    This reminds me of when my first “builder” on my turbo Hayabusa put in 13:1 pistons instead of 8.5:1 and nearly blew it up 🥴 wishing you the best of luck

    I'm afraid your at fault 🤚 , you did not check the clearances with that new cam shaft which is not smart . Passing the blame is easy but silly when we can see the cylinders obviously had no compresion to fire the fuel mix which suggests the valves were held open to begin with , lift those buckets off and show us how the two collits have come out . And if the company that did the job did so incorrectly how then did there no other valves ping loos . Go back and check your cams as they are the odd one out from the stock motor . And after all has been checked and the valve clearances were OK and the cams are OK then yes may be it on them but don't jump the gun so quickly

    I'm not a mechanic and doing a complete rebuild top and bottom on a Triumph 955...watching you go through this gives me some hope not to be discouraged and expect things to go wrong and push through. Keep up the goo work!

    15:09 You boldly state this had nothing to do with you. As the engine builder, why would you not check clearances? Why would you not double check the work of anyone else who touched a component..
    Sorry to disagree with you but the buck stops with you. You are ultimately responsible for the entire build. Speculation after the fact is useless. You don’t know if it was assembled incorrectly because you didn’t check. You didn’t even check valve clearance, which you admitted you should have done. Tough lesson for sure but blaming someone else when you are the builder just won’t cut it. I truly hope you learn from this mistake.
    I’ve paid the price not checking other people work when I was building bikes many years ago. I took responsibility because I was the builder.

    13:00 Looks to me like Chase is starting to see through the bullshit.
    First I saw the whole ducati brake caliper blame game, now this guy blaming and pointing fingers again. Seems like one hell of a liability given how much the USA loves court cases for negligence and these bikes are being given away.
    Didn't he take the cams out when he had the head on the bench? Sounds like someone didn't check everything before assembly. Did he even check the squish with plastigauge?

    You have to check valve clearances but you also have to check piston to valve and you should degree the cam and make sure it is where it should be. If you can't do these simple steps maybe stay out of the engine. Or at least stay in the wheelhouse of all OEM components.

    “” I’m going to bolt this engine back together without checking anything and hope it works!! “. - “ oh no someone at the machine shop hasn’t seated the valve collets properly, but I wouldn’t know because I didn’t check anything !!!… The thing sounded like a bag of spanners when it eventually fired! , Up!.. but apparently had a good steady idle!! “ not what I heard “ Checking work as you go means you can put stuff right as you go - not wait until the whole thing is back together, and wonder when it blows up….at what point it all went wrong….. everyone makes mistakes but basic checks on a freshly assemble engine atleast give you a fighting chance of avoiding this carnage…. Great entertainment! . I haven’t laughed so much in ages

    I refuse to believe it's the machine shop fault that caused this. You as the main person who built that engine should've checked everything at least twice before that first start up.

    This guys videos are perfect for showing you how NOT to build an engine, the main problem with that engine is letting that guy work on it, i just watched a video on a good mechanics page and he showed you trying to remove the cams which took you almost 9 minutes, if only you had seen the bolts holding the cam sprockets on you would have got them off sooner. i have never felt sorry for an engine more in my life than i feel for this one, also i laughed so hard at trying to force them off with a srewdriver lol you should NEVER be allowed to work on an engine ever again.

    I always do my valve shims with engine in bike on both my CBR's. You do still have to tear it down pretty far but if the bike is already together it's for sure easier to do it where it is.
    I have a 1999 CBR 900RR and a 2015 CBR 1000RR Repsol edition. Love a Honda CBR!!!

      Yeah! But you have to be able to get close enough to the bike to see the cams!! This guy has issues standing close to anything….. funniest video I’ve seen for a long time!!!

    OC: I think the hardest lesson I have learned is not to trust people to do the job correctly. Not to sound harsh, I would have removed the buckets and would have checked all the work that had been done. Minimally I would have checked the valve keepers because they are so easy to install incorrectly. As a side point, I trust people so little, that I consistently walk into a store and open the boxes to make sure everything is in it. Yah, it has gotten that bad!
    On the opposite side, I totally agree with you all. You shouldn't have had to check anything on the head, but once again we see the one part you did not touch is the one part that failed. The great thing is that if the company wants to know how the motor was built you could show him or her all the videos and how meticulous you were through the whole process.

    OC: When it comes to engines, I don't trust any "professional" to do their job. If I don't do 100% of the work, I ALWAYS verify everything, and then check it again.

    Having been in a similar situation with an engine built by another shop.
    Good job keeping it cool on camera. Hopefully they stand behind their work and get you guys fixed up with as little hassle as possible

    OC, that shit happens sadly, you can only check so much on a part that is handed to you with a promise that is put together good. This should be replaced in warranty 100%, every part that is damaged should be replaced free of charge, even the parts that head-shop didnt work on but are damaged due to their failure.

    From my experience, this could of been saved by checking the valves and clearances after the work it's had done. The shop is partly to blame, most of it will down to yourself. Of course you would assume its good, however, double check first.
    Good luck rectifying it.

