I am building a similar setup. I am using a "Flashhobby D3530EVO 2808 1100KVRC Brushless Motor Reverse Shaft Support 3S-4S for Airplane ". The motor is mounted to the front bulkhead from the inside with the shaft protruding forward. I was thinking that the CG would be easier to achieve with the motor closer to it. I also lowered the outer panels as you did. We must think alike. How did yours fly?
I loved clear Monokote, 2 meter handlaunch.

Yes just a little bit of down thrust

Yes flown it several times flys very easy!
