- 1991 Jeep YJ with a refurbished Mercedes OM617 turbo diesel conversion. The Jeep was a basket case 1 1/2 years ago. Originally white then dark green and now PeterBilt orange. Great fun to drive. A small thread on the build: www.dieselbombers.com/show-tel...

Nice, looks OEM, like they were made for each other.
So clean! That is an absolute thing of beauty you have created!!!
Wow great ride! I'm doing the swap on a good old 90 cherokee xj hope mine comes out as clean as yours!
Beautiful conversion!
It's probably a BEAST off-road probably can pull itself out of anything!
Nice clean jeep I am doing the swap on a jeep 1988 Comanche using om617.951 hope it turns out as clean as yours
Love the way it sounds....
Very clean, great job man. But I'm most impressed with your throttle response, that is crisp!!! I put one in my LR Discovery and it's nowhere near that.
I thoroughly cleaned the manifolds before powder coating. Also did away with the exhaust gas recirculation system. The only other thing engine mod. wise is the removal of the ALDA on the injection pump. This is what would make a big acceleration difference...
Super clean!
I just bought a cj6 with a 240d in it. should be interesting. I pick it up in a few days.
Love it!
thankyou sir
How did you make it look so clean. No power steering. No a.c. no egr throttle cables. Everything
No shaking!

I am wanting to do this swap in a willys 3a flat fender
My swap is on my channel almost done. I would really like it if you gave me the specs to make the throttle cable adapter.
nice clean job . did you use original fuel tank
+Chris Glista Yes, stock 15 gallon plastic tank. I thoroughly cleaned it inside and removed the stock fuel pump assembly. No problems with it or the conversion:)
What set up did you do for then engine to shut off in need of advice for my 92 jeep wrangler om617 turbo diesel swap i bought off someone
I have a few questions is there a way to contact u directly? I’m doing a swap and it’s not to a Jeep but a Suzuki Vitara which I’ve already hit many walls, but not that I can’t overcome!
what transmission did you use? how long did it take to do this? did you use same fuel tank? very nice . plenty of room in the jeep and looks grate. i have a 1995 wrangler 4 cylinder 3hundred thousand miles and still going, but using oil and not as Pepi as it once was . i am thinking of trying this with ax 15 tranny also what about the computer?
.
Used the stock AX-5 though I rebuilt it. Stock 15 gallon fuel tank as it also already had a return fuel line. AX-15 is a much better choice. OM-617 Benz was last model before electronics so it is all mechanical. I get 22-24 mpg all around town driving:)
did you have to get a adapter plate for ax5 and where did you get it? OH! thanks 4 your response as i am sure you get a lot of questions about what you have done, very nice job !!
Read through the link listed above for a thread I have on the dieselbombers forum. It will explain a lot as to the build and who I bought what from:)
If you removed the stock fuel pump did you add another fuel pump? Or is the engine pulling the fuel. Thanks. Awesome build
Removed and cleaned the stock 15 gallon plastic tank. Removed the stock fuel pump and just extended the pick-up tube. The Mercedes lift pump is all that is needed and it is nice the stock Jeep already had a return line and all on the proper side too, worked great!
hey what i recommend is you lose that air filter the little cap in the center can come loose and get sucked into the trurbo compressor wheel if the filter gets dirty enough ive seen it happen in modified turbo setups pushing considerable boost so maybe im being hyper sensitive on the issue
the stock airbox out of the tj works great and would sit right where the jack is. I have soaked the entire engine bay and not sucked up water with that box its a good design
Nice to know, thanks!
how hard would it be to install ac on this set up?
How is the power compared to the stock 4.0 gas? Is it significantly better?
less torque than the 4.0 , but that is where your transmission and differential gearing comes into play ( TREMEC 4050 heavy duty 5 speed tranny is perfect for this engine )
Where did you put your oil cooler ?
Doesn't need one so I run a small looped connection.
is it for sale
Can I contact u on info of the swap
is it car-like in its power band? what's the mpg?
+shylildude Powerband is very smooth. Torquey is probably the best word to use. Basically, 2nd gear is the new first gear. I couldn't be happier with it all.
+shylildude Oh, went from 14.5 mpg with the 2.5 gasser to 22-24 mpg with the Benz:) I do all around town driving too.
Love it !!!
