  • Understanding weather and weather data is critical for safe flying. The designated pilot examiner will expect you to know where to find weather information, how interpret the data, and how to use it for your for your planning. This video goes over some of the key areas needed not only for your checkride, but for your daily flying. Keep in mind, most weather-related crashes are fatal.
Make sure to checkout some of my other videos in this series including interpreting weather radar and understanding its limitations.

Wow! I learned more about weather in this video than I have learned so far in all of my flight training! Thank you!

I highly recommend this video. Weather at the private pilot level is obviously not rocket science and a lot of people know their stuff, but this guy is pretty fantastic at explaining things really well and emphasizing what is important to know at the private pilot level. This will basically be all I plan to study on weather for my check ride.

I felt like I was watching the weather on the local news lol . Good video sir. I will be watching this every day up until my checkride. This is exactly how a DPE (in theory) would want it. Simple and concise. Only the important info. Nothing to get you rambling. Thank you!

It’s amazing how things have changed since 1980. I was flying General aviation out of Palm Beach international. They had a weather station there, which I went to, before I was going to fly to Daytona Beach Florida. They said there was A front coming but I would have no trouble beating it, wrong. By the time I got to Stuart I was in the thick of it being a be a VFR Pilot I got radar following, and flew down the intercoastal waterway at a low altitude below the clouds until I got out of it. Lesson learned

I am a student pilot and have been struggling trying to understand the difference between METARS and SIGMETS and the avalanche of data that 1800WXbrief gives you. Your video helped tremendously. Thank you for taking the time to make it!

I’m getting ready for my ppl checkride in 3 weeks and I feel pretty lost when it comes to the weather portion. I’ve really just done all my stuff locally so this is so helpful in showing the bigger picture and how to plan accordingly. Thanks and I can’t wait to watch all your videos! Thank you!!!!

"The majority of weather related accidents are fatal; the majority of weather related accidents are avoidable." Love this! Wonderful video, thanks for sharing! Also, can't help but chuckle at a meteorologist complaining that a computer model is often inaccurate. 😁😉

I wish I had seen this prior to my private checkride. It would have made the weather portion of the oral much easier. Now my instrument is coming up and I’m developing a good relationship with weather. Awesome video!

Lots of info on how to get weather reports, but there's a disconnect between having a ton of reports, charts, etc, and interpreting/understanding/using that info to get a good picture on the weather that I'll have in flight. Would love to see a worked example, showing how and what info is picked out for each stage of the flight, etc.

What is the best way to determine whether it's safe to fly without the risk of icing? Is temperature and moisture the only thing to take into account?
