Hey Peter, been following for a few months now since when I started looking at gear. A big thanks to you, your videos helped me get up to speed in sports videography and now I have my own freelance business (after 2 months of shooting)! I quickly realized that this is what I should be doing because it’s been the most fun job EVER. The dream is to work for a major league team or the UFC, and now I truly believe that with hard work I can achieve that. Much appreciated Peter, expressing your passion on UA-cam has allowed me to find the same passion. Honestly so thankful for guys like you who aren’t afraid to give away some secrets to better the sports videography community as a whole. Keep killing it man 🤙🏼
That’s incredible to hear! I’m so glad that things are going well for you and ofc love hearing that sharing what I do here has helped you. Keep on doing your thing 👊
I’ve got a couple colour grading breakdown videos on the channel but if you think it’d be helpful then I could definitely look into showing the adjustments I made for these clips as well! If it helps the base for all of them is the Slog3 luts from the Sports Video LUT Pack on my website and I make some environment-specific adjustment from there
Great video Peter 💪🏻 i filmed last saturday a test game of my Basketball club in their training center with my FX6 handheld 😂 i uplooaded one day later the short clip 🎥 thanks always for your inspiring videos 🙏 i am 56 years old and from germany
Thank you! Pretty proud of this thumbnail ngl. Usually zooming in when I can predictably follow the action and like to zoom out more as fast action comes towards me so that it can be viewed more clearly, but obvious that’s a general rule of thumb and can vary depending on what my goal is for that shoot
Great content as always and your delivery and cadence is also fantastic! I don't suppose the CFL will be sending you out to the 'Peg for the Banjo Bowl next weekend?
Great video as always! You mention sending a clip to social media during the game. Would you mind sharing your process for doing that? Is there a special way you mark the clip so that you can find it quickly? How do you then transfer that clip to your phone (or computer) for posting?
Closest thing on the channel might be this? My Camera Gear & Settings for CINEMATIC Football Videography (Sony FX30 / FX3) ua-cam.com/video/NDoABsByOxk/v-deo.html I also have a video where I go over my memory recall presets for my A7IV which could be helpful. Basic settings as you know are included on each shot here but a detailed video could be helpful so gonna have to add it to the list.
When you are behind the rim you said you shoot wide ! How wide ? I see the lens you are using is the 35-150mm ! So you are shooting at 35mm full frame FOV when under the basket or do you shoot even wider than that with a different lens ?
Generally short clips but if I have someone recording external audio that I have to sync with in post then I’ll record one long clip to make that easier
@@petersarellas thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it. Always struggle with if I should be trying to film everything or only try to get certain shots.
I notice some of the shots not following the double the frame rate with the shutter speed. Example, you shot 4K 60, 1/200. Where if it was double the frame rate it would have been around 1/120 or 1/125 depending on the camera you’re using. Is there any specific reason for shooting 4K60 at 1/200 shutter?
I talk about that Tamron 35-150mm with the fx30 in detail in this video: Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8 | the BEST LENS for filming sports videos? ua-cam.com/video/WQtG1bRbwqI/v-deo.html Hopefully that can help you out a bit!
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much for the donation! Appreciate you watching the videos and your support!

Thanks always looking for your videos for inspiration and I am not a Sony user. Keep them coming!!!!
Appreciate you watching and will do!
You share with the community so many video tips. You are the GOAT. FoR REAL - appreciate you.
Always happy to help and appreciate you always supporting the channel!
Once I started learning about composition, I felt my work take a huge step in quality.
For sure! Composition is huge
Super helpful video, especially adding the settings you used for each clip! A color grading breakdown video would also be super helpful

This is the exact video I've been needing lately
Love it 🙌
fire video as always and glad to hear that you also, is anoyed by referee passing in front of you all the time during the game :D
It’s a universal problem among camera men/women lol
Peter Sarellas, cool video it was really good
Thank you!
Im gonna be second row in MN all season long for Anthony Edwards, gonna shoot with the fx3. Wish me luck!
That’s sick!!
Great video and thumbnail! Would also love to know more about how you are deciding to manually zoom in/out while you are shooting!

Awesome Peter, as always !! I've taken notes and can't wait to test all of that !
More videos like this would be gold 🙏
Thanks a lot Peter
Amazing, glad you liked the video! I can definitely do more videos like this for future projects!
Peter Sarellas, wanna collab keep up the amazing content
Great video again!
Thank you!

Thank you! Really glad you enjoy these videos. Unfortunately I will not be there
Great video!
Thanks Penny 🙌

Thank you!
Good one peter!! Quick question for the Sony A7siii or FX3 for handheld, which will you pick?
Thank you! And honestly both great options don’t think you can generally go wrong with either
Quick question Pete, what does shooting at 24fps at 180 shutter accomplish? TIA
Hey peter. Do you have a video of your camera settings for basketball filming?
Closest thing on the channel might be this?

I was filming wide with the 17-70mm at 17mm on the FX30 so a 25-26mm full frame equivalent, but the 35mm on full frame is wide enough as well
So the most important take away here is always buy weather sealed gear. Even for indoor work. You never know when water bottles are going to fly. 😅🤣😂
Yes apparently that’s the point of this video 😂
Hey Peter, curious what video codec you shoot in on the fx3?
XAVC S
24fps timeline even for instagram? What % do you slow down the footage?
Yes, and 40%
Do you just take short clips or are you filming larger portions of the game and taking out highlights?
Generally short clips but if I have someone recording external audio that I have to sync with in post then I’ll record one long clip to make that easier

I like less motion blur that standard when filming sports to make the action look more intense
@@petersarellas thanks for the feedback, appreciate it.
You shot at 2.8 aperture and had no problem w/ autofocus?
Hi, which profile do you record in?
Slog3
60fps on what frame rate timeline?
24fps timeline
@@petersarellas thanks Pete
i have the canon m50 rn but im gonna upgrade to the fx30 and the tamron 35-150. what you think?
