It seems that Way of the Winter introduced some changes (or maybe even bugs 🐞) that affect how certain items like lights, toys, and radios work in this build. My guess is that it still works fine on Manibus, but not on Way of the Winter (I’ve transferred, so I can’t test it directly 😅). If it’s a bug, it might be fixed in a future patch 🔧. Otherwise, you might need to make some adjustments to the structure, like moving some items outside the walls or shifting the lights so they're not blocked by walls. The build can still work, but you’ll need to sacrifice a few extra slots for more lights 💡 or place deviations more strategically. I’ve noticed several other bugs or issues with deviations lately, so it’s possible that this is just a temporary glitch 🤞. Let’s hope for a fix soon! I’ll update this pinned comment if I find out more or when things change. 👍
In the growth stage, if you don't water your plants and they have no light, they will stay forever. And the growth stage is enough for pleasing the deviants. Then you can ignore the mushrooms. Just don't have the water guy.
Couldn't quite tell how high up you had the lights, but I had to bring them to the level of the plants and put them on all four corners. I was trying to test the AC unit and the heating unit to see if that would work. The AC unit seems to work fine, but overpowers the heating unit. Was nice to test though.
With the WoW Scenario, I just put a Cooling Fan and a Heater around 4 tiles apart. The 3x3 may be gone but if you put it on your house, maybe it's possible. Costs electricity though but the lowest temp (4 watts) is enough.
@@zero604 Hey! 😊 The concept works (heat boundary, etc.), but some changes had to be made to make it fully functional. The overall temperature in your territory affects the deviations, preferring either cold or hot in WoW. (Although, it’s a bit buggy.) Here’s what you need to do: place a heater on one side and a cooler on the opposite side. Think of it like this: if the main building is a 3x3 grid, you need to add an extra piece of foundation on each side: X X X N X X X N X X X Where N represents the new foundation slots with walls around them, and that’s where you place the heater/cooler. 🔥❄ You’ll need to tweak the positioning of the heaters and coolers to form the heat boundary. However, keep in mind that in some temperatures, it won’t be possible to make both hot- and cold-prefering deviations happy. For example, if your territory is in a -10°C environment, I haven’t been able to make heat-preferring deviations happy at all. 😅 Also, coolers completely override heaters if they’re placed too close. For instance, when I was in a +40°C environment and placed a cooler set to -20°C, I could make cold-preferring deviations happy, even though the total temperature was +20°C. But when I placed a cold-preferring deviation in a +5°C environment, it wasn’t happy. 😔 Oh, and about the lights: they don’t pass through walls in WoW. So, I just placed new ones where needed. 💡 Hope this helps! 😊
@@BrightEyedLemmings thanks for the detailed explanation, is the new cooler and heater in addition to the fridge and forge or do we even need those anymore
@@zero604 No problem! 😎In WoW, you can actually just skip them. They don’t seem to make much of a difference (if any) at least for me. All my setups in WoW have only used the cooler/heater. 👍
Using half walls, small walls and other small pieces, you can make this base smaller, and more elegant. Not critisising the work, I'm actually impressed. I was just thinking that I could invert this process, and have my deviants in a recessed floor area. The overall size will remain the same, but it should work for open plan bases. Use the technique builders use for the kitchen countertops. I've been doing something similar with the sloped roofs and half walls, creating a raised section that can be used as a shelf, if you wanted. The sloped roof just joins perfectly and looks satisfying to me, only reason to mention it.
@@jasonrouse8215 Thanks a lot! 😃Great ideas! Yeah, it should be quite easy to integrate it 👍 The recessed floor area with deviants around a sunken pillar sounds super cool! 🔥👍😃
I think you can reduce the height needed by making one side half wall the putting small cieling for and the fridge furnace being in the middle too but i dont know if itll work since you said heat can override the fridge?
Just a heads up for anyone watching this after the Way of Winter update, for hot and cold temp deviantions, fridges and furnaces dont work anymore. Its now based on ambient temperature, rather than being near a fridge/furnace
I see that's why on other scenarios if it rains the warm temperature gone, and when sunny it comes back again; and if raining there's cold temp, else gone. furnace and fridge no longer required unless it's neutral weather iguess
I don't think this is correct. I put a "Rain Man" on the furnace side and he didn't have low temp. Moved him to the cold side and gucci.I then deleted the fridge and he lost the low temp buff. Tar Pudding and Canine Skull also lost the low temp buff when I deleted the fridge. In the final test, I just moved my rain man across the thermal divide. He lost the low temp buff. Moved him back over and "pop"!
Sadly, lights don’t seem to shine through walls in Way of Winter 😅so you’ll need to add a few more lights around the securement units to keep them happy! 💡

Kind of like a sunken pillar with the deviants around it, that is about 1/4 floor deep, so that the tops of the containment units are visible.

does it cancel the heat and cold when u put the fridge and the furnace close to each other?
thats why he has a gap, and said "thermal boundary"