I may not recover from all, but I'm sure as hell learned a lot from them. So now I know what to do and what not to do. Making better decisions since

    Lol I blew my CBR250R 's motor couple days back
    and it was bone stock, for some reason it decided to drink all its engine oil and go kaput while I was doing 75mph and was 100 miles away from home :)
    I feel bad for you boys, I have been following this build from the start
    Can't wait to see it run🤙

    OC, that's one helluva setback boys. I can imagine how frustrating that must be to be so close and then get punched in the gut like this. I would be livid as well, and I'd definitely need a day to get my head right before calling or emailing the company. That being said, mistakes happen and hopefully they'll take responsibility and make it right. But be prepared for a fight. Best of luck boys. Been following this for a minute so I'm invested.

    OC, I would be livid. You pay a "professional" to do a job, you expect professional results, results you shouldn't have to go behind and check to make sure the job was done right. Next episode, we get to find out if they stand by their product and make this right, and not just with the head, but with the other damage as well. It's not how you respond when everything is right, it's how you react when something is wrong that denotes a good business worth dealing with.

      @@craigprosser9554 Problem stated was the keepers were not installed properly and that is how they came out and dropped the exhaust valves. Thats hard to believe they (head builder) missed that. Best of luck with the warranty claim. At least the cylinder looks as if it never fired. That should help your case. OC

    OC: This shows me how complicated engines really are. Its not just throttle and clutch on/off. There is a lot more going on with every rotation. Swiss clockwork this is. So when it works it is a true magic that should be appreciated. I know how bad feelings this create. But think about how this big rock will just fall off and roll away when this bike is finished :-). I also think Brian deserves the first ride :-)

One thing is coping with the bike, and the have to think about filming, angels, explaining, editing and so on. All of you are awesome! Love this series and all other videos!     I noticed yall are using Driven D-AXIS grips. They are nice and grippy. However, be advised that the stud texture does wear down rather quickly. I had a pair on my MT-07, and they lasted about 20 rides before the pattern started to smooth out towards the inner grip area.

    As a mechanic in training when you said this is worst case scenario i felt that in my soul i am aware this will most likely happen one day in a shop and im gonna have to deal with it my heart goes out to you brother best of luck and i really hope the company that did the work makes it right there is no excuse for that i have now seen ppl who have never seen the internals of an engine before measure, check and set valve clearance that's absurd.

    OC: Livid would be an understatement. The bike we had when I was young was a CBX that we had to replace the head when the previous own missed a shift and turned the valves on cylinder 3 into a disaster. Definitely "no bueno". Beau doesn't have enough censor sounds for all the words I would have gone through.

    Man my guy did not look happy to do all that dissembling, I’m sure he was thinking we should’ve just built the engine ourselves top down, sometimes this is why it’s better not to trust shops anymore, I hope they comp you for the damage and time on your end

    How is the cylinder head wall on the damaged piston cylinder? Does it look like any bits got out into the recirculation oil system? Might be worth checking the oil pump.....if you're gonna try to put this engine back together!

    OC: the keepers can come out if your timing is off and the piston hits the valves - which you didn’t seem to check. Especially since only one bank was damaged :/

      What kind of professional completely fails to check valve lash AND piston to valve clearance then won't admit he fucked up and even lies about the cause of the issue? I would be mad to him, not whoever did the work on the head. The only reason the company would compensate anything is out of sheer pity and good exposure because of youtube.

    OC: I know that pissed off frustrated feeling. Rebuilding a 74 Triumph Bonneville. I had the engine fully rebuilt by a proven professional engine builder. Spent tons of money. First fire up and ran for like 5 secs then BOOM.

    I would be so angry and frustrated yet at the same time relieved that it wasn't my own work however super disappointed in that shop that did the work.
    The bike will run someday soon and when it does it will be legendary just keep at it brother we all got your back

    Wow that would suck to be a customer of this master mechanic. He needs to clear himself. He needs some milk. We actually started our bike build at the same time. I've been racing it for like two years now. You want me to come over and fix it for you? I can because I actually look at the components before I do the work and won't blame it on the last guy.

    OC: I think it’s a gorgeous bike and once it gets fixed I’d love to have it in my garage next to my tracer…. But in saying that I would be Pissed if I put all the work in a motor that y’all have just for it to drop the pistons like that

    I feel your pain Brian two days after watching the last video my bike started making a knocking sound 😰 turns out it was a shot bottom end bearing😔 I really wasn’t happy 😆

    OC. Gutted dude. What an absolute gargantuan ball-ache. Semi-good news is it was the "professional's" mistake and you should be able to chase them for every penny spent on that hunk o junk. Though frankly, that's equally as annoying of a process... Good luck 🤞 !

    Why he let the bike run for that long and on top of it he was revving it. I have a SC59 on which I am working right now which had the same problem as this. All the exhaust valves keepers opened all valves bent. The manual says you need to tap the top of the valve stem with the help of a punch and a light hammer 2-3 times in order to seat the cotter/keepers.
