I just seen this movie and it was beautiful, I loved it , the actor who played Leo was excellent , you can feel his pain his burden and his responsibilities to all the adults, I’m going to watch it over and over again plus I’m gonna watch the original one from the 70s just love the story
Losey's original with Pinter's script is the best. Finally got it on DVD - Region 2 (won't play on N.Am. players) and finally figured out how to permit my computer to play it. Still as moving as when I saw it in 1971. Brilliant.
The original with the incredible Christie/Bates performances and the haunting music score was in a league of its own. I do concede that in this version the casting better reflects the ages of Ted and Marian in 1900. Bates and Christie were 36 and 30 instead of 26 and 22 and don’t look like the VERY young lovers that the second pair do.
I enjoyed this version, but it failed to capture the essence of the book. There is an ominousness sewn into the fabric of the novel from the start, symbolised by the belladonna, and the famous opening line, that is missing from this version.
Remakes of classics never work for me. The question I ask is why? If something is great, respect and appreciate it. We don't "remake" Rembrandts and Van Goghs. @@sarahholland2600

It's a wonderful story...so poignant. The book is very good, too.

Not seen the remake...But the original is wondrously good.

Not a patch on the original. Remakes don't always work.
You are so right. The original is on UK TV as I speak, weirdly . Off now for a glorious 2hours watching it.

Remakes seldom work.
Remakes of classic movies are tricky-I don’t see an improvement on the original by Losey
Agree. The original is a cult classic among film buffs.
In the USA it's saying unable to watch in your location, on all my apps wtf.
Use a vpn and set your location to UK 😎
