The fellow is in clear cognitive and emotional decline, yet remains the leading candidate for his party and appears to have millions of mindless devoted minions ready to vote him in despite everything.

The source video quality seems to be not so great for some reason, it reaches about 720p level (in YT) at best and keeps popping heavy compression artifacts every now and then. And, as mentioned, no audio on the right channel.

That quote may be almost 100 years old. Doesn't that suggest it isn't a new idea but only a perception or even just an attitude? You could probably apply that quote to almost any time in history especially in times of crisis.
One of the biggest problems is what should be defined as good or evil. What do you use as the arbiter of good or evil? Religion, law or your personal take on both or neither?
Perhaps "doing nothing" in the larger sphere is better than doing something in an arena that can be chaos. Seeing to good actions closer to your immediate and more controllable concerns is better than adding to the commotion of a larger conflict where you may only be a pawn under the influence of much more ruthless and deceitful forces you can't understand to their depths. It may not be heroic but it might be far more stable for everyone in the long term. .

When I came to America as a legal immigrant, I worked my ass off to learn the language, the culture and respect the laws that we don't have back where I came from.

They do that because it saves them time. It’s one less task to have to worry about . So as they pump nasty mine water from inside the mine and up a vertical air shaft and into a settling tank outside on the surface, the water truck contractors just load up, then drive over the hill where the creek is, and dump it … then turn around and go back up the hill to load up more
That saves them the additional time and mileage of having to drive all the way to the preparation plant and back
I don’t agree with dumping that stuff into the streams. It’s not so much “toxic”, but more so the fact that sulfur and iron deplete oxygen from the water, which makes it uninhabitable for the fish

Tough sentences do work. In the U.k. there was a period of regular armed robbery's and police were threatened. A law came out that if a person points a gun at a police office a standard 25 year sentence was applied, it all stopped. Also five years ago acid attacks on people started happening and a minimum sentence of ten years was applied and that all stop to.
We know why acid attacks started happening.
Gun crime had alot more to do with border controls improving stopping major importing rackets. Uk being an island obvisouly helps. This then lead to old firearms being stole. That would work very well if voting day were a holiday and not a working day. If there were enough voting places for about 165 million people to vote in one single day - in elections that often have more than one choice. If there were no so many people living in farms, mountains, woods - in India, the voting apparatus are brought to people across the countryside - in the USA, it is expected you have a car or can make the expense. Also, for speed and safety, everybody should have an ID card with photo, signature and fingerprint, to prove identity when voting (and other legal situations), other than driver's license; not everyone drives. Also, the voter's registry should be automatic at 18 years old, not for every election, and shouldn't be lost in any circumstance. Maybe people in jail shouldn't vote, but once out, why not? With a federal ID card, no need to duplicate registries, no need to travel between states to vote, no need to purge registries. One American, one vote. Of course, get rid of the Electoral College, so the votes of everybody have the same value.
Do you see that making things work are a bit more complex than saying "I'll do it in one day," right? I suppose the healthcare system, better and cheaper than Obamacare is for the second day.

In Germany we do a 'cleaning day' once a year where volunteers clean the city collecting garbage from the streets and the parks.
In the last years the city administration organized a party with BBQ after cleaning for the volunteers and they could win some prices, like a bicycle.
And they organized garbage bags and container stations where people can dump what they collect.
Many hundred peope take part in this events and the city is much cleaner since then.
Maybe a model for US cities?
