Amazing artist/ weaver… beautiful work !! I’m in awe !! Thank you Grandmother … for keeping this tradition alive,& showing us your creative process !💕🙏🏼🌻🦋🌸🌲✨🪶💕I am Abenaki from the North East… & have always wanted to try this type of weaving …
Oh my goodness. I would love to sit and watch the whole process. I would love to learn how to do this. I need sheep to spin wool and a loom to weave. Such beautiful work!
Your weaving is beautiful. I have been crocheting 38 + years. It is very soothing to my mind, body, and spirit. I pray over each project that it be a blessing to the receiver. I am Loyal Shawnee, Wyndotte, Seneca-Cayuga and Chippewa.
This is a great video showing the sheep, shearing, carding, spinning, warping, loom set up and ultimately weaving. I'm learning and it's definitely a long process. I'm only weaving a 13.5 inch by 14 inch rug and it's taking me a few days of solid weaving. This awesome.
I fell asleep watching this...twice; so peaceful and relaxing, like laying on the floor taking a nap next to your grandma while she works. I'll have to try to stay awake all the way through the third time!
We loved to stay with grandma. It was comforting. She would weave. We kids would lay on sheep skins next to her. The pounding of her tools was comforting. We would help bottle feed lambs and goats.
Love your beautiful work. Also your dog. You are so relaxing to watch and listen to. The flute I also love . What an enjoyable video. I could listen to the flute all night and sleep like a baby. Thank you.
I enjoyed this video. I've always loved the Navajo sense of art and the weaving is a big part of it. Ms. Begay's weaving is exceptional. Thank you for sharing.
I've been in an Australian shearing shed which, even 50 years ago, was much more automated than this. Absolutely fascinating to watch and I would love to ask Marie how she plans the patterns of her weaves.
I love how simple their looms are. I want to weave but it always seems like you need to spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on a loom. 😢 But here, the artists are creating such beauty using traditional and simple tools. Love it!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful rugs. I love New Mexico and hope to retire there. You look a lot like my mother. We are Lakota, she was from the Pineridge Rez. My father was from Standing Rock.
Hi Sam! We don't think Carolyn and Elaine are related. Begay is a very common Navajo name (think Smith or Jones.) Other common surnames are Yazzie, Bennally and Bicenti. Enjoy your beautiful pieces!
The Dragqueen Storytime episodes and the sexualisation of very young children lead to me investigating how the 'education' system hypersexualised us growing up in the 70s/80s. Granted we were teenagers but nevertheless we were confronted with page 3 girls, hypersexualised Hollywood movies, pornography etc. (pedophilia was underground then). We were told all this was normal and if we didn't 'fit in' we were old fashioned or accused of being like Mary Whitehouse. Maybe the previous generations were victimised in a similar way and sexualisation has been a way to manipulate society.
Mostly likey it was bought by the gallery for pennyon a dollar and sold 100% markup! Its is sad to see the hard work that go into the making of these unique and authentic pieces and the artist are being ripped off!! I don't see a CHANEL OR GIVENCHEY COUTURE PIECE going for less that $30,000.00! Something is wrong with the artist being underpaid and Something needs to be done!
You are so talented. I hope you’re passing on your talent so that the legacy can continue. Much love 💜

So awesome that you are learning!! I really wish I could, but I don’t know where to start!
Absolutely stunning and intricate design and artistry. Thank you for sharing. The flute was a perfect accompaniment to the video.
watching such skillful old lady weaving reminds me my grandmother . This is what we need to learn from them before passing away
And nobody's in a hurry... What a relief 💙💜💙
