Hello Ahkima, I think it's wonderful that you are sharing your growing and weaving with us. I wish I had found these videos earlier. I was just in Arizona, I stopped at the Hopi Nation Cultural Center, and got a room for the night. When I ask the lady at the desk what there was to see, she directed us to Bacavi for a ceremonial dance that was going on! We drove there and it was really crowded. That was Sat the 19th of May. We squeezed in and got to watch about 15 minutes of dancing. the costumes were wonderful and I really enjoyed seeing it. You may have even been there, would have liked to meet you. I just planted Hopi Blue corn, will see how it does. I'm in Tulsa Ok. Gets pretty hot and dry here in the summer. Keep the videos coming.
i just got to minute 3:50 . that is So beautiful, the shawl... thank you for sharing the knowledge of what the symbols mean. the hopi culture is the one i feel most drawn to, i can like see that scarf when i close my eyes,, :)
How is the drought affecting Hopi land? I've watched your videos recently and see he is planting and his corn is growing but I'm seeing documentaries showing how (at least on the Navajo reservation) the severe water shortage there. People have to make hour drives frequently to get water and there is a woman who deliveres a tankard of water to the people there but they can only get so much of it at a time. They have difficulty with washing clothes, bathing and toileting b/c of this. Also, Nestle is monetizing water all over the world and causing water shortages. There is also arsenic in their water from bedrock.
Thxs for the comment. With the way the Hopi plant their crops. Water from rain is not the issue. The Hopi need Snowy winters to add moisture the sand. The Hopi rez is no more than a beach of sand.
@@fightthedead-twdfeartheliv2241 It snows sideways unfortunately, in the Winter. Their is lots of water and coal under the Hopi rez. Most villages have running water, except Traditional Villages such as Old Oraibi and Old Hotevilla. They have no underground utilities.
do not you think it was kind of rude to say that most people would think women should do the weaving...and that the Navajo women were weavers? i know that you are trying to educate people with these videos, but Ahkima had already said that Hopi men were the weavers. To mention a reference to their historic enemies doing things an opposite way seems...weird. Hopi women weave baskets. Hopi men do fabrics.
