    The first video in the series is ua-cam.com/video/FhalxghloPw/v-deo.html what's your main takeaway so far from these videos? I'd love to know 😄

    Your voice is as soothing as your mastery of the craft. You’re like a sound design Bob Ross. Thanks for what you do

    My takeaway was the workflow: stick attack boost - boxiness removal - boosting some body back - "housekeeping" LC - adding air. Thanks again for the great video :)

    I'm so happy to witness the fact that you (as soon as a number is diplayed) have to go for whole numbers just like me. Whenever I "have" to go for whole numbers instead of something .2 or .8 or whatever, I curse the UI! Btw.: what you're doing here on UA-cam is outstanding!

    It's been great to subscribe to your channel and receive messages with links to you enlightening videos and courses. It does depress me, slightly as, my DAW, OS and plugin choices thusfar do not allow me to fully implement your advice. Due to low low budget constraints Been making due for years on home PCs running the mix-bus absent Audacity and standalone IK T-racks 5 mastering chains. Bringing stems over on SD cards from a Tascam DP-32 and prepping them in solo. Absolutely opposite of what you teach. Someday I'll get a system adequate to support plugins without crashing. Your video on low end staging has made a noticeable difference. Panning the kick and bass apart to separate them does make a lot of mid-side mud and that was helpful. Thank you!

      I'm glad you are enjoying the content and learning new things. Stock plugins can get you great results, no doubt but I'm guilty of enjoying using the more premium plugins for the extra creativity boost they give me. There are free alternatives out there for most of them, and loads of videos that recommend the best ones. So I hope that might be a workaround for you.

    Just like to say thanks for this EQ series, Sarah . I'm enjoying them very much. As a guitarist , this one in particular and liked the use of the Q on the HPF, i tend to set and forget! The scooping out @ 200-250 i also favour, as it nicely accommodates the snare in that region. Looking forward to the Acoustic guitar insights.
    Cheers
    Alex

    Thank you Sara, your channel is great. I always wonder what is the difference of doing this on Fabfilter Q3 instead of any Channel strip... saturation? So we all need saturation, on this channels strips they are integrated, in the eq as in a Drive knob, if you go the FabFilter way you need to add that later via Saturn2 or some dedicated drive plug in. Best regards!

    • @SaraCarterSimplyMixing
      @SaraCarterSimplyMixing  Рік тому +2

      Using a channel strip means you have to rely 100% on your ears. I think the visual aspect of digital EQ plug ins can affect your decision making, so in an attempt to make things easier and faster I chose channel strips in these videos. Thanks for your question!

    You got lucky with the snare fundamental. I looked at it and it's at 184 Hz or so. That's a little lower than I usually experience with a snare, typically in the 200-220 range. While the 180 Hz setting on this plug-in would still be the go-to for this range, it wouldn't be ideal. With that said, with such good graphic, precision parametric EQs available in these modern times, why would one unnecessarily cripple the effort with a 40-50 year old, decidedly less precision, less visuals, less intuitive tool? I know you claim that it makes the job easier BECAUSE OF the crude nature and fewer available controls. I just don't find that to be the case in my own experience.
    However, thank you for the detailed look at how to EQ a snare. Your presentation was outstanding.

    Love your attention to detail. However, since video is “for beginners” would be nice to see use of stock plugins. And many beginners are on other DAWs other than PT. I know the frequencies translate so it is good to name the frequencies as you do. Cubase user myself and stock channel strip can translate from what you are showing with SSL. Though it requires the Pro version, I just love Frequency the dynamic EQ of Cubase.

    • @SaraCarterSimplyMixing
      @SaraCarterSimplyMixing  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching and your feedback. The main takeaways I was aiming for were the frequencies and this method of limiting choices, that I think are transferable TBH. I don't own any other DAW's and there is a free Neve EQ plugin from Analog Obsession that beginners could check out for no extra cost. The kick video in this series used the SSL to show a similar but different workflow, so I'm trying to make this series have something for everybody! I'm glad you got something out if it though 😄
