- Understanding weather and weather data is critical for safe flying. The designated pilot examiner will expect you to know where to find weather information, how interpret the data, and how to use it for your for your planning. This video goes over some of the key areas needed not only for your checkride, but for your daily flying. Keep in mind, most weather-related crashes are fatal.
Make sure to checkout some of my other videos in this series including interpreting weather radar and understanding its limitations. - Авто та транспорт
Wow! I learned more about weather in this video than I have learned so far in all of my flight training! Thank you!
I highly recommend this video. Weather at the private pilot level is obviously not rocket science and a lot of people know their stuff, but this guy is pretty fantastic at explaining things really well and emphasizing what is important to know at the private pilot level. This will basically be all I plan to study on weather for my check ride.
I felt like I was watching the weather on the local news lol . Good video sir. I will be watching this every day up until my checkride. This is exactly how a DPE (in theory) would want it. Simple and concise. Only the important info. Nothing to get you rambling. Thank you!
JP should have many more subs. Waaaay underrated information. Thank you for these videos JP!
It’s amazing how things have changed since 1980. I was flying General aviation out of Palm Beach international. They had a weather station there, which I went to, before I was going to fly to Daytona Beach Florida. They said there was A front coming but I would have no trouble beating it, wrong. By the time I got to Stuart I was in the thick of it being a be a VFR Pilot I got radar following, and flew down the intercoastal waterway at a low altitude below the clouds until I got out of it. Lesson learned
Check ride on Wednesday - this was helpful to calm my nerves on how deep I need to go.
I am a student pilot and have been struggling trying to understand the difference between METARS and SIGMETS and the avalanche of data that 1800WXbrief gives you. Your video helped tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to make it!
I’m getting ready for my ppl checkride in 3 weeks and I feel pretty lost when it comes to the weather portion. I’ve really just done all my stuff locally so this is so helpful in showing the bigger picture and how to plan accordingly. Thanks and I can’t wait to watch all your videos! Thank you!!!!
Awesome! You read my mind. I just mentioned to my buddy the other night that I wished you would do a video on weather and the checkride. Thank you sir!
Appreciate you watching. I love sharing my weather knowledge and hopefully helping with checkrides.
Had been struggling with weather. Spent about an hour watching your weather videos and got it almost instantly. Thanks, checkride will be a breeze
"The majority of weather related accidents are fatal; the majority of weather related accidents are avoidable." Love this! Wonderful video, thanks for sharing! Also, can't help but chuckle at a meteorologist complaining that a computer model is often inaccurate. 😁😉
Great vid. I'm glad I stumbled on this. My checkride is less than 2 weeks away, this makes me feel more confident in what to study!
I am preparing for my PPL checkride on the 14th and have been struggling with water. Your videos have really helped. Thank you VERY MUCH! Tailwinds from New Orleans.
This is outstanding . I could not get my head around some parts of the weather until i found you. Thanks so much!
This video is amazing covering a vast array of pertinent checkride info. Awesome.
Greetings JP,
Home run ! I’m prepping for giving a ground lesson on weather and this video is extremely helpful!
Thank you for the effort in producing this much needed content.
Nothing short of great content always! Knowledge and passion!
Wow!! I have watched so many videos even binge watched these types of videos and you taught me so much in 1 video. Plus it was explained so well that it was easy to understand. I really appreciate it. I'm so very grateful. Thank you.
This is an excellent weather video all PPL students and pilots should watch. Thank you for making and posting this.
Hello from Phoenix, AZ.
These are some of the best weather videos for student pilots, thank you!
I wish I had seen this prior to my private checkride. It would have made the weather portion of the oral much easier. Now my instrument is coming up and I’m developing a good relationship with weather. Awesome video!
Funny seeing KNEW on your list of favorites, that's where I've been flight training! Great video btw!
Great video!
Thanks for insightful information, I appreciate it a lot.
Really love your video JP ! Hope you make some video for commercial checkride or new character/ airline pilots. Take care!
Instrument check ride coming up, helped a lot!
Great video, Very helpful.
Sir, excellent video JP. Learned a-lot within this 30 minutes clip.
so easy to understand. thank you!
Great video
Great video. Where could I buy that LED Metar map?

Lots of info on how to get weather reports, but there's a disconnect between having a ton of reports, charts, etc, and interpreting/understanding/using that info to get a good picture on the weather that I'll have in flight. Would love to see a worked example, showing how and what info is picked out for each stage of the flight, etc.
What is the best way to determine whether it's safe to fly without the risk of icing? Is temperature and moisture the only thing to take into account?
Thank you
What kind of weather do you expect, if the surface analysis chart is showing a yellowish orange dashed line
I have looked for a smart phone app from Leidos Flight Service but find nothing.
That spanish was brutal
thanks big up
The Ritchie Valens and Big Bopper crash…there was another guy on there, name of Buddy Holly haha
The legend
the METAR is generated every minute, not hour.....it only goes into the system once an hour.
