1996: Needs more cowbell, Terri. This lovely Canadian joined in with a bunch of young women singers in the 80's and 90's to break up the boys' club, at least for awhile. The song's a classic; written by the late Warren Zevon and first made famous by Linda Ronstadt in 1978's "FM".
This woman is such a sweetheart...years ago when I was younger ran into her at a bar in Dearborn ,mi. ...she and I hit it off and I can tell u she is the most down to earth person I have ever met...loved her spirit and her genuine heart ......what a beautiful person and I was lucky to have met her. Some stars let it go to their heads not her she was so nice...I will never forget that night.
She lampshaded this on Saturday (Nov 11, 2023, performance in Calgary’s Jubilee Auditorium), saying she “probably would have more hits if it weren’t for”… and then she proceeded to do a spot on impression of Shania Twain singing “Any Man of Mine”
@Terri Clark if it is really you I would love to chat. I miss 90s country so very much. I am 38 now and still handsome as ever LOL but you were a huge crush of mine back in 1996 because it was rumored that you chew tobacco. :)

Yep, Terri remembered doing an interview for Billboard magazine and told it about hearing Linda's version of the song at a local gym she was exercising at, and thought "What a cool song! What a great country record that could make! I started doing it live, and it worked."
There is a lot that I like here... Great song and voice, lots of energy, fun, smiles, classic cars and yeah some handsome men that are chasing the gorgeous Terri!
The moment you realize that Terri’s version was a cover of the late great Warren Zevons original. Warren was a master of his craft and Terri did an outstanding job with this cover
I've listened to Terri on and off over the years (used to have an album of hers) and I must say, this is an excellent cover. I think Ms. Ronstadt would be pleased.
I remember as a teenager I’d put this tape in the deck in the car as my dad is driving. My dad never particularly cared for country but I remember him laughing after he listened to the words of this song 😂 Not easy to get dado to laugh. He loved the chorus “Poor poor pitiful me…. Whoa whoa is me”…. 😂
If you think about with all the things that came to light with the media industry these lyrics make ALOT more sense. God knows what this women had to do it. "I meet a man in Hollywood and ant naming names and he worked me over really good"
"covered linda better", what? This wasn't even written by Linda. This was done by the late and great warren zevon and it was covered twice by two female country singers.
Me too.. My older sister would play Terri clark over and over when all music was on CD. Of course I didn't mind. Still go bk to those songs Terri Clark made. That was when Country music was cowboy hats, blue jeans and boots... 👢🐎🐎🍺🎤🎤🎸🎼🎼🎼🎵🎵🎵

@ dronacharya67 Warren Zevon wrote it. He had some great humorous songs "Lawyers, Guns & Money", and "Werewolves Of London". Produced by Jackson Browne, & Lindsey Buckingham on backup vocals, in his recording of it. This song was abt him even being a loser at attempted suicide, & being in an abusive relationship, & a brush w/ S&M. Then Linda R, and 10 yrs later, Terri. I like Terri's version best.

I'm a lost boy of Sudan and I never had a childhood. We left home around December, 1987 and we trekked from Bor, Sudan(by then) but South Sudan now) to Pinyodou, Ethiopia. Surviving only by peanut butter and dried corn and our brothers died on the way. Life, the reason to keep on going....
Fantastic - this was originally a somewhat difficult song to appreciate, because the words were surely designed to reflect how the female subject was badly treated by men. However with this video Terri comes out a winner by simply putting up with the men and then driving off only after SHE has chosen the man she wants! Well done Terri - now the song is not just a great tune but it turns out well.
@Robert Green Actually, the song was written by a man, Warren Zevon in the 70s ("Lawyers, Guns & Money", and "Werewolves Of London"), who did a lot of "tongue in cheek" songs. It's abt being depressed, & wanting to kill himself (railroad tracks), but even failing at that. Then he refers to an abusive relationship, & an S & M experience. The lyrics were cleaned up for Linda Rondstat's version, & 10 yrs later, for Terri's. Of the 3, I like Terri's best 😄

Thank you Warren for this classic. RIP Genius!
Growing up in the 90s listening to country, Terri Clark, Randy Travis, George Strait and Brooks and Dunn were my favorite singers. Country music just isnt the same
Thanks God for UA-cam and internet radio stations where it is possible to listen to country music from the 90's.
200% agree!
I feel the same
I want it to go back how it sounded then
Yes the best music ever. Even my mom agreed with me on that she said it was the best decade for country music.
That moment when you grew up listening to Terri Clark and realize that you're now almost as old as she was in this video...

Clark, Tillis & Bogus all singing together is real country - such a great concert!!!
Not country actually. Written by Warren Zevin who sings Werewolves of London.
Yeah, I bet that was an excellent concert!!!

You know who wrote the song first right? It was Warren Zevon
Hello 👋
It’s a Warren Zevon song, not a country song
Heard this over the weekend at a restaurant while out of town & now I don't wanna stop listening
Love love love this song! Terri Clark is amazing!
Haven't heard this song in years.....still can sing it word for word
Great women deserve praise. Asante dadaTerry Clark. The problem with us humans is that we never seem to learn....
Country during these times, awesome. She was awesome!
totally agree. most new country aka pop stars now a days have nothing on terri clark and reba mcintire.

This is a cover song she's no Warren Zevon.
But is she Linda Ronstadt? That's who really covered his song. What an angel. ;)

SHIT, I'm 5 again. I want to thank my mom and dad for having such a great taste in music. They taught me to listen to this as a kid. :')
So excited to see her this summer at the local fair!
At that time, No internet, no smart phones, I used to listen on radio and used to write it's lyrics to sing later
What a golden days.❤❤❤
Only older relatives around to tell you the song was a remake: Warren Zevon (writer 1976), Linda Ronstadt (1978).
So true. Waiting for the hits to play again so you can get the lyrics you missed!
@@johnconway9882 Exactly
Worked with Terri in the 90's she loved what she does and did it so well...look at the videos , they were also great. 90s were the best.
Great cover of Warren Zevon's song. Terri Clark is the "Bomb".
Not to mention Linda Ronstadt version
Such a beautiful lady and a great singer I love Terry Clark
Why she wasn't a bigger star is beyond me.
Who knows for someone from Canada she can hold her own in Nashville
I know right! I say the same thing about Lisa Brokop!! The market was flooded in the 90's for country though! Lots of talent and good songs!!!

I saw her on tour with George Strait, was one hell of a concert
Because she stayed true to country music

I couldn't agree more. I grew up with the same beautiful voices. Moralistic lyrics. I appreciate all of the oldies.

Not exactly a moralistic song. At least not the way Warren Zevon wrote it!

Hello Sharon
How are you doing today?
Nobody (NOBODY!) can touch Linda Ronstadt's cover. She could (until the 21st century) have sung the phone book, and it would have sounded amazing.
why can't they write songs like this anymore?
Matthew Stafford they did 40 + years ago Warren Jack ass
Because the writer is dead. And with him went his amazing talent
Because Warren Zevon is dead.
Even shania Twain her music was epic now it’s shit same with Cher and I mean I love Cher but her music is terrible
Leland Brown sure
To see this song preformed live in Folsom California was even better than the music video.
Great songs can be re-interpreted and still work, even with some overlooked areas (whether they're actual flaws or hidden hints - as Joan Jett often incorporates). Kudos to the late great Warren Zevon and everyone who has covered this tune in their own unique way.
