  • A DIY tutorial for replacing the fuel pump and sending unit on the 2006 Nissan Murano. I used the proper tool for removing the retaining ring.
I bought that tool from freedomracing.com. They shipped very fast and are an American supplier.
The tool part number is J-46211.

This video is right on time. I'm piecing back my wife's 2006 Murano that's been sitting in the backyard for 3 years. Same issue. I would turn the key and it would crank but would not stay started. If I tapped on the gas while cranking it. It would start and run with no problem. Now, I have to change out the rear hatch actuator or button for the hatch to open.

Just curious if changing the fuel pump fixed your issue. Word for word, your description is exactly what's happening with my 04 Murano starting this last weekend.

Whomever has a hard time getting that ring back on and has tried for a couple hours, do yourselves a favor and replace the pump instead. It appears the ring on those pumps get too stiff over time. I tried over 2 days and concluded that there's something wrong with the pump based on watching how effortlessly people have put the ring back on. So I was right. I bought one and it went right in. All the tabs lined up with each of the teeth. Just get a piece of 4 in pvc pipe to press it down and have someone hit the tabs with a brass punch.
I felt discourage that none of the people in the the comments of this video, and the others I watched, provided a feedback on how they resolved the problem. Hopefully this helps someone out there.

I had the opposite experience. My new fuel pump o-ring would not work - too tight. I had to use my old o-ring.

@@JoesCarSmartsNYI actually was talking about buying another fuel pump not another ring. But in your case I would think that the after market rings won't fit as well as oem. Oem aren't that expensive I believe.

To bleed off the fuel line pressure you could unplug that fuel pump wire connector and turn over the engine for 10 or 15 secs. Easier than finding the fuel pump fuse and removing it.

So did this solve your starting problem? Was it a lazy fuel pump, or a clogged filter? Thanks for the video. I've been trying to get my pump out without the tool, so I'll try to buy it but I'm in Canada and it may not be so easy to get here.

Would you be able to confirm what the diameter or size of that tool is? There are some universal ring tools out there but I dont see any for Murano though it did list Fronter/Sentra/Pathfinder. I'm wondering whether the trucks/sedans have a different fuel pump?

@@JoesCarSmartsNY I ended up getting one of the universal ones and worked out well but I ran into a problem where the replacement fuel pump's sensor connector does not fit with the OEM pigtail harness. It's a Delphi brand (actually same model as the one you have on your video) too. My Murano is a 2009 so not sure if Nissan in their infinite wisdom decided to change the harness.

Just a shot in the dark, but if it hums (primes) you're getting power to the pump so the fuse is ok, check the fuse pump relay (fuse box on pass side engine area). I've also heard if motor oil is very low, the car won't run to protect itself. Worth a shot..
