Thanks for the video review. Hoping your friends at Canon will loan you the RF 24 1.8 for a similar test on an R7. Like you I prefer the ~35mm field of view, which I'd essentially get with the 24. The reviews I've seen so far are on full-frame cameras, and I'm curious how much the camera adjustments for the reported softer corners and vignetting affect the final image in ASP-C.
Yeah, that’s what I want to find out!😊 I’ve seen people not being to impressed with the RF 24mm, but it might just be perfect on the R7s APS-C sensor 😊
I think Christopher Frost did a new test with the 35mm and the R7 and found that the sensor size of the R7 was a little more brutal on the image quality with the lens. I think the video you referenced is his initial review. That being said, what matters is how it’s applied in real life scenarios vs lab tests so take that with a grain of salt.
Great video Roger! I had the Rf 35 1.8 also when I had my R6. Totally agree with your points. Great lens for the price, specially in the RF eco system. I wonder what your experience would be using the RF 24mm on APSc. As a full frame lens the reviews on YT are not so great. Why did you sell your EOS R, if I may ask?
Hey! Glad you liked the video 😊 I hope I’ll be able to try the RF 24mm soon. I have also seen some reviews about the lens, but I would like to try it for myself before I make an opinion on it.. like I said in the video, the 24mm will act more like a 35mm on the R7 (38,4mm full frame equivalent to be exact), so it’s more in the focal length I enjoyed using on my EOS R. The reason I sold my EOS R is that I transitioned to Sony, so I sold all my Canon gear. But I found myself missing the Canon system so I got the R7 just to be able to play around with Canon gear in addition to my Sony cameras. Thank you for commenting 😊
@@RogerAVHansen Haha i like you 😀. Have to laugh because it’s exactly the same for me this week. I really enjoy my A7IV with the 35mm 1.4 (great deal as open boxed and amazing combo), but got myself an RP for 600€ this week after selling all my R6 and RF lenses. Reason for me is the same like you for me, keep playing around the Canon system with a low budget and „ultra“ compact full frame camera. I really enjoy the form factor with the RF 50mm 1.8 for casual photos at the playground 🙃 Keep rocking Roger!
Nice video this is the camera and lens I’m looking at as it’s the kind of photography I enjoy, how is it for night photography and Astro photography on the R7?
Haven’t gotten to try it out for that with the R7. I need my sleep at the moment, family and kids and all, but I did use it for night photos with my EOS R and that worked great 👍🏻
Hey Thomas! Thank you for watching 😊 I’m not into wildlife photography at the moment, not that much wildlife where I live except birds, but I have been thinking about trying it out. The RF 100-400 looks like a good budget option as a starter lens for wildlife, but I’ve been looking at the Sigma EF 100-400. The reason is that I can use that lens on my EOS R7 with an adapter, and I can use it on my Sony cameras as well with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. So if I’ll buy one I think I’ll go for the Sigma lens because of the versatility 😊 Thank you for commenting! 😊
I got the 100-400 recently, definitely love it! Sure, there's better and faster apertures, but it's so light! I take it with me soo often, way more than I'd bring a heavier telezoom. (Sigma60-600 for instance) Christopher Frost and Dustin Abbot both have great review videos up on YT! So till Roger gets his hands on one, I'd say check them out 👌
@@RogerAVHansen I'm hesitant about using a Sigma EF lens on a camera with RF mount. The Sigma 150-600mm for instance has focus breathing problems on RF cameras (or at least on the R7), as videos from Duade Paton show. Sigma also has a compatibility list where they say that mostly it's functional, but still, I'm a bit sceptical
hi I have a question I want to buy the RF 35mm f1.8 lens or the 50mm f1.8 for portrait and macro photography but I am not sure which is best for me I use the Canon R7 with the kit lens of 18-150mm
Maybe speedbooster viltrox is better option that use focal lens designed for other scenarios. 15mm is an angular lens but in apsc 22mm with crop but the image will have a lot of distortion in the corner (but crop help to hidde it) . With speed booster gain 1 full step of Aperture but it is only posible with ef lens . Sigma 35mm with speedbooster en canon r7 f1.4 to f1.2. Saludos desde Chile (I have r7 and r6 )
thank you for this video, I'm very undecided between rf 35mm and rf 24mm.. i like very much the bokeh on 35mm but i don't know how it is with 24mm, maybe with 24mm i have to go nearest to sobject for the same effect.. Did you ever try rf 24mm on R7?
Hi Roger got my R7 copy today haven't opted Kit lense since am coming from 6D M ii am sure won't like kit lense quality. RF 35 yes I have an eye on it. Am looking for a travel, night and General purpose lense. Am confused with RF 35 & RF 24 which one would you rate high to mount on my R7 ? Love from India. :-)
@@Rajupkd Hi! 😊 For a general “good for everything” lens, I think I would go for the 24mm f/1.8 if you want one prime lens. If you can afford it maybe the 16mm f/2.8 also. I’m currently trying the 14-35mm f/4 with the R7, a much more expensive lens, but with that lens you get all three prime lenses (16, 24 and 35) in one lens. But the aperture isn’t as fast unfortunately. Going to make a video about that lens soon 😊
@@RogerAVHansen thanks Roger fast lense is what am looking for ot looks 16 or 35 is much better than 50 MM considering crop factor. Anyways awaiting to see more videos , subscribed already. :-)
Hi Roger, I am planning to buy the R7... can you help me understand how the ISO performance is on the R7? How far can we push the ISO before it starts to show noise in the images.. especially for indoor photos with a regular room light.
Hi! 😊 I sold my R7 a while back, went all Sony for ease of use. But it’s not all up to the camera when deciding on what ISO to use, it also depends on what lens to use. If you use an f/1.2 you can keep a much lower ISO than if you use an f/5.6 for example.. so it’s not a straightforward answer to your question unfortunately 💁🏼♂️
It's pretty great. I got mine a few days ago and have been having a lot of fun practicing with it. Every shot is speculative on what you're setting up, but I've had no issue with ISO being a hassle up to 1200 1600 - which typically I never really go over 800 with my type of work, so I'm happy with it.
I'm really sorry but it is not possible to get closer than 0,17m with an apsc cam. It just looks bigger because of the crop,... Most of us will know about that, but basically it's wrong to say you can get closer to the subject,... 😉

Thats a better option than Sigma Art 30 1.4, cause it has IS and can be used in FFrame as well 👌
tested it on the set🔥🔥
Nice 👌🏻😊
I love the combo with an APSC + 35mm setup. I'm using the R7 with the EF 35mm F2 IS right now. So clean.
Try adapt EF 2.0 IS USM instead, it's optically better (minus the macro), and a much more sturdy construction with fully internal focusssing.
I bought 24mm 1.8 and it totally sucks for video. It is super noisy making a lot of knocking sounds. This does the same?

The AF speed is different between photo and video.. more snappy when taking photos, more (let’s call it) “cinematic” when filming
