    ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this UA-cam journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

I grew up with a creative mother who painted realism, and love Norman Rockwell. For a long time that’s what I thought art was supposed to be to be. Now in my 60’s I am studying botanical illustration, but I also like to take photos in nature and add creatures in that are fanciful. First did that with procreate, then my daughter asked me to paint a couple pieces to hang on our granddaughter’s nursery wall. They were mountains, forests, with Faerie folk and dragons. I loved it. Now I am watching your videos for better ways to mix colors, tips, hacks, paint brands, and now going to see what I can do. 🤞🏻🤞🏻Thank you!

I really enjoy your take on art. This was very helpful. When I was a quilter it took my teenage son to tell me that I have a quilt style. It just happened naturally without me noticing. Now that I'm dabbling in watercolor I find the same thing is happening. And ironically colorful "quilts" keep showing up in my landscapes. It's all about the journey.

This resonated with me. When I started using watercolor years ago, I became frustrated because I didn't understand how to handle it. Years later, after watching hundreds of UA-cam videos, taking classes, and trying different brands, I found that in the past year, I realized I didn't want to paint in anyone else's style. I was painting more in my style. At first, I panicked a bit, but then I realized this was a natural progression. Thanks so much for clarifying this for me. I enjoy your channel, and your art is stunning.

Wow! This is so helpful. For many years I have had a passion for colours that I seldom see in others' works, and then, only rarely. I have suppressed this and have done everything to avoid those colours in my artwork. (I am an amateur, not professional.) Now, thanks to your marvellous encouragement, I am going to start pursuing this passion and see where it takes me. I am inspired - and it's all thanks to you. (I appreciate your openness, honesty, your sense of humour, and your delight in sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us. So grateful I found your channel!)

I’ve always been drawn to bright, bold colours and when I taught myself to draw portraits I learnt initially by using a whimsical style. I naturally evolved into more bold looking realistic portraits and my style was drawing and painting beautiful bold females using oil pastels or soft pastels. A few years later and I’m learning watercolour and finally having success. But I’ve steered clear of portraits so am trying all different subjects while learning. I know what my colour preferences and bright style will be, just not decided on the subjects yet. My watercolour ability needs to catch up with my vision but am loving the practice.

    Hello Margot,
I enjoyed very much your thoughts and oppinions. Thank you very much. You give me strength to go on my way) I paint watercolours nearly all my life. I painted more than 700 pictures with W+N and Sennelier. You are right. At least for me this are my most beloved colours))
My field is totally different from you. I paint portraits, figures and historical legends. In moment I paint the oldest legends of world. The legend of Inanna future know as Isis, Aphrodite, Venus, Maria.... and history of Sumers people. Your thinking is refreshing and I love to hear your thoughts.
I go on my way, thanks to you Margot))
I studied "Business Administration" and spend all my life in Industry....but painting was all my life my 2 nd. home))
Thank you Margot)) Thank you very much, I have several hobbies, beside my profession. Painting, Photograpie, Yacht sailing on Ocean.....
Thank you, that you brought all up in mind)) Thank you very much Margot

I love the "what I would wear" analogy! Also I thought I leaned more towards simplistic/silhouetted people because I was scared of not getting it right, but now I realize I actually like it better. No harm in not focusing on stuff I’m actually not that inspired by!

I got hung up on this idea for a while, and it became one more arrow of self-criticism. Thankfully, I'm not a professional artist and don't aspire to be....I paint for the pleasure of it, and to challenge myself with learning new things. One day I may paint flowers, the next I will be urban sketching, another day I'm into abstract landscapes. I don't see a "style" running through it, but I've quit caring! If there truly are no rules -- at least for those of us who don't need to sell our creations -- then there is no need to find (or manufacture) a specific style. Yay to that!

    Hi Margot 😊
I’m not sure if I even have an art style , I literally just create what I feel like as and when I feel like it 😁
This video is so super useful and helpful for me - I actually understand now and have something to shoot for and one of my items on my board will be one of your simple ballet monochrome dancers piece you show in this video and other videos I’ve watched from you. Why? Because I like the simplicity of it and the fluidity of it which is what I’m trying to achieve when I try to draw figures. I find the stick figure looks so much more fluid and relaxed before I then start fattening it up to make it look more realistic because people expect them to be realistic…… I don’t even create realistic pieces but I get caught up trying to please others I guess.

All of your videos, whether new or old, have been an absolute inspiration to me, Margot. I'm not sure I have a style yet; I'm still trying to gain some mastery of the most essential fundamentals of acrylic painting. I'm not limiting myself only to acrylics; it's just the current step on my path. I'll probably never draw or paint long-legged ballerinas with poofy tutus, but I do hope to one day develop my own style with the human form. I recognize that I need to develop proficiency first. I think that will probably be my biggest challenge, especially since I can't even draw an elbow or a knee at this point!

I love to look at different styles of art but automatically I like to paint with bright colors and I like to portray a 3D element and dimension in my art. I’m an intermediate amateur and I’m not looking to turn a whole painting into a 3D masterpiece (that will take decades of practice), but I like an element in my paintings to exhibit 3D. I think my style is part illustrative and part realistic, not sure really, and I like clean lines. I like to use a ruler when drawing/painting straight lines in a building and find it very hard to do it freehand. Interesting video, thank you!
