Absolutely staggering that they managed to get the race going for over 150 years before 1993 and then the starting mechanism let them down. This wasn't a kids sports day. One of the biggest races in the world.
Very sad day for racing, I was there as I had been for the previous 11 years, I came back the following year and again in '95, '96 and the bomb scare year '97. I've been back to Aintree since '97 for supporting days but never again to my favourite race the Grand National.
The Grand National That Never Was. And I was there. Stood just past the Canal Turn with my Black & Red Manchester United umbrella. I only missed the year after because this one put me off from going. My last time there was in 1995.
I was missing my 1st national since I remember watching it in 1976 for a a swansea football game that was eventually called off so I got to watch the race.then it was void.the irony
If my memory is correct odds on the race not to run were in excess of 200:1 - odds on that the following year were much shorter. I don't think you could even bet on that now

A sport still governed by military hierarchy and hooray Henrys, most of whom were never serious professionals in racing and were nothing more than journeymen - they aren't for learning anything and seemed most put out when they were held to account for ruining the '93 National. Bowlers hats, tweed, rank corruption, bone ignorance and contempt of the public is their way of running racing. They didn't act on the Panorama corruption proof either which says it all. Rotten to the damned core. To top the lot they've downgraded the National course into a weaker test.

That wouldn't be the best idea, in all honesty. Racehorses are extremely sensitive and wired during a race and any sort of distraction like that might cause all sorts of chaos.
This is fucking hilarious 😂 Going on like its some great tragedy. "Dark day". Get a grip 😆 It's about as tragic as the Oscars La La Land/Moonlight debacle (I.e. not at all and maybe even quite a bit funny)

That tape was a nightmare. Compared to starts today I cant belive they expected 35 horses to line up quietly side by side for an even start.
Why?

you do know race horses have some of the best standards of care and vertinary treatment
They do need it... their exploitation you fool causes more deaths and injuries!!!

Should have run it in November
