KK Downing and Glenn Tipton are, in my opinion, two of the best guitarists in the world for their genre. I've been a Priest fan since 1979 they are my favorite band of all time.
@@stefanheintzelmann5744 Right on brotha, British Steel is one of the best, yeah after listenin' to it several times it does sound more simplified musically, a few of the songs have a real thunderous sound to 'em, but it does sound a little more tame than HBFL/SFV.
One of my favorite guitarists. He seems like a great guy too. Hard to imagine that such a soft spoken guy would create such brutally powerful and epic solos like on "sinner", "devils child", "bloodstone" etc.
Probably 'cause he's a really sweet guy who had a really unstable, chaotic childhood, and those solos are depictions of the lack of stability in his life at the time, kinda like his hero Hendrix, same story.
I can't believe this is now over 21 years old. I saw it first time around when it was streamed from their website whilst they were recording Demolition. It still feels new to me. These were so cool and entertaining to watch and both Glenn and K.K. seemed so approachable and down to Earth.
KK Downing was and will always be the best priest guitarist I portrayed myself after KK Downing most of my guitars are flying V guitars KK Downing with his new band is absolutely killer priest is still good but not as good as KK priest KK Downing you have nothing to be ashamed of you were the best they had and they will never remember that stay strong my brother love from Illinois
Its fascinating to see how a person's personality reflects from their music.Glenn is more serious and down to earth and his solos are more emotional and melodic, and downing, a more cheerful and crazier guy has the crazy solos.Just a cool thing ive noticed
And yet the solo on Before the Dawn was one of K.K.'s, not Glenn's, Glenn might come off as more serious but I think he's got a humorous side to him deep down.
When you think about it, the songwriting trio (Halford Tipton Downing) have personalities and skills that really complement each other. I can see why they worked so well together.
kk is one of my heroes. i am one of those people who actually loves the rocka rolla album. i love the heavy blues riffs on the record, the majority of which he wrote. have a great retirement, kk. maybe i'll see you on the greens.
Well its not like they didn't do heavy Blues riffs after Rock a Rolla, shit Victim of Changes is LADEN with 'em, I mean pretty much every great metal riff Priest did durin' the 70's were Blues riffs.
Rocka Rolla has always been in my top 3 all-time fave Priest albums. Both it and Sad Wings are made up of surplus songs from their club years, and there's a lot of depth and originality to that material.
I bought my first Priest CASSETTE in 1982. And I've always loved Ken's playing. He's the original Priest guitarist and plays with a soulful sound like no other. GT gets all the attention, but if you really go back through all JP have done, Mr. Downing is responsible for the great majority of the really moving bits. Those hooks that just sign and put goose bumps on your arms. And solo's that have heart rather than just stuffing the most notes into a bar. King of the Whammy bar - I hail KK.
Glenn and KK 2 of the best metal players ever in the same band just sick guitar by both guys. I had the pleasure of seeing them live many many times going back to the 70's
"and uuuhh.. well here it is" I always find this funny. KK is such a charismatic guy. Watching all these videos about him makes me feel sad he left priest.
I agree, but he probably would've been much sadder had he stayed, I mean the management was bein' a bunch of jerks, he wasn't really allowed to be an integral part of the creative process, and I don't know Glenn that well, but I think he might've been becomin' more controllin', that's what I've heard, I mean I could definitely see the management bein' a bunch of shitbags, I mean guys like us know its commonplace in the music industry, as for Glenn, I mean I love the guy, there really is no Priest without Tipton or Downing, but yeah I've heard about K.K. and Glenn's tension which is fine, but I think he was becomin' alot more controllin, I mean it ain't his fault, the poor guy contracted damn Parkinson's for cryin out loud and I think he was angry at him losin' control of his faculties, I feel sorry for the guy, so I think it was probably for the best K.K. left.
I love KK. He's a true metal God! And he looks so cool for a metal guy of his age. Nothing but respect do I have for him. He never became conceited. Always down- to- earth-personality. He's a teenager metal-head at heart! He's a true inspiration to me. And there is no Judas Priest without him and Tipton. Period! You can have Priest without Halford.....but you cant have Priest without KK and Glenn. Nobody will ever change my mind on that. Dont even try!
This is too great to watch KK showing off his guitars. Everyone go watch the Victim of Changes video right now. KK and Glenn and Rob are super awesome.
I'll stack KK and Glenn against any guitar team in rock. Seen Priest multiple times. I drool listening to them play together. I remember seeing them in 1980 at Busch stadium St Louis. KK played with his axe above his head and half bent backwards. Such great stage presence. Both are super musicians. Copying them is almost impossible. Awesome to say the least.
He could have conserts in his office. I could pay 500 dollars just to see him fiddle with his axes for two hours... I would just sip coffee and feel complete inside 🤘☁️
Such a humble man. Funny he has a Kerry King model ESP while Kerry grew up on listening to Judas Priest. He must be proud :) Same thing for Kirk Hammett. K K mentions that Kirk plays that acoustic guitar, while I think Kirk should be happy that K K plays the same guitar.
Love the t-shirt K.K.'s wearin', I mean I'm a real Military dog myself and classic Heavy Metal is pretty much a Rock version of a Military arsenal of FIREPOWER, and I love Military firepower, and early Priest is kinda the Rock equivalent of an 80's Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Norris film.
Any guitar can sing when glen or KK is the axeman playing it, the best guitar duo ever, EVER"", to this day the solos on the painkiller album are the best i have heard, thats been my favorite album since i first got it in like 92 or 93 for my 11th birthday, i was born dec 2 1981, glen and kk are to metal guitars what Michael Jordan was to basketball, they are gods, and my heros, im a huge dean guitar fan, i wonder what kk thinks about dean guitars??
I wonder if he ever used that white Hamer with the 36 fret fingerboard on any of the records. I remember seeing a similar guitar in a Hamer ad back in the late 80's, so I assume they must have made at least a few of those, and they probably sent one to KK and probably one to Glenn as well, since they were endorsing and playing Hamer guitars regularly at the time.
You sir are a true master in any way , baddest guitar player of all time. in my mind a real class act. also Michael schenker didn't deserve the flying V. It chose you. 😎
Priest isn't Priest w/o this guy. His solo's have mesmerized me since I was in junior high ( late 70's). Halford and Downing are the masters that gave Priest the edge over everyone, except Maiden.
Of course, buddy. But take care the fact Downing left and he didn't want to come back a couple of years ago, he even criticized the fact they didn't call up him to replace Tipton on 2018. Now he formed a new group and now he's writing music which I think it will be good for him and Priest, I wish some day he end up in Judas once again, I think it will happen.
@newjerseyfan101 kiddin', right? KK's an amazing guitarist, Jimi's a legend. And you can't compare them. They're from different eras of music, from different genres. Halford has some rather unique skills that would not occur to the axe duo...
K.K Seems like the most friendliest bloke around.
Yeah, great guy.
They invented the dueling guitar solos for heavy metal and now you have Maiden, Helloween and all those bands following its invention... THEY'RE GODS

The Yin to GTs Yang no doubt. Just listen to the solo on Starbreaker from Sin After Sin then check out same on Epitaph DVD. No comparison.

Victim of Changes.

one of there guitars is a present from kerry king

7:33 what this song is ?
It's the solo from Dreamer Deceiver I believe.

i believe it was "before the dawn"?
