Belly Buster" that served delicious submarine sandwiches.
I fondly remember watching "Return Of The Jedi" three times at the General Cinema movie theater. Good Times!!!!!
thanks for sharing those awesome memories
The Magic Pan and Tinderbox. Saw Back To The Future there, along with Breakfast Club.
I worked at Musicland and Mashala's Deli, across from it. 😊
I moved from Ohio to Arcadia by myself in 1976 at age 18. The very first place I inquired a job was a piano and organ store called Accent Music. I am a keyboardist and they hired me to play the organ up front and lure older people over, usually eating ice cream cones, so that they could be approached by one of the salespeople. I later worked at the Vroman's book store in the mall. I have many great memories of working there and all of the people I met. I left LA in 1981, but the memories of the Arcadia mall will always be with me.
I worked in Mashala's Deli and Sam Goody's Musicland during the early 90s , in this mall. Now, I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland. My, how times change! Thanks for this time capsule! 👍
My favorite mall I've been here a few times every year.
SOB, I said 5, I'm never going to get a perfect score on these. And I watch these videos like it's the Superbowl.😭😭😭
Good try! Keep watching and you will get it. Actually here is a hint, when you see the "store closed stamp" just count those. Those are the anchor stores that are closed.
LMAO!
My mom worked at The Broadway for over 35 years there, & when it became Macy’s , until she turned 75!
I was a waitress at Mashala's, right outside of the Broadway on the bottom level. I'd probably served your mom, when she'd have come in during her break times. I served MANY girls who worked there, over my two-year tenure at the Deli. 😊
The old food court had a sandwich spot called ‘BELLYBUSTER’….
Buffums closed in 1991 when the chain went out of business and nordstrom built its own store in 1994
I never heard of one where they used Fashion Park instead of Mall. I've noticed that a lot of times when they re-name malls they call it The Shops At so-and-so. I don't know if it's because they think that it makes it sound more high-class, or if it's just because malls have gotten a bad name so they figure if they just call it something else people will be fooled into thinking it's not really a mall. Lol!!!
Santa Anita mall thank you so much this was my hometown mall even my parents remember buffums , Broadway, JCPenney and Robinsons i remember the carousel while my parents remember the waterfall and american dream mall unlike today it's more likely foreign i love how old malls have a feeling unlike today they look so cool from the aesthetic, design and details i realized the expansion was created during the early 90s but later belongs to the arcadia Library archives God bless you Eric do you know this mall
Yes, some of the live footage that you see in the mall is from me when I visited it last month. Thanks for your suggestion and sharing your nice family memories.
@@EricCProductions76 wait can you released the footage to us
@@ryan24a73 The footage of me walking around the mall and the modern pictures were taken on my phone. I usually delete them when I am finished making the video. Do you have an email? I will see if I can find some of the footage and send it to you.
@@EricCProductions76 Yes i do but how can you send it
@@ryan24a73 I will send you the video clips via email.
I am bummed you skipped the mid 80s. In the center of the mall they had a giant replica of First Flight hanging. Below that were these wood people you could climb on. I have not been able to find any photos of that era from the middle.
sorry my friend
I remember that little playground!
The mall still exists with jc penney still open 2024
I was going to say this mall next but never mind ya it rare when I go to this mall because is really huge I like to shop here it has a McDonald’s so I can eat their but their are so many people in the mall that makes harder to shop and also can you do Plaza at West Covina?
